  • Love Lettering

    Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn

RECOMMENDED: Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn is $3.99! If you were curious, this was our most sold book this year! Aarya gave this one an A:

Love Lettering is a special book that I’ll hold close to my heart for a long time. It’s a quiet romance with quiet protagonists, but sometimes it’s the quiet moments that echo the loudest.

In this warm and witty romance from acclaimed author Kate Clayborn, one little word puts a woman’s business—and her heart—in jeopardy . . .

Meg Mackworth’s hand-lettering skill has made her famous as the Planner of Park Slope, designing custom journals for her New York City clientele. She has another skill too: reading signs that other people miss. Knowing the upcoming marriage of Reid Sutherland and his polished fiancée was doomed to fail is one thing, but weaving a secret word of warning into their wedding program is another. Meg may have thought no one would spot it, but she hadn’t counted on sharp-eyed, pattern-obsessed Reid.

A year later, Reid has tracked Meg down to find out how she knew that his meticulously planned future was about to implode. But with a looming deadline and a bad case of creative block, Meg doesn’t have time for Reid’s questions—unless he can help her find her missing inspiration. As they gradually open up to each other, both try to ignore a deepening connection between them. But the signs are there—irresistible, indisputable, urging Meg to heed the messages Reid is sending her, before it’s too late . . .

  • A Hope Divided

A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole

RECOMMENDEDA Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is book two in the Loyal League series.

Redheadedgirl gave it an A grade:

Cole’s books are always timely, and yet timeless. She has a solid grounding of how to use history in her plots, and knows exactly what story she wants to tell. I could not put this down…

The Civil War has turned neighbor against neighbor–but for one scientist spy and her philosopher soldier, war could bind them together . . .

For three years of the War Between the States, Marlie Lynch has helped the cause in peace: with coded letters about anti-Rebel uprisings in her Carolina woods, tisanes and poultices for Union prisoners, and silent aid to fleeing slave and Freeman alike. Her formerly enslaved mother’s traditions and the name of a white father she never knew have protected her–until the vicious Confederate Home Guard claims Marlie’s home for their new base of operations in the guerilla war against Southern resistors of the Rebel cause.

Unbeknowst to those under her roof, escaped prisoner Ewan McCall is sheltering in her laboratory. Seemingly a quiet philosopher, Ewan has his own history with the cruel captain of the Home Guard, and a thoughtful but unbending strength Marlie finds irresistible.

When the revelation of a stunning family secret places Marlie’s freedom on the line, she and Ewan have to run for their lives into the hostile Carolina night. Following the path of the Underground Railroad, they find themselves caught up in a vicious battle that could dash their hopes of love–and freedom–before they ever cross state lines.

  • The Lord of Stariel

The Lord of Stariel by AJ Lancaster

RECOMMENDED: The Lord of Stariel by AJ Lancaster is 99c at Amazon! It’s wild that this is making our bestsellers list this week, as Ellen’s review went up on the 20th. They gave it an A:

I adored this book and I NEEDED to tell the Bitchery about it. This is a whimsical, fun, sweet fantasy mystery with wonderful characters and a healthy dollop of romance.

The Lord of Stariel is dead. Long live the Lord of Stariel. Whoever that is.

Everyone knows who the magical estate will choose for its next ruler. Or do they?

Will it be the lord’s eldest son, who he despised?

His favourite nephew, with the strongest magical land-sense?

His scandalous daughter, who ran away from home years ago to study illusion?

Hetta knows it won’t be her, and she’s glad of it. Returning home for her father’s funeral, all Hetta has to do is survive the family drama and avoid entanglements with irritatingly attractive local men until the Choosing. Then she can leave.

But whoever Stariel chooses will have bigger problems than eccentric relatives to deal with.

    Winged, beautifully deadly problems.

For the first time in centuries, the fae are returning to the Mortal Realm, and only the Lord of Stariel can keep the estate safe.

    In theory.

The Lord of Stariel is the first book in the Stariel quartet.

