  • Take a Hint, Dani Brown

Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert

RECOMMENDED: Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert is still $2.99! Maya squeed about this one and I agree with her assessment:

So I loved Take a Hint, Dani Brown. How much? I joined the Bad Decisions Book Club on the reread. Which started right after I had finished it the first time. Yes. I knew exactly where the book was going to go and I could not put it down. Honestly, I’m reading it a third time.

Talia Hibbert returns with another charming romantic comedy about a young woman who agrees to fake date her friend after a video of him “rescuing” her from their office building goes viral…

Danika Brown knows what she wants: professional success, academic renown, and an occasional roll in the hay to relieve all that career-driven tension. But romance? Been there, done that, burned the T-shirt. Romantic partners, whatever their gender, are a distraction at best and a drain at worst. So Dani asks the universe for the perfect friend-with-benefits—someone who knows the score and knows their way around the bedroom.

When brooding security guard Zafir Ansari rescues Dani from a workplace fire drill gone wrong, it’s an obvious sign: PhD student Dani and ex-rugby player Zaf are destined to sleep together. But before she can explain that fact, a video of the heroic rescue goes viral. Now half the internet is shipping #DrRugbae—and Zaf is begging Dani to play along. Turns out, his sports charity for kids could really use the publicity. Lying to help children? Who on earth would refuse?

Dani’s plan is simple: fake a relationship in public, seduce Zaf behind the scenes. The trouble is, grumpy Zaf’s secretly a hopeless romantic—and he’s determined to corrupt Dani’s stone-cold realism. Before long, he’s tackling her fears into the dirt. But the former sports star has issues of his own, and the walls around his heart are as thick as his… um, thighs.

Suddenly, the easy lay Dani dreamed of is more complex than her thesis. Has her wish backfired? Is her focus being tested? Or is the universe just waiting for her to take a hint?

  • The Prince of Midnight

The Prince of Midnight by Laura Kinsale

The Prince of Midnight by Laura Kinsale is 99c! This historical romance has some Beauty and the Beast elements. Readers love the angsty, broody hero, while others thought there would be more action to the story. If you’ve read this one, tell us what you thought about it in the comments! It also has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

He was once a legendary highwayman. Now he’s a recluse in a ruined French castle, with only a half-wild wolf for a companion.

When Lady Leigh Strachan comes looking for a man to aid in her revenge, she is disillusioned to find that the famed Prince of Midnight could not help even if he cared to—which he does not.

    S. T. Maitland wants nothing to do with his legend, or with this fierce, beautiful, broken woman . . . until the old thrill of living on the cutting edge of danger begins to rise in his blood again.

  • Best Laid Plans

Best Laid Plans by Lauren Blakely

Best Laid Plans by Lauren Blakely is 99c! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which features a lot of romance. This is the first book in the Lucky in Love series and has friends to lovers and the super catnippy trope of “seduction lessons.” Blakely writes a lot of romances from the hero’s POV, but this one might have both here.

That time I had the brilliant idea to ask my good friend for lessons in seduction…

Awkward? Maybe. But how else is a good girl going to find out if she likes being naughty? I might be sweet as cherry pie, but I’m also bold and damn curious. And Gabe is charming, trustworthy, aces at seduction (or so I hear) and—bonus!— willing to give me lessons. But to guarantee it won’t ruin our friendship, I have some specific requirements for his instruction. I want these classes to be hypothetical more than hands-on. So what if he’s hella sexy? I can handle that, no problem.

    ***

I have it bad for Arden. She’s bright, brilliant, insanely fun, and I want to take her home and spend all night together—and then spend the day with her, too. When she asks for my help, I see my chance to win her sweet heart by showing her how much fun we can have getting spicy. Trouble is, she has a different idea of what “bedroom exploration” should mean. Now I’m going to have to get really clever to win her over.

Good thing I know exactly how to upend her best laid plans.

