  • Let’s Pretend This Never Happened

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson

Let’s Pretend This Never Happened by Jenny Lawson is $1.99! We’ve reviewed another one of Lawson’s books on the site and her writing comes highly recommended. Lawson has a knack for addressing tough subjects with an approachable, humorous voice. Are you a fan of Lawson’s blog? Have you read any of her books?

When Jenny Lawson was little, all she ever wanted was to fit in. That dream was cut short by her fantastically unbalanced father and a morbidly eccentric childhood. It did, however, open up an opportunity for Lawson to find the humor in the strange shame-spiral that is her life, and we are all the better for it.

In the irreverent Let’s Pretend This Never Happened, Lawson’s long-suffering husband and sweet daughter help her uncover the surprising discovery that the most terribly human moments—the ones we want to pretend never happened—are the very same moments that make us the people we are today. For every intellectual misfit who thought they were the only ones to think the things that Lawson dares to say out loud, this is a poignant and hysterical look at the dark, disturbing, yet wonderful moments of our lives.

  • His Wicked Heart

His Wicked Heart by Darcy Burke

His Wicked Heart by Darcy Burke is $2.99! This is the second book in the Secrets & Scandals series. The first book is free! While readers mention it’s not the most realistic of historical romances, they say it’s an absorbing book with a to-die-for duke. Elyse read this previously. She compared it to Cinderella meets Fight Club, and gave it a C+. Have you read this one?

    It’s hard to be respectable…

Jasper Sinclair, Earl of Saxton, made a bargain with the devil—his father—to marry in one month’s time. But instead of declaring his intentions for an acceptable debutante, he indulges his long-buried baser needs by joining a fighting club and pursuing a delectable woman who may not be what she seems. Soon he finds himself battling addictions that threaten his already wicked heart.

    When you’d rather be wicked

Orphaned seamstress Olivia West wants the chance to lead an honest, respectable life, but the arrogant Earl of Saxton launches a daunting campaign to make Olivia his mistress. Destitute and desperate, Olivia agrees to one night with the dangerous peer, and draws upon her mother’s courtesan experience to seduce him. After binding and blindfolding him, she brings him to the edge of release, only to switch places with an actual prostitute. However, Jasper detects Olivia’s deception and vows to claim what he’s owed— not his money, her.

  • Lucien’s Fall

    Lucien’s Fall by Barbara Samuel

RECOMMENDED: Lucien’s Fall by Barbara Samuel is $2.99 at Amazon! This is something of an historical romance classic. Sarah read and reviewed this book in 2006 and gave it a B+, saying:

It was good in the sense that the author took risks and made real characters so that instead of villains that were cardboard and easily dismissed, I had secondary characters, fully-developed foils for the protagonists, and actions that were disruptive to the progress towards a happy ending, but that were driven by understandable motivation, not simple evil.

    A SINFULLY APPEALING RAKE
Lord Lucien Escher is a renowed London rake who believes there is not a woman in the world who cannot be seduced–he is determined to prove it, come what may.

    AN INTELLIGENT AND DETERMINED WOMAN
Madeline is determined to save her treasured ancestral home and has no use for love or the tricks of an unredeemable scoundrel. Against her better judgment, however, she is powerfully drawn to the elusive and dangerous Lucien, whose hard-hearted façade hides a tragedy that is slowly devouring him from within.

As Lucien and Madeline circle each other in a magnetic play of desire and denial, their passion will rise to a crescendo of longing and sacrifice that will change their fates forever.

  • The Art of Duke Hunting

The Art of Duke Hunting by Sophia Nash

The Art of Duke Hunting by Sophia Nash is 99c! This is the second book in the Royal Entourage series; a couple of the other titles are priced at $1.99. There’s a forced-proximity element, and some reviews mention that the hero is in his late-thirties. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads.

  1. Mrs. Obed Marsh says:

Is the Royal Entourage series a Regency take on The Hangover? That’s hilarious!

  2. DonnaMarie says:

I am a some what uneasy flier, so I usually grab a tried and true author when traveling by air. An emergency trip to AZ left me flat footed, but there in my Kindle was Lucien’s Fall. It had been there for so long, I don’t remember when or why I bought it. I’m sure I grunted some sort of response to the attendant’s beverage query and that I drank it, because there was an empty cup in front of me when I resurfaced during landing three hours later. It was a wonderful read.

    And look at that cover!

  3. Tam says:

Sally Beauman’s Destiny is on sale if anybody’s craving old-school ’80s bonkbuster saga stuff. Even better than Judith Krantz.

  4. Sue D says:

Let’s pretend this never happened is one of the funniest laugh out loud books I have ever read. That Lawson somehow combines this with frank talk about depression and mental illness is what makes it a gem. This is one of those books that you find yourself talking about with others who have also read it in what amount to shorthand memes – “the squirrel puppet” “the turkeys” oh and “the time her father threw a bobcat”.

  5. Sienna says:

I one-clicked that Jenny Lawson book so hard my mousepad has a dent in it lol. I’ve been wanting to read Jenny’s book for a while after reading her blog posts dealing with depression. Also, her instagram is highly amusing and always brings a smile on my face. Have to visit San Antonio when her new bookstore finally opens as well!
