  • A Wicked Kind of Husband

A Wicked Kind of Husband by Mia Vincy

A Wicked Kind of Husband by Mia Vincy is 99c at Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, but at $3.99! This features a married couple who wed out of convenience living two separate lives until they are forced back into each other’s proximity. I’ve heard really good things about this book and for a time, it was recommended a lot on social media.

It was the ideal marriage of convenience…until they met

Cassandra DeWitt has seen her husband only once—on their wedding day two years earlier—and this arrangement suits her perfectly. She has no interest in the rude, badly behaved man she married only to secure her inheritance. She certainly has no interest in his ban on her going to London. Why, he’ll never even know she is there.

Until he shows up in London too, and Cassandra finds herself sharing a house with the most infuriating man in England.

Joshua DeWitt has his life exactly how he wants it. He has no need of a wife disrupting everything, especially a wife intent on reforming his behavior. He certainly has no need of a wife who is intolerably amiable, insufferably reasonable … and irresistibly kissable.

As the unlikely couple team up to battle a malicious lawsuit and launch Cassandra’s wayward sister, passion flares between them. Soon the day must come for them to part … but what if one of them wants their marriage to become real?

Hilarious, heartrending, and hot, this standalone Regency romance tells the story of a marriage of convenience between opposites.

  • Toxic Desire

    Toxic Desire by Robin Lovett

Toxic Desire by Robin Lovett is 99c! This is an erotic sci-fi romance where two enemies are stranded on a sex planet. I gave it a B-:

Look, it’s a romance set on a sex planet. It does what it says on the tin. Besides, aren’t you the slightest bit curious?

Nemona can’t believe she’s crash landed on the planet Fyrian with the brooding, golden-skinned alien who destroyed her ship and scattered her crew. She should want to kill him. But everything on Fyrian is an aphrodisiac. So she just wants to have him. Now.

Revenge. That’s all commander Oten has wanted against humans for more than a century, ever since they tried to destroy his kind. He never thought he’d end up in bed with one. But the desire the sex planet stokes for this human female is eating him alive. Keeping his hands, his mouth, and his vampiric fangs to himself proves impossible—especially when she’s begging him to touch her.

Nemona has no idea what endless sex with a Ssedez will do to her. But Oten knows all too well. They need to get off this planet. Before their coupling stirs an alien mating bond that neither of their hearts can withstand.

  • A Taste of Heaven

A Taste of Heaven by Penny Watson

A Taste of Heaven by Penny Watson is 99c! This cover is making me so hungry. This is a contemporary romance with an older hero and heroine (late 40s) and a food competition show. Readers loved the heroine and her relationship with the grumpy Scottish chef hero. However, some readers felt the action of the book happened a little too quickly. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads

    “Create one perfect bite.”

Good little widow Sophia Brown always follows the rules. When the producer of a cooking competition requests an amuse-bouche, the chefs stick with proteins. Sauces. A savory concoction. She has only one shot to impress the judges on A Taste of Heaven. But in a moment of defiance, she creates an extraordinary dessert, one that combines both the bitter and the sweet, just like her own life.

    That one bite changes everything.

After a year grieving for her dead husband, forty-seven-year-old Sophia is finally ready to break out of her shell. Unfortunately, there is a large, angry obstacle standing in her way. Scottish chef Elliott Adamson has a chip on his shoulder the size of Loch Ness, and he’s blocking her path to victory.

Spurred by her daughters, she embarks on a poignant adventure that takes her from the wildflower fields of Vermont to the wind-swept vista of North Berwick, Scotland. Fear, courage, and inspiration from unlikely places will mark this journey, and Sophia is determined to persevere until the very end.

  • 69 Million Things I Hate About You

69 Million Things I Hate About You by Kira Archer

69 Million Things I Hate About You by Kira Archer is 99c! It also looks like the next couple books in the series are available at this price. This is a contemporary workplace romance with an enemies to lovers trope. The heroine is determined to make her boss’ life miserable after winning the lottery. Some readers feel the romance wasn’t as strong as it could have been, while others loved the banter.

