  • Once a Rebel

Once a Rebel by Mary Jo Putney

Once a Rebel by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99! This is the second book in the historical romance Rogues Redeemed series. It’s also a friends to lovers romance! Readers enjoyed the setting of the War of 1812, but others found the conflicts were too easily solved.

    A ROGUE REDEEMED

As Washington burns, Callista Brooke is trapped in the battle between her native England and her adopted homeland. She is on the verge of losing everything, including her life, when a handsome Englishman cuts through the violent crowd to claim that she is his. Callie falls into her protector’s arms, recognizing that he is no stranger, but the boy she’d once loved, a lifetime ago.

Lord George Gordon Audley had been Callie’s best friend, and it was to Gordon she turned in desperation to avoid a loathsome arranged marriage. But the repercussions of his gallant attempt to rescue her sent Callie packing to Jamaica, and Gordon on a one way trip to the penal colony of Australia.

Against all odds, Gordon survived. Finding Callie is like reclaiming his tarnished soul, and once again he vows to do whatever is necessary to protect her and those she loves. But the innocent friendship they shared as children has become a dangerous passion that may save or destroy them when they challenge the aristocratic society that exiled them both . . .

  • Ink and Bone

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine

Ink and Bone by Rachel Caine is $1.99! This is the first book in the Great Library series, which Carrie has enjoyed. It’s about a great, magical library, which I know will perk up some readers’ ears. But while the concept seems awesome, some readers had trouble initially getting into it.

In an exhilarating new series, New York Times bestselling author Rachel Caine rewrites history, creating a dangerous world where the Great Library of Alexandria has survived the test of time.…

Ruthless and supremely powerful, the Great Library is now a presence in every major city, governing the flow of knowledge to the masses. Alchemy allows the Library to deliver the content of the greatest works of history instantly—but the personal ownership of books is expressly forbidden.

Jess Brightwell believes in the value of the Library, but the majority of his knowledge comes from illegal books obtained by his family, who are involved in the thriving black market. Jess has been sent to be his family’s spy, but his loyalties are tested in the final months of his training to enter the Library’s service.

When his friend inadvertently commits heresy by creating a device that could change the world, Jess discovers that those who control the Great Library believe that knowledge is more valuable than any human life—and soon both heretics and books will burn…

  • Bring the Heat

Bring the Heat by G.A. Aiken

Bring the Heat by G.A. Aiken is $2.99 at select vendors! This is a paranormal/fantasy romance with dragon shifters and class differences. I’ve only read the first book in this series and enjoyed it. However, this one is the ninth book in the Dragon Kin series and I’m uncertain if it’d be best to read them all in order. Thoughts?

    HE SAYS . . .

I, Aidan the Divine, am, well divine. My name was given to me by the Dragon Queen herself! I’m a delight! Cheerful. Charming. And a mighty warrior who is extremely handsome with a very large and well-hidden hoard of gold. I am also royal born, despite the fact that most in my family are horrendous beings that don’t deserve to live. And yet, Branwen the Awful—a low-born, no less—either tells me to shut up or, worse, ignores me completely.

    SHE SAYS . . .

I’ll admit, I ignore Aidan the Divine because it annoys him. A lot. But, we have so much to do right now, I can’t worry about why he keeps staring at me, or why he always sits so close, or why he keeps looking at me like he’s thinking about kissing me. We have our nations to save and no time for such bloody foolishness . . . no matter how good Aidan looks or how long his spiked tail is. Because if we’re going to win this war before it destroys everything we love, we’ll have to face our enemies together, side by side and without distractions. But if we make it out alive, who knows what the future will hold . . .

  • The Complete Bakery Sisters Trilogy

The Complete Bakery Sisters Trilogy by Susan Mallery

The Complete Bakery Sisters Trilogy by Susan Mallery is $1.99! It’s also a Kindle Daily Deal and is being price-matched. This trilogy collects three full-length contemporary romances with sisters and bakery elements.

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Susan Mallery comes three fan-favorite tales of sisterhood, love, and fresh starts.

    Sweet Talk

The twenty-eight-year-old piano prodigy, Claire Keyes, has never had a regular boyfriend, much less a real romance. Claire is determined to fall in love, or at least in lust, for the first time. Ruggedly sexy Wyatt just might fit the bill. Although he keeps saying that he and Claire come from entirely different worlds, he lights up hotter than a bakery oven whenever Claire is near. If this keeps up, she just might sweet-talk him into her bed…and her life.

    Sweet Spot

“Responsibility” should be Nicole Keyes’s middle name. But super reliable Nicole is getting sick of putting everyone else’s needs first. Enter Hawk. The deliciously sexy former NFL player offers Nicole a taste of the freedom she craves. Hawk might be a sweet temptation, but Nicole’s not about to let him get close enough to break her heart. Of course, she might not have a choice in the matter…

    Sweet Trouble

Jesse Keyes has changed her ways. With a steady job and a vibrant son, Gabe, she’s in a far better place than when she left Seattle five years ago, pregnant and misunderstood. Now it’s time to go home and face her demons. But Matt, Gabe’s father, makes it clear he hasn’t forgiven her. Jesse doesn’t know if she can make up for her past mistakes, but she can promise to make it worth the trouble….

  1. Hope says:

Amazon reviews for Bring the Heat indicate that it is not a standalone.

  2. Teev says:

You definitely have to read the Dragon Kin series in order. But they are fun so Yay read them all.

  3. Hannah says:

The Bakery Sisters Trilogy made me angry. I didn’t find most of the characters to be very likeable, and the love interest in the 3rd book was awful. He did terrible things to the main character just because his feelings were hurt, and she still took him back.

  4. AmyS says:

I’ve read all of the the Dragon Kin books and feel they are best enjoyed in order because of the world building and recurring characters. The dragon brothers in this series are a riot and if you like dragon shifters it is a great series to read.

  5. MaryK says:

I liked what I read of INK AND BONE. (I borrowed the ebook from my library and it expired on me about 3/4 of the way through.) If readers expect a magical library setting, I can see why they might have trouble getting into it. The Great Library is an institution that uses magic to corral and hoard books that aren’t themselves magical. The story is about the characters learning to be Indiana Jones type “librarians” who use magic to recover blackmarket books. I think in later books they go rogue and fight against the hoarding.

I think this book would fit well in the Institute of Magical Education post.

  6. HeatherS says:

“A Few Good Fish” (Fish Out of Water 3) by Amy Lane is $0.99 at Amazon. M/M romantic suspense series; the author said she basically sees the characters as Chris Pine and Zachary Quinto.

  7. HeatherS says:

I really like the Great Library series. Think of it as alternate history future dystopia, not so much magic fantasy. I love the cast of characters – there’s a queer couple and a super smart hijabi who kicks all the butt. Love!

  8. Lora says:

I like the Greal Library series too, particularly the dystopia where knowledge and books are the commodity being controlled. I had issues with the love interest for Jess–too cardboard and angelic for my taste–but it’s entertaining.

  9. Jill-Marie says:

Agree with the others that you really need to read the Dragon Kin series in order. There is a lot of world building and the characters continue throughout the series.

But it is SO WORTH IT.

  10. HeatherS says:

@Lora – I thought the romance aspect of it seemed really forced. Like, you guys haven’t even had enough page time together to decide that you even like each other that way. There are other couples who are far more believable. But I guess the author felt she couldn’t tell a cool story about a guy and his gang saving the world by giving control of information to the people. No, it has to have a romance. Personally, I think there are enough side romances in an opposites attract kind of way that the so-called central romance is really unnecessary.
