  • Foolish Bride

    Foolish Bride by A.S. Fenichel

Foolish Bride by A.S. Fenichel is 99c at Amazon and Kobo! This is a second chance romance between two people who were supposed to get married. Some readers mentioned that the dialogue felt a bit too modern for a historical romance, but others really liked the heroine.

Sadly ever after . . . unless some dreams really do come true?

Elinor Burkenstock never believed in fairy tales. Sure, she’s always been a fool for love—what woman isn’t? But Elinor knows the difference between fiction and truth. Daydreams and reality. True love and false promises. . . . Until the unthinkable happens, and Elinor’s engagement is suddenly terminated and no one, least of all her fiancé, will tell her why.

Sir Michael Rollins’s war-hero days seem far behind him when, after one last hurrah before his wedding, he gets shot and his injuries leave him in dire shape. He wants nothing more than to marry Elinor, the woman of his wildest dreams. But Elinor’s father forbids it . . . and soon Michael is faced with a desperate choice: Spare Elinor a life with a broken man or risk everything to win her heart—until death do they part?

  • All I Want for Christmas is a Duke

All I Want for Christmas is a Duke by Vivienne Lorret

All I Want for Christmas is a Duke is $2.99! This is a holiday historical anthology with four novellas. Elyse read this one and gave it a B:

I would give the first two novellas in this anthology C’s–they were just sort of meh. I was swept away by the last two so I would give them A’s, meaning the anthology as a whole averages out to a B.

The holidays are a time for dining, dancing, and of course—dukes! Celebrate the Christmas season with this enchanting collection of historical romances featuring the most eligible bachelors of the ton

A childish prank may have reunited the Duke of Hollingsworth with his estranged wife, but only the magic of Christmas will show this couple ’tis the season of second chances…

Sophie Kinsley planned to remain a wallflower at the Duke of Hollyshire’s ball. Yet when a dance with him leads to a stolen kiss, will the duke be willing to let her go? Or will Sophie’s Christmas wish be granted at last?

To the Duke of Vale, science solves everything—even marriage. When the impulsive Ivy Sutherland makes him question all of his data, he realizes that he’s overlooked a vital component in his search for the perfect match: love.

Patience Markham never forgot the fateful dance she had with the future Duke of Kingsbury. But when a twist of fate brings them together for Christmas Eve, will the stars finally align in their favor?

  • Bachelors of Bond Street

Bachelors of Bond Street by Janna MacGregor

Bachelors of Bond Street is $3.99! This historical anthology came out this month and I personally believe any story by Janna MacGregor is worth the sticker price. However, I do wish the description was more…descriptive. Have any of you purchased this one already?

An all-new anthology featuring novellas from acclaimed Regency historical authors Janna MacGregor, Shana Galen, and Minerva Spencer. Bond Street is famous for its elite clubs, fashionable shops and successful businesses. Now meet the bachelors who’ve made Bond Street their domain. Are these gentlemen as lucky in love as they are in business?

  • The Lost History of Dreams

The Lost History of Dreams by Kris Waldherr

The Lost History of Dreams is $2.99! This is a Gothic ghost story with a creepy atmosphere, a lot of history, and more. It has a 3.6-star average on GoodReads, and so many reviews mention the word “eerie.” Have you read this book?

A post-mortem photographer unearths dark secrets of the past that may hold the key to his future, in this captivating debut novel in the gothic tradition of Wuthering Heights and The Thirteenth Tale.

All love stories are ghost stories in disguise.

When famed Byronesque poet Hugh de Bonne is discovered dead of a heart attack in his bath one morning, his cousin Robert Highstead, a historian turned post-mortem photographer, is charged with a simple task: transport Hugh’s remains for burial in a chapel. This chapel, a stained glass folly set on the moors of Shropshire, was built by de Bonne sixteen years earlier to house the remains of his beloved wife and muse, Ada. Since then, the chapel has been locked and abandoned, a pilgrimage site for the rabid fans of de Bonne’s last book, The Lost History of Dreams.

However, Ada’s grief-stricken niece refuses to open the glass chapel for Robert unless he agrees to her bargain: before he can lay Hugh to rest, Robert must record Isabelle’s story of Ada and Hugh’s ill-fated marriage over the course of five nights.