After personal assistant Kiersten Abbott wins sixty-nine million dollars in the lotto, she suddenly has more than enough money to quit her impossibly demanding job. But where’s the fun in that? She decides to stay and exact a little revenge on her insufferable ass of a boss.

Billionaire Cole Harrington quickly figures out something’s afoot with his usually agreeable personal assistant. When he finds out about the office pool betting on how long it’ll take him to fire her, he decides to spice things up and see how far he can push her until she quits.

The game is on, with everyone waiting to see who will crack first. But the bet sparks a new dynamic between them, and soon they realize they just might have crossed that fine line between hate and love.

  1. Ren Benton says:

Most of 60MTIHAY is ruin-his-life shenanigans for most of the book (which were fun!), and then in a very limited amount of space toward the end, they have a ton of sex, break up, and get back together. I thought it would have been a better romcom movie, where the weak emotional believability could be supplemented by attractive people/settings and an emotionally manipulative soundtrack.

  2. Sarah says:

I just reread A Wicked Kind of Husband and I definitely recommend. Very well done characters.

  3. Aarya says:

Re: the Vincy historical. I want to provide a CW under spoiler tags (it occurs in the final quarter of the book):

    Show Spoiler

on-page miscarriage by the heroine. It’s painful/difficult to read as the characters suffer so much.

  4. Laurel says:

A Taste of Heaven is really good. I highly recommend it.

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

The Robin Lovett Planet of Desire books are (as Sarah McLean would put it) “a full five bananas on the banana scale.” I would classify them as being for those who like to have a few SF tropes interspersed with their all-out interplanetary human-alien erotica. The second book, CAPTIVE DESIRE, is even more sexy-bonkers than the first! Enjoy!

  6. KellyM says:

My favorite quote today, “Look, it’s a romance set on a sex planet. It does what it says on the tin. Besides, aren’t you the slightest bit curious?”

  7. Vår says:

I really enjoyed 69 MILLION THINGS (…). I suffered through a not-so-great narrator, even. But I agree with @Ren Benton that it probably would work better as a movie. But still. Had some good laughs.

The Mia Vincy… LOVED it! I have nothing bad to say about this book.

  8. DonnaMarie says:

A Wicked Kind of Husband was pretty much THE BEST romance I read last year. I recommend it wholeheartedly, and since my copy came from the GBPL, half pay or not, I am one clicking that puppy right now.

  9. MaryK says:

I DNF’d Toxic Desire by the first sex scene. The heroine irritated the heck out of me in the opening fight scene and the sex was less “desire” than literally scratching an itch. Maybe it gets better after it stops pretending to be SFR? I might give it another try at some point.

I find I’m not reading different types of books, but I’m very harsh about writing quality and very intolerant of writing quirks. It’s hard to find books I can stand to read. :/

  10. Laurie says:

I loved A Wicked Kind of Husband. I’m anxiously awaiting book 3, which is scheduled for July. The writing is smart and I adored the adored the character. Mia Vincy did a great job of table setting in both this book and A Beastly Kind of Earl. Plus, the covers are so freaking pretty.

  11. JudyW says:

I have read two of these and liked both. A Wicked Kind of Husband is must read and well worth that price and more. I also read the 69 Billion….which was fun and fast paced and I really thought it was fun fun fun.

  12. Dreamingintrees says:

    Thank you Aarya!

  13. Suzanne Brownrigg says:

I just looked at “A Wicked Kind of Husband” on Amazon and it was $3.99, not $0.99.

  14. Amanda says:

@Suzanne: Bummer! Unfortunately, we can’t guarantee how long a sale will last, only that it’s valid at the time I put the post together. They go live at 11:30am ET, so I recommend checking the site around that time daily or subscribing to the newsletter which goes out a noon daily.

  15. Mimi says:

Just got the A Wicked Husband book 3 days ago…..was exactly what I needed. Fun Characters with snappy dialogue. Light and frothy but also with some emotional depth. The character felt like real people dealing with real issues. I wasn’t so impressed by the surrounding characters they felt a little cardboard cut-out. But it was perfect for this moment in time…..
