Introducing the Smart Bitches Book Finder!

I am so excited to announce this, I just typed this sentence about five times.

We have a new and so freaking spiffy feature on the site:

The Smart Bitches Book Finder with a light grey magnifying glass behind the words

The Smart Bitches Book Finder is now live to help you find your next favorite read!

You can search by genre, theme (two of those!) and archetype:

Text display that says Find me books with - select a genre - select your first theme - add a second theme - select an archetype, then Show Me the Books! in a pink button at the bottom

Click “Show Me the Books!” and you’ll be shown a gorgeous assortment of up to 150 books that fit your search terms – unless you’ve stumped the database, which can happen.

You can click and head over there and search to your heart’s content – and I hope you will!

But I also want to explain a few things, and answer questions.

What database are we searching?

This is our internal database of many, many thousands of books. If a book has been mentioned, reviewed, posted as on sale, or featured, it’s likely in the database. And we’re a fourteen year old website with literal thousands of reviews, so it’s a happy, hefty database, to be sure.

Incidentally, the BookFinder is one of the reasons we recently, after 14 years, moved to our own server. After so long, finally SBTB has its own place!

What do I do if I notice something isn’t working or isn’t right?

Please tell me! I have a form for you to fill out, so if you notice an error, if you spot a book that is not sorted correctly, or if you think of a category we need to add, please get in touch with us!

I mean, it’s me (hi!), Amanda, and a team of excellent people constructing and managing the BookFinder so I do indeed want to hear from you if something isn’t working. We welcome your advice and input, as we want this to be as useful and usable as possible, so we can all find great books to read.

And speaking of Amanda, the database wouldn’t be as robust and bountiful as it is without her help, so many, many cheers and thanks, Amanda!

How do I find out if my book is listed?

Easy, and there are a couple of ways! First, if your book has been mentioned, reviewed, posted as on sale, featured on the site or mentioned in a podcast, it’s in the database.

But if you’re not sure, you can search for it, using the SEARCH box in the upper right hand corner of the site.

Type the title of the book in quotation marks in the search box. Trust me. The quotes are important, especially if the title has the word “duke” or something in it. Here’s an example:

The search box on the site with the words Lighting the Flames typed in quotation marks

Hit that enter key!

Searching for that example term yields a few results, which means the book has been mentioned and is most certainly in the database. But there is one particular type of result to watch for:

The search result for Lighting the Flames yields the SBTB Media Archive header at the top of one of the results. That's the proper name of the databse

The SBTB Media Archive is the proper name and title of the database, the one that appears on its business cards and the like.

If my book isn’t listed, or if I’m not sure, how do I have my book added to the database?

Thank you for asking! If you would like information on having your book added to our Book Finder, please fill out this form:

This isn't a commitment or anything like that - we need to gauge interest!

If you sign up here, you’ll get first access to the information on submitting your book.

Anything else?

This would not be possible without the team at Wax, especially Jenn and Mikhail, and without Amanda, so many deep and flawless curtseys to them.

Now go search, have fun, and please let me know what you think! Happiest of reading!

Congratulations on this feature! Be proud, be very proud.
I LOVE it. As a reader, follower of the blog, and a librarian, this makes me very happy on a lot of levels.

  2. SB Sarah says:

    Thank you so, so much!

  3. Diane says:

Can you put a permanent link on the side of your page so we can find it Easily? Thanks for all the hard work

  4. SB Sarah says:

Oh, yes – permanent linkage is coming today!

  5. Megan S. says:

I love this! What a great resource to share with all of us. Though I didn’t test it out very much because my first search resulted in finding something I wanted to read right away (so…success!), so that’s what I’ll be doing now. 😀

  6. Lisa says:

THIS IS ALL I WANT OUT OF LIFE!

  7. Deianira says:

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Usually I just go to Kindle, type in the name of a book I’ve already read & loved, & start poking around from there, but (a) that takes an inordinate amount of time & (b) I end up finding WAY too many books that get added to the ever-growing “I really need to read that!” list.

I’ll still do that, mind you, but now I can get an immediate hit of a particular theme if I want. Because sometimes only, say, a fake relationship romance will do!

  8. Veronica says:

Oh no, this feature will only lead to more Bad Decision Book Club moments for me; in other words, I am so excited!

  9. Leena says:

This is nice and convenient. A good addition to the site. Also comes at a time that I’m about to be asking everyone for witchy related books (yay fall!)

  10. MMVZ says:

    Wow! You’re terrific. Thanks

  11. Charlotte says:

This is suuuuuuuuuch a great feature, I can’t wait to explore – thank you for putting this all together!

  12. EC Spurlock says:

This is brilliant! Thank you all, ladies and gent, for all your hard work!

  13. LauraL says:

As if my TBR file isn’t big enough. 🙂 What a great feature!

  14. Jacki says:

    And my bank account wept

  15. Cyndy says:

Wonderful! Thank you for all your work on this! Do you know if you’ll be adding Diverse Protagonists as a search category? I don’t think I saw it listed as an option…

  16. Wow! You rock stars! Thank you!!!!!

  17. J says:

A million librarians just screamed with joy…and are still happily screaming.

  18. cbackson says:

I love this so much and I have been entertaining myself for WAY too long searching for the most unlikely combos possible (FYI, there are no results for “amish” + erotic romance).

  19. BellaInAus says:

Just had a play. No Dukes???

  20. LB says:

This is so great! (Also, I think the archetype search feature is not working?)

  21. hapax says:

My goodness. I’ve tried six times, and any combination of my favourite genres, themes, and archetypes just do not exist.

When o when will someone write the comedy/fantasy beta thief/assassin enemies-to-lovers dragon romance of my dreams?

  22. denise says:

    cool feature

  23. Viktória says:

Oh my God, you guys made my day! I love it so much

  24. Pre-Successful Indie says:

hapax, no hits for my fave combo either – which is why the line about “write your own” made me smile. Someday?! (my tiny books are not romance, yet)

This is fantastic. Thanks, all. Though I was *trying* to read down my TBR pile, so I will try to use it judiciously.

  25. anon_loves_knights says:

    OHMYGOSH!

Aaaannd, I feel rude for pointing it out, but would you consider adding “medieval”, not just “vikings”? I have a serious knight kink and it’s hard work to find good books as it is.

  26. Trippinoutmysoul says:

This is the coolest effing thing to happen to books since ereaders.

  27. kkw says:

I love this and thank you and on the off chance that you’re considering requests, I’m just going to note that librarian characters are catnip but author/writer characters are a dealbreaker for me and I really need those to be separated out please please please?

  28. AllisonRB says:

This is excellent, & very dangerous to my wallet. While participating in the testing phase, I discovered Alexis Hall via the “Age Difference” theme. Now have a new favorite author, & have had to buy a bunch of awesome books.

    Thanks for the great resource!

  29. Lori says:

    yay! It rules!
