  5. Jane says:

My favourite book so far this year is where the crawdads sing – just an amazing book!

  6. Kathryn says:

So far my favourite has been Katherine Arden’s The Winter of the Witch. I read the last two back to back on a trip away and finished just feeling so sad that there wasn’t another one waiting for me. Such a beautiful series and would recommend it to everyone.

  7. Lizzy says:

I really loved My Sister the Serial Killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite, which I read thanks to the Smart Bitches review!

  8. Lana says:

My favorite so far this year has been Maureen Johnson’s Truly Devious – though it ends unresolved and I haven’t gotten my hands on the sequel yet!

  9. Antipodean Shenanigans says:

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Totally lived up to the hype.

  10. Susan says:

This year is off to a decent start with several 5-star ratings so far, including Faith Hunter’s Circle of the Moon and S.K. Dunstall’s Linesman series. Honorable Mention to Ruth Hogan’s The Keeper of Lost Things, which didn’t get top marks, but was still enjoyable.

  11. Megan says:

My favorite book so far this year is The Good Ones by Jenn McKinlay. Also have enjoyed Becoming by Michelle Obama.

  12. Kate says:

    Polaris Rising – Jessie Mihalik

  13. Sarahjane Cottrell says:

Favorite book so far this year is
Izzy and the Right Answer by R. Cooper
A very sweet m/m/m romance with an Ace and non-neurotypical hero.

  14. Abby says:

I know I’m late to the game but so far The Kiss Quotient is my favorite. So good!

  15. Stacie says:

Free To Believe by Tracey Jerald has been named my new #1. Before that it was An Exaltation of Larks by Suanne Lacquer.

  16. MO says:

Burnout: The Secref to Unlocking Your Stress Cycle. This book is amazing and has been life changing for me. Can’t recommend enough!

  17. DiscoDollyDeb says:

I recently read two books almost back-to-back and both of them are candidates for my favorite book of 2019 (so far):

MY WICKED PRINCE by Molly O’Keefe: a royal romance set in a fictional Nordic kingdom with roots in Scotland and Scandinavia (O’Keefe’s world-building is excellent). The Prince is dissolute and decadent (or is he?); his step-sister wants to rescue their island nation from too much dependence on other countries. Palace intrigue (and sexual tension!) commence.

RUTHLESS by Sybil Bartel: the latest in her Alpha Bodyguards series. This one had ALL the catnip: enforced proximity, bodyguard hero, opposites attract, and also an undercurrent of melancholy as both h&h have their demons based on various types of dysfunctional families. There is a lot of violence in the book—and it helps if you’ve read other books in the series—but the essence of the book (self-discovery, self-acceptance, and finding your soulmate in the most unlikely place) is all about love.

  18. Avengela says:

Polaris Rising – could not put it down!

  19. The Mortal World, by a Genevieve Cogman – I’m loving her whole Invisible Library series, which has books, and spying, and adventure, and twisty politics, and romance, and orderly dragons and chaotic faeries, and alternate worlds and a Sherlock Holmes analogue, and yes, I know that’s a lot, but they are a complete joy to read.

  20. SandyH says:

My favorite is Wild Country by Anne Bishop. I cannot wait to read the newest St. Cyr mystery by C. S. Harris.

  21. Michelle says:

The book currently open in IBooks is Oliver Sacks: An anthropologist on Mars, the one open in Play books is V.E. Schwab: A darker shade of magic, the one I’m reading in Kobo books is Sally Malcolm: Perfect day and on paper I’m re-reading The Lord of the Rings. (My son finally sleeps through the night, so I’m catching up 😉

  22. Gillian says:

I adored Burnout! I felt so understood and like I understood so much more about myself!

  23. Laine says:

Mend the Living by Maylis de Kerangal

I was surprised to see that I had given five stars to only two books this year. Have to be pickier from now on. Or maybe just spend less time on mediocre shonen manga.

  24. Emily C says:

Best book so far – probably A Woman is No Man by Etaf Rum. Had some first-time author storytelling problems but overall a really personal and important story that needs to be told. I am so glad I read it and recommend it everywhere.
Most fun this year was definitely Faking It by Jennifer Crusie.

  25. Naomi says:

That’s a really hard question, but I did really love the Courtney Milan novella that came out last week (Mrs. Martin’s Incomparable Adventure) and Holley Trent’s Writing Her In.

  26. Jennifer M. says:

I only have a couple of chapters left on Burnout, and I’m already picking it as my favorite. I’ve spent several months this winter dealing with flare ups of an incredibly painful inflammation, and while I think it’s finally resolved (thanks to my incredible physical therapist), it’s been a wake-up call in terms of stress. This book came along at exactly the right time.

  27. Mandy Aguilar says:

So far my favorite read this year is A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi!

  28. Lynnd says:

I have spent the past few months whittling away at my TBR pile. So far my favourite book has been C.S. Harris’ what Darkness Brings and Who Buries the Dead (I am so far behind).

On the nonfiction front, I loved Michelle Obama’s Becoming.

  29. So far, my favorite book this year is THE CRUEL PRINCE by Holly Black.

  30. Nerdalisque says:

I loved Winter of the Witch.

  31. Kaye55 says:

I loved Wild Country by Anne Bishop. The only downside is that I have yo wait another year for the next book

  32. Kerry says:

This has been a good year. Find new at least to me authors. My fav book is older The Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare. So good

  33. Poppy Arakelian says:

Carry On by Rainbow Rowell was definitely my fave read so far this year! So good!!!

  34. Amile says:

A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine (which I first heard about on the podcast!) I couldn’t put it down and now I’m eagerly awaiting the sequel.

  35. Joy says:

I bought and re-read Innocent in Death by JD Robb. I’d read it from the library earlier but bought it in January. The sweet romance between the dedicated teacher and his wife was poignant, the villain mind-boggling and the backstory with Roake’s old flame and the stress she causes Dallas shows that “happily ever after” with real grownups takes work and goes through tough patches.

  36. Michelle L says:

My favorite book so far has been The Beautiful Strangers by Camille Di Maio.

  37. Patricia M. says:

Circle of the Moon by Faith Hunter

  38. Hannah says:

I just finished Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik and the whole combo of fairytales retelling, facing the price of a bargain and consequences you didn’t choose but have to shoulder anyway, rage, cleverly woven points of view, more rage, and a jewish heroine all did it for me. I think it was my first real 5 stars in a while actually.

  39. Aria says:

My favorite thus far has been discovering the London Celebrities series (finally).

  40. Janet Brewer says:

The Tarian Outcast by TS Joyce. I love the series, but this one got to me.