As the mystery of Ada and Hugh’s relationship unfolds, so does the secret behind Robert’s own marriage—including that of his fragile wife, Sida, who has not been the same since the tragic accident three years ago, and the origins of his own morbid profession that has him seeing things he shouldn’t—things from beyond the grave.

Kris Waldherr effortlessly spins a sweeping and atmospheric gothic mystery about love and loss that blurs the line between the past and the present, truth and fiction, and ultimately, life and death.

  1. denise says:

I read Janna’s story in the The Bachelors of Bond street. I’ll read the others before too long. I enjoyed it. It’s on the sweet side. Of course, I enjoy anything Janna writes.

  2. denise says:

I’ve also read All I want for Christmas is a Duke and enjoyed it.

  3. Deianira says:

“Once Upon a Christmas Wedding” is available as a Kindle Unlimited selection for me right now, so anyone interested might want to snap it up.

  4. Lisa F says:

Bachelors of Bond Street is, I think, the best of this particular lot.

  5. SusanE says:

I looked up my notes on Foolish Bride. Yikes!

“References to previous book plot not explained well. Lots of telling vs. showing. Stilted, jarring narration. Boring or unlikable characters. Fair idea but not executed well. Endless melodrama loaded on at end of plot.”

    Some spelling errors I noted:

canopies (canapes) – although it might be amusing to see someone try to eat a canopy
troth (trough) – can a glutton eat from a promise?
feted (fetid) – who wants to celebrate a villain’s breath?
road (rode) – as in “he road a horse”

  6. DonnaMarie says:

@SusanE, I have often said that I wished my mutant ability could be red pencilling a book and having the corrections appear in every exsisting copy.

  7. Nicolette says:

    @DonnaMarie

That’ll be amazing if you learned coding stuff and become the editor. Or Editress.

My mom had done text broker stuff and she would get really unhelpful suggestionss to her manual writing work at the time. “make it snappier!”
    “How?”

    Radio silence from the client.

  8. Deianira says:

@DonnaMarie: I hear you, & I too would like to be Red Pencil Girl. At least half of the notes I make on any given book are editorial. Here’s one I just made while reading a cute fake-marriage novel:

It’s PORED not POURED. You pore over a list & you pour a cup of tea. Get a proof reader!

    Spellchecking programs are the devil!

  9. EJ says:

Vivienne Lorret!! I totally forgot her name and I had even emailed her after finishing a series to tell her how much I enjoyed them, and she emailed me back!

  10. Kris Bock says:

So for Christmas I can get a cowboy, a vampire, or fudge, but no Duke. At least not through my library and Overdrive.

  11. Kit says:

I’m noticing a regency bias in this website. How about some romances from other periods? I’m more of a 1940’s/1950’s kind of person.

  12. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the other contributions to Once Upon a Christmas Wedding. Some made me laugh, some made me tear up, but all of them offered a nice break and escape as I whiled away my afternoons and evenings for much of the week. I highly recommend!

  13. Ann Martinez says:

Love the section devoted to historical!

  14. Vicki says:

Something about Lost History of Dreams led to the ‘one-click.” Plus I have Waldherr’s deck and love it.

  15. Nicolette says:

@kit A strong mood. I want time period options too. I’ll take cavemen romances.

  16. g.a. says:

Some of the errors make me cringe, especially when the books are by well known authors. The proof readers must be asleep. Example: Her horse lapped water ! Excuse me, horses do NOT lap water like a dog. Another one from a novel just released: When her horse saw her enter the stable, he bleated to her. ( Sheep bleat, horses nicker)
And common spelling errors, that should be picked up right away. I don’t think it is Spell check to blame.
I just finished a book that has been out a very short time, I was so excited to get my favorite author’s newest love story. I read the prologue over and over trying to figure out a time line. The hero’s wife was brushing her hair, and he thought she was still so slim from just having a babe 8 weeks ago, before she got the ear-bobs in her ears the babe was 4 years old. Yes,it was the same day , as the wife was dead 15 minutes later..
I guess if we want to support our favorite authors we have to put up with this nonsense…