  • What Happens in Scotland

What Happens in Scotland by Jennifer McQuiston

What Happens in Scotland by Jennifer McQuiston is $2.99! Elyse had a review of this one way back when and mentioned that the couple spends most of the book apart, just in case you’re the type of reader who prefers a more immediate romance.

    She woke up married.

When Lady Georgette Thorold awoke she saw . . . her corset hanging from the armoire . . . a very handsome, very naked Scotsman lying beside her . . . and a wedding ring on her finger!

Before the attractive stranger can tell her his name, Georgette does the only sensible thing—she runs for it.

Little does she know, James MacKenzie isn’t clear on what happened the night before either. All he knows is that his money is missing and the stunning woman who just ran from the room is either his wife or a thief . . . or possibly both.

What happens in Scotland when two complete strangers fall madly, deeply in love?

  1. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Skye Warren’s DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH is a 99-cent KDD today. It’s the first book in Warren’s Diamond Trilogy (GOLDMINE is the second book—it ends in a massive cliffhanger—and SILVER LINING, the third and final book is scheduled for December 15). Warren’s work can get very dark—and this is no exception, there’s abduction and some dancing-around-dub-con with more than one man. However, it’s a fast-paced romantic suspense very much of the Warren template.

  2. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

I LOVED The Prince of Midnight. I sure do miss new titles by Kinsale. I wonder why she is no longer writing.

  3. Suleikha Snyder says:

The most important thing you need to know about PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT is that there is sex on horseback in the epilogue.

    You’re welcome.

  4. hng23 says:

@Sulieka Snyder: Sometimes I wonder if these authors have ever actually been on a moving horse.

  5. WS says:

The Prince of Midnight is not my favorite of Laura Kinsale’s books, but, at 99c, I’m absolutely rebuying it for kindle in my ceaseless quest to reduce the amount of space occupied by my physical books.

I had totally forgotten the sex on a moving horse.

  6. Terrierhead says:

I have had an inner ear problem for most of my life, have poor balance and am prone to spells of vertigo. The Prince of Midnight has a hero with lost balance? Insta-click.

Off to look at Diamond in the Rough, too.

  7. lorenet says:

Moonlight on My Mind (Second Sons Series Book 3) by Jennifer McQuiston is $0.99 right now

  8. Kate says:

Prince of Midnight and What Happens in Scotland are both no longer on sale on Kobo. Which sucks, both sound fun.

  9. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Terrierhead: Jay Hogan’s OFF BALANCE also features a hero with a severe form of vertigo.

  10. Jennifer in FL says:

Mimi Matthews’ FAIR AS A STAR is .99 today at Amazon. I think this was reviewed here recently.

I’ve read that Jennifer McQuiston series and I know I enjoyed it, but dang if I can remember any of the details! The third book is one sale for .99, and I’m pretty sure you don’t really need to read them in order to be able to understand what’s going on.

  11. Ellie says:

Wait, so the hero in Prince of Midnight has some balance issues and STILL manages to have sex on horseback?!?!?!?

  12. E.L. says:

I see people have already mentioned the horseback sex in the Prince of Midnight, but what about the gynophobic pet wolf sidekick? 😛

Jokes aside, I like Prince of Midnight a lot. Not all of Kinsale’s books hold up, but a lot of them are still memorable. The plot is often weird, crazy bonkers, and her heroes and heroines are also extreme, but interesting and different. I don’t think there are any other romance authors like her.

  13. WS says:

@E.L. One of my favorite things is to summarize a Laura Kinsale book for someone. The summary always ends with, “But it makes sense when you’re reading it!”

  14. MsCellanie says:

@Jennifer in FL – I had the same thought about the McQuiston books. I remember liking them. I don’t remember any details about any of the three books in the trilogy. So a recommendation for an enjoyable, but non-remarkable story. Which is what you may need this season.

  15. Lisa F says:

Snag Dani Brown and the Kinsale if you can! The McQuistion was fun too.

  16. Mary says:

Dani Brown was one of my favorite books this year! Bought it on Kindle and on paperback.
