  • Stripped

    Stripped by Zoey Castile

Stripped by Zoey Castile is $2.99! This is the first book in the Happy Endings series. I read this one and gave it a B grade:

Stripped is an uncomplicated romance between two goofy, sexy people. It has a sweetness to it that’s reminiscent of a contemporary friends to lovers trope. If that hits all of your buttons, do read this!

Skilled, sculpted, and sexy, the men of adult entertainment are the kind of guys a woman reserves for her fantasies not her reality. But is there more to these professional hotties than meets the eye? . . .

The day Robyn Flores meets Zac Fallon is one of those days. You know, when you’re already late for work. Mostly because you haven’t really slept since your best friend abandoned you for her fiancé and her exponentially better life. The kind of day you drag yourself to the cleaners to pick up your laundry, only to discover you’ve got the wrong bag—Star Spangled sequined thong, anyone? So Robyn is definitely not ready for the ridiculously gorgeous guy at her front door, except that they have each other’s clothes. But then, is any woman ever ready to meet the love of her life?

There’s just one problem: Zac Fallon is not the love of Robyn’s life. Zac knows, despite the
all-too-intimate dinner they share, he doesn’t have a shot at her. Because the next time Zac sees Robyn, he’s front and center of the male revue headlining her best friend’s bachelorette party. So much for wooing the pretty schoolteacher, much less her impressing her old-fashioned family, with his upstanding lifestyle. Now he’s only got one way to win his dream girl. It’s gonna be the steamiest, most irresistible seduction she’s ever seen. And this time it will be no act . . .

  • Kill Without Mercy

Kill Without Mercy by Alexandra Ivy

Kill Without Mercy by Alexandra Ivy is $1.99! This is a romantic suspense and the first in the ARES Security series. Readers warn that this suspense is not for the faint of heart as it has some pretty unsettling details of war and the past actions of a serial killer. However, many loved the band of heroes introduced. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

From the hellhole of a Taliban prison to sweet freedom, five brave military heroes have made it home—and they’re ready to take on the civilian missions no one else can. Individually they’re intimidating. Together they’re invincible. They’re the men of ARES Security.

Rafe Vargas is only in Newton, Iowa, to clear out his late grandfather’s small house. As the covert ops specialist for ARES Security, he’s eager to get back to his new life in Texas. But when he crosses paths with Annie White, a haunted beauty with skeletons in her closet, he can’t just walk away—not when she’s clearly in danger…

There’s a mysterious serial killer on the loose with a link to Annie’s dark past. And the closer he gets, the deeper Rafe’s instinct to protect kicks in. But even with his considerable skill, Annie’s courage, and his ARES buddies behind him, the slaying won’t stop. Now it’s only a matter of time before Annie’s next—unless they can unravel a history of deadly lies that won’t be buried.

  • Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard

Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard by Vanessa Kelly

Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard by Vanessa Kelly is $1.99! This is the first book in the Renegade Royals series. Some readers struggled with the instantaneous lustypants between the hero and heroine while others really liked the heroine’s bravery and her strength. There’s also a fair amount of action/mystery elements in this book.

In this witty, sensual new series, Vanessa Kelly introduces the Renegade Royals, illegitimate sons of the Royal Princes who are finding their rightful places in society…

Accomplished spy Aden St. George prefers to stay away from the frivolous ton, especially after the way his mother was used by the Prince Regent. But his latest mission compels him to guard unconventional, vibrant Lady Vivien Shaw. Rescuing her from kidnappers was easy. Resisting her beauty is not. Duty demands he keep an eye on her—and naturally, his lips soon follow. For someone who views entanglements as a weakness, this is pure, delicious folly…

Though grateful for Aden’s help, Vivien has secrets she must keep hidden. Yet with her abductors still at large, she needs Aden’s protection almost as much as she craves his touch…

  • Alex, Approximately

    Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett

Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennett is $1.99 at Amazon! It may be a KDD left over from yesterday, so the price could change at any moment. This is a YA romance with movie nerdery and an enemies to lovers romance. Some readers found the heroine to be prickly and pretentious. However, others said they couldn’t stop smiling while reading this one.

In this delightfully charming teen spin on You’ve Got Mail, the one guy Bailey Rydell can’t stand is actually the boy of her dreams—she just doesn’t know it yet.

Classic movie buff Bailey “Mink” Rydell has spent months crushing on a witty film geek she only knows online by “Alex.” Two coasts separate the teens until Bailey moves in with her dad, who lives in the same California surfing town as her online crush.

Faced with doubts (what if he’s a creep in real life—or worse?), Bailey doesn’t tell Alex she’s moved to his hometown. Or that she’s landed a job at the local tourist-trap museum. Or that she’s being heckled daily by the irritatingly hot museum security guard, Porter Roth—a.k.a. her new arch-nemesis. But life is whole lot messier than the movies, especially when Bailey discovers that tricky fine line between hate, love, and whatever-it-is she’s starting to feel for Porter.

And as the summer months go by, Bailey must choose whether to cling to a dreamy online fantasy in Alex or take a risk on an imperfect reality with Porter. The choice is both simpler and more complicated than she realizes, because Porter Roth is hiding a secret of his own: Porter is Alex…Approximately.

I liked “Stripped”, & the B grade sounds about right to me. I found the subsequent books – “Hired” & “Flashed” – less interesting, probably a C or C+, although the New Orleans setting of one of them was nice. Part of it could have been the covers; I’m not a big fan of shirtless, hairless chests on cover art.

And… one-clicking the Vanessa Kelly. I’ve been in the mood for an historical, & illegitimate royal offspring plus spies sounds perfect!

  2. Laurel says:

I really enjoyed Alex, Approximately. The writing was good and the characters were engaging.

  3. Leftcoaster says:

I read Alex, Approximately last night and enjoyed it. There were a few things that weren’t my favorite, I didn’t mind suspending disbelief about how they were online friends by different names but the YA drama over it was a bit much for me at the end. It dragged out longer than I wanted to ride and I skipped ahead.

I didn’t find the heroine pretentious at all (but I’ve been accused of the same so… ). Loved the framing around consent. Did not love at all the hero saying the heroine was slut shaming him when she talks about how he’s had sex and she hadn’t. That pissed me off. It was jarring to have this stupid false equivalency dropped into a lovely, entertaining book.

Overall worth at read if the above won’t drove you too crazy!

  4. Lisa F says:

    Castille’s whole series is fabulous.

Also YA needs to stop sleeping on Jenn Bennett, their work is God-tier good.

  5. Georgina says:

I saw on Twitter that Kate Clayborn’s Love Lettering is 99p in the UK. (Kindle, I’m guessing?)

I’m currently in the middle of reading it and really enjoying it.

  6. Lace says:

Kerry Greenwood’s The Spotted Dog, the 7th Corinna Chapman book, is $0.99 right now in the US. The reviews on this one are kind of all over the place, but it’s Greenwood and 99 cents, right?

  7. Pennie says:

@Lace thank you! I’d sort of petered out on that series but it might be fun to pick up again! Never got around to reading the 6th one-grabbed the 7th and now my weekend is set 🙂

  8. Deborah says:

Puppy Love by Lucy Gilmore is currently FREE at Amazon.
