  • A Gentleman Never Keeps Score

A Gentleman Never Keeps Score by Cat Sebastian

RECOMMENDEDA Gentleman Never Keeps Score by Cat Sebastian is $1.99! Carrie read this one and enjoyed it. It was given a B+ grade:

I enjoyed this book so much! A Gentleman Never Keeps Score is a Regency m/m about a disgraced gentleman and a Black pub keeper. The book has a lovely romance as well as a theme of found family and recovery from trauma.

Once beloved by London’s fashionable elite, Hartley Sedgwick has become a recluse after a spate of salacious gossip exposed his most-private secrets. Rarely venturing from the house whose inheritance is a daily reminder of his downfall, he’s captivated by the exceedingly handsome man who seeks to rob him.

Since retiring from the boxing ring, Sam Fox has made his pub, The Bell, into a haven for those in his Free Black community. But when his best friend Kate implores him to find and destroy a scandalously revealing painting of her, he agrees. Sam would do anything to protect those he loves, even if it means stealing from a wealthy gentleman. But when he encounters Hartley, he soon finds himself wanting to steal more than just a painting from the lovely, lonely man—he wants to steal his heart.

Content Warning from Author: This book includes a main character who was sexually abused in the past; abuse happens off page but is alluded to.

  • A Lady’s First Scandal

A Lady’s First Scandal by Merry Farmer

A Lady’s First Scandal by Merry Farmer is 99c! This is the first book in the May Flowers series and features a second chance romance. This is a spin-off series, but is able to read on its own. It’s also a Victorian romance, for those who may want a break from the Regency era.

Four years ago, Lady Cecelia Campbell fell head over heels in love with Lord Rupert Marlowe, the young Earl of Stanhope. Everybody knew they would marry and live happily ever after.

But then Rupert did the unthinkable. He took up a commission as an officer in the army and left England for a post in the Transvaal. Cecelia was left alone in England, loving, yearning, and worrying about him from a distance.

Now Rupert has returned. He is ready to take up his seat in the House of Lords, to take over the administration of the Stanhope estate from his mother, Lady Katya, and most importantly of all, to finally marry Cecelia.

Cece isn’t the same woman Rupert left behind, however. She has grown and flourished and become a woman of strength and opinion. And she’s not going to sit back and let Rupert get away with leaving her for so long.

But when Cece takes a stand and declares her independence in a very public way, the scandal her defiance causes blows every expectation for her future happiness with Rupert to smithereens. It also gains her an exclusive invitation to join the elite group of politically-minded women known as the May Flowers. But the May Flowers are a group of shocking, defiant, sometimes wicked women. They are a bundle of scandals waiting to happen.

Can Rupert convince the new, more powerful Cecelia to forgive him for abandoning her, and can he woo her all over again? Will the scandal of their break-up tear them apart forever, or will it make their love stronger…and hotter?

  • The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel

The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel by Jennifer McQuiston

The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel by Jennifer McQuiston is $2.99! This is part of the Seduction Diaries series and readers are divided on whether they eventually warmed up to the hero. Jennifer’s podcast interviews on the site is one of my faves because she’s so fascinating. It also looks like all the books in the series are on sale.

New York Times bestselling author Jennifer McQuiston continues her enchanting Seduction Diaries series as a bookish spinster and an unrepentant rogue unite to unmask a traitor

    Every girl dreams of a hero . . .

No one loves books more than Miss Mary Channing. Perhaps that’s why she’s reached the ripe old age of six-and-twenty without ever being kissed. Her future may be as bland as milk toast, but Mary is content to simply dream about the heroes and adventures she reads about in her books. That way she won’t end up with a villain instead.

But sometimes only a scoundrel will do.

When she unexpectedly finds herself in the arms of Geoffrey Westmore, London’s most notorious scoundrel, it feels a bit like a plot from one of her favorite novels. Suddenly, Mary understands why even the smartest heroines can fall prey to a handsome face. And Westmore is more handsome than most. But far worse than the damage to her reputation, the moment’s indiscretion uncovers an assassination plot that reaches to the highest levels of society and threatens the course of the entire country.

When a tight-laced miss and a scoundrel of epic proportions put their minds together, nothing can stand in their way. But unless they put their hearts together as well, a happy ending is anything but assured.

  • When a Duke Says I Do

When a Duke Says I Do by Jane Goodger

When a Duke Says I Do by Jane Goodger is $1.99! This historical romance has marriage arrangements, scandalous affairs, and a hero who’s spent time in an asylum. Readers loved Alex, the “damaged hero” of the story, while some felt the characters were rather one-dimensional in their actions. It’s the first book in the Lords and Ladies series.

Miss Elsie Stanhope resided in Nottinghamshire, an area so rich in titled gentlemen, so felicitous for marriage-minded mamas, it was called “the Dukeries.” Indeed, Elsie had been betrothed since childhood to the heir of a dukedom. She had no expectation it would be a love match. Still less that she would enter into a shockingly scandalous affair with an altogether different sort of lover. And the very last thing she imagined was that the mysteries of his birth would be unraveled with as many unforeseen twists and turns as the deepest secrets of her heart.

Wait, Victorian era? Wouldn’t have guessed from the dress.

  2. scifigirl1986 says:

CW for The Perks of Loving a Scoundrel: I made the mistake of attempting to read this during the 2016 election cycle and was unable to get past the first few chapters because being in the hero’s head was like being in a slightly smarter version of Trump’s head. There were definite lines that sounded like they were straight out of that video of Trump and Billy Bush where he infamously said that because he was a celebrity people let him do whatever he wanted. I really liked the first two books in this series and was very disappointed in this one. It was the first casualty of that election for me.

  3. Carolyn McCullough says:

When a Duke Says I Do – is that an historical? The heroine’s tan line is showing. 😉

  4. Laura George says:

Does Farmer deal with atrocities carried out by the British in the Transvaal? One wonders.

  5. Quidnunc says:

Has anyone read the Farmer one? Is there adequate groveling?

  6. PamG says:

Sweet Hush by Deborah Smith is a Kindle Daily Deal today (2/21). I read and enjoyed this a while ago and don’t remember every tiny detail, but what I do remember is the marvelous sense of place (think Florand, only apple orchard) and the emotional depth. I was surprised that the blurb focused on the kids’ romance rather than Hush.

Whole lotta freebies from Sourcebooks, check your preferred retailer. I’m guessing this promo is for the whole month of February?
