  • Temporary

    Temporary by Sarina Bowen

Temporary by Sarina Bowen and Sarah Mayberry is 99c! I mentioned this one on a previous Hide Your Wallet because I’ve enjoyed both authors previously. I know many of you have too. Have you read this one? What did you think?

The most beautiful man I’ve ever seen is the same one who can ruin everything.

The first time I lay eyes on Callan Walker, I know he’ll be trouble. With his smug grin, hot Aussie accent and thousand dollar shoes, he’s just the kind of rich guy who always gets what he wants.

And he wants two things: a night of sin, and my cooperation as he outmaneuvers his powerful mother to take control of his uncle’s estate.

I can’t afford either one. I’m the only thing standing between my little sister and the foster care system. He may have money and charm on his side, but I have something even more powerful — pure desperation. This temp job at his mother’s company can become a full time job for me. It has to.

But when Callan’s eyes rake over my body, sometimes I forget my obligations. His piercing gaze finds the fun, optimistic girl I used to be and not the tired person I’ve become.

And it works–if only for a moment. Our night together was a mistake. I can’t afford to get sucked into his high-powered family’s treachery. But the closer I get to Callan, the more layers I find beneath those expensive clothes. Though I can’t forget this is temporary. He’s temporary. I have too much to lose.

Too bad my foolish heart didn’t get the memo…

  • This Is Just My Face

This Is Just My Face by Gabourey Sidibe

RECOMMENDED: This is Just My Face by Gabourey Sidibe is $2.99! Redheadedgirl enjoyed this one and gave it an A:

This is a really interesting memoir by someone who I didn’t know much about. She’s got a complicated life story, and a great attitude as she sashays her way through her life. She’s funny, and touching. And, as ever, the inner lives of Black women are still not something that receives nearly enough attention.

The Oscar-nominated Precious star and Empire actress delivers a much-awaited memoir—wise, complex, smart, funny—a version of the American experience different from anything we’ve read

Gabourey Sidibe—“Gabby” to her legion of fans—skyrocketed to international fame in 2009 when she played the leading role in Lee Daniels’s acclaimed movie Precious. In This is Just My Face, she shares a one-of-a-kind life story in a voice as fresh and challenging as many of the unique characters she’s played onscreen. With full-throttle honesty, Sidibe paints her Bed-Stuy/Harlem family life with a polygamous father and a gifted mother who supports her two children by singing in the subway. Sidibe tells the engrossing, inspiring story of her first job as a phone sex “talker.” And she shares her unconventional (of course!) rise to fame as a movie star, alongside “a superstar cast of rich people who lived in mansions and had their own private islands and amazing careers while I lived in my mom’s apartment.”

Sidibe’s memoir hits hard with self-knowing dispatches on friendship, depression, celebrity, haters, fashion, race, and weight (“If I could just get the world to see me the way I see myself,” she writes, “would my body still be a thing you walked away thinking about?”). Irreverent, hilarious, and untraditional, This Is Just My Face takes its place and fills a void on the shelf of writers from Mindy Kaling to David Sedaris to Lena Dunham.

  • Attracting Aubrey

    Attracting Aubrey by Avery Flynn

Attracting Aubrey by Avery Flynn is 99c at most vendors and free at Kobo! This is part of a contemporary romance series, where each installment is written by a different author. The hero is a major celebrity trying to lay low on a cruise ship.

I never dreamed I’d meet my celebrity crush while stealing every single pair of my best friend’s pants.

Trust me, my life is not that wild. In fact, the most excitement I usually get is running my fan-favorite Insta thirst account featuring butt-tastic pics of Hollywood superhero Carter Hayes. So, imagine my shock when, in the middle of the cruise ship hallway, I realize the guy whose shirt I’m stuffing slacks inside of is Carter disguised as a tourist. How I manage not to faint dead away, I’ve got no clue.

When word leaks that Carter might be on board, he asks me to help him maintain his cover. There’s no way I’m gonna say no to that. I just don’t share that I’m the anonymous woman behind the fan account that reported sighting him onboard. No biggie. Right?

However, when things between us go from friendly to hot to OMG-I-can’t-keep-my-clothes-on-around-him, all I can do is hope he never discovers my secret. You see, somewhere along the way, Carter went from an untouchable movie star to the man I’m falling for.

  • Magical Midlife Madness

Magical Midlife Madness by K.F. Breene

Magical Midlife Madness by K.F. Breene is $2.99 at Amazon! This is described as paranormal women’s fiction and I’ve been noticing more and more of these sorts of books popping up. Have you read any of them?

A woman starting over. A new house with an unexpected twist. A cape wearing butler acting as the world’s worst life coach.

“Happily Ever After” wasn’t supposed to come with a do-over option. But when my husband of twenty years packs up and heads for greener pastures and my son leaves for college, that’s exactly what my life becomes.

    Do-over.

This time, though, I plan to do things differently. Age is just a number, after all, and at forty I’m ready to carve my own path.

Eager for a fresh start, I make a somewhat unorthodox decision and move to a tiny town in the Sierra foothills. I’ll be taking care of a centuries old house that called to me when I was a kid. It’s just temporary, I tell myself. It’ll just be for a while.

That is, until I learn what the house really is, something I never could’ve imagined.

Thankfully forty isn’t too old to start an adventure, because that’s exactly what I do. A very dangerous adventure that will change my life forever. I have a chance to start again, and this time, I make the rules.

Temporary was a steamy romance with clever dialogue and characters with depth and heart. Wonderful collaboration by two of my favourite authors. Loved it!

  3. Layla says:

K.C. Bateman’s espionage historical romance To Steal A Heart is currently free! So is Nana Malone’s billionaire romance Sexy in Stilettos!

Yes. I devoured the Midlife Bounty Hunter series by Shannon Mayer. The Darynda Jones series starting with Bewitched is also good. I tried another that I didn’t get into. Women starting over at around 40 and inheriting a house and/or business and discovering they have magic is apparently a thing now. 25-year-olds want a billionaire boyfriend, and 40 year olds want a place of their own and magic powers? Works for me.

  5. Becky says:

I have read one series of the “paranormal women’s fiction” titles And tried the first book of a couple of others and found it frustrating which I think is partly on me for what I want in a book. Does “ women’s fiction” mean no sex? Does it mean slow burn or no burn at all. I found them a bit boring. I will try the Mayer and Jones ones before I give up on the line of books as a whole.

  6. Tracey A Kassman says:

I want a story about starting over at 62