  • The Vine Witch

The Vine Witch by Luanne Smith

The Vine Witch by Luanne G. Smith is $1.99 at Amazon! I’m obsessed with the moody florals of this cover. Last time we featured this one, a person mentioned in the comments that there are a lot of cats who are “exsanguinated” if that’s something you absoutely do not want. I saw one review that was disappointed the description didn’t overtly mention this was a romance novel. GOD FORBID.

A young witch emerges from a curse to find her world upended in this gripping fantasy of betrayal, vengeance, and self-discovery set in turn-of-the-century France.

For centuries, the vineyards at Château Renard have depended on the talent of their vine witches, whose spells help create the world-renowned wine of the Chanceaux Valley. Then the skill of divining harvests fell into ruin when sorcière Elena Boureanu was blindsided by a curse. Now, after breaking the spell that confined her to the shallows of a marshland and weakened her magic, Elena is struggling to return to her former life. And the vineyard she was destined to inherit is now in the possession of a handsome stranger.

Vigneron Jean-Paul Martel naively favors science over superstition, and he certainly doesn’t endorse the locals’ belief in witches. But Elena knows a hex when she sees one, and the vineyard is covered in them. To stay on and help the vines recover, she’ll have to hide her true identity, along with her plans for revenge against whoever stole seven winters of her life. And she won’t rest until she can defy the evil powers that are still a threat to herself, Jean-Paul, and the ancient vine-witch legacy in the rolling hills of the Chanceaux Valley.

  1. Lora Mathews says:

Yep. Didn’t care for Vine Witch. It could have been cool and the cover is lovely but…there are numerous murdered kitties and nothing kills a romance for me like violence against animals or having to look up the word exsanguinated. It’s a hard no from me.

  2. Emily C says:

KDD today include When No One Is Watching by Alyssa Cole and The Guest List by Lucy Foley.

  4. Escapeologist says:

I one clicked the Lord of Stariel based on Ellen’s review and finished it in a few sittings. The world pulled me in, the characters are lovely and kind to each other, the heroine is relatable and she kicks ass in a most satisfying way. A+ from me.

  5. Denise says:

Totally not related, but don’t know where to put it (unless I missed a post). Have you guys watched Bridgerton yet? If so, thoughts? I haven’t even started an episode as I’m kinda nervous about it tbh. I am so excited to see a regency romance in action, but the Duke and I would not have been my first choice & I wasn’t a fan of the book. I wish more regency novels would get adapted instead of the same Jane Austen over & over again. (Altho, I do love them too!)

  6. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

Love Lettering: I LOVED IT, for whatever my opinion is worth. I just loved it.

  7. sparetimereader says:

@Denise, no but I’m also very curious! Had I not read the book, I would have been first in line to watch the show, but apparently I bought and read the book five years ago but had to read several detailed reviews to bring back the vaguest memories of it, so that’s not making me too excited. Although apparently I liked the book enough at the time I read it to buy three more unmemorable books in the series. Can’t wait to hear what everyone thinks.

  8. Susan/DC says:

Loved, loved, loved the Kate Clayborn in large part due to Reid, the hero. He is a quant, able to focus his rather fearsome intelligence on numbers and patterns, and when he decides to focus on Meg it is heart meltingly romantic. The book is also a love letter of sorts to New York, as Meg and Reid wander the city. She points out signs and sites that call to her, and he learns to see the city through her eyes and as more than just tall buildings and traffic. Highly recommended.

  9. Gwen says:

@Denise and @sparetimereader I just watched the first four episodes of Bridgerton and it’s very entertaining. Excellent scheming by the women in Episode 3! High drama in Episode 4! The Duke is an emotional idiot of course. Idiot about emotions. Something. He’s very handsome though. Lady Danbury is awesome. (I have only vague memories of the books, and that probably works in my favor.)

  10. MGW says:

@Gwen: Is all of Bridgerton just the Duke and I? For some reason I was thinking each episode would be a different book!

  11. Gwen says:

@MGW mostly the duke and Daphnes yes, I think, but other family members and their romances are in side stories. Don’t know yet if any of those will be resolved by the end of Episode 8. This is so much fun, and I would love it to keep going with more series for more siblings.
