Historical Romances & V.E. Schwab

  • Vicious

    Vicious by V. E. Schwab

RECOMMENDED: Vicious by V.E. Schwab is $2.99! Though I have not read this, several of my friends (four to be exact, two of whom have rated it five starts on Goodreads) have and absolutely loved it. With rivalries, super powers, and experiments gone wrong, Vicious has been compared to being a literary comic book. It’s part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, which also include a couple romances.

A masterful, twisted tale of ambition, jealousy, betrayal, and superpowers, set in a near-future world.

Victor and Eli started out as college roommates—brilliant, arrogant, lonely boys who recognized the same sharpness and ambition in each other. In their senior year, a shared research interest in adrenaline, near-death experiences, and seemingly supernatural events reveals an intriguing possibility: that under the right conditions, someone could develop extraordinary abilities. But when their thesis moves from the academic to the experimental, things go horribly wrong. Ten years later, Victor breaks out of prison, determined to catch up to his old friend (now foe), aided by a young girl whose reserved nature obscures a stunning ability. Meanwhile, Eli is on a mission to eradicate every other super-powered person that he can find—aside from his sidekick, an enigmatic woman with an unbreakable will. Armed with terrible power on both sides, driven by the memory of betrayal and loss, the archnemeses have set a course for revenge—but who will be left alive at the end?

In Vicious, V. E. Schwab brings to life a gritty comic-book-style world in vivid prose: a world where gaining superpowers doesn’t automatically lead to heroism, and a time when allegiances are called into question.

  • Lady Be Bad

Lady Be Bad by Megan Frampton

Lady Be Bad by Megan Frampton is $1.99! This is the first book in the Duke’s Daughters. The heroine in this one is supposed to marry the hero’s brother, if that is or isn’t your catnip. Some readers made the comparison that the main characters are Elizabeth & Darcy-esque. Others found it to be just meh.

Once upon a time, a duke had five daughters who never made a stir. They practiced their French, their pianoforte, and their dancing…until one ran off with the dancing instructor, and the rest were left to face the scandal.

Lady Eleanor, the Duke of Marymount’s eldest daughter, knows the burden is hers: she must marry well to restore the family name. So a loveless match is made and her fate is set. But then Eleanor meets her intended’s rakish younger brother. With his tawny hair, green eyes, and scandalous behavior, Lord Alexander Raybourn makes her want to be very bad indeed.

With his very honorable sibling too busy saving the world to woo Eleanor, Alexander is tasked with finding out her likes and dislikes for his elder brother. But the more time he spends with the secretly naughty Eleanor, helping her tick off all the things on her good list for being bad, the more he knows what they want, and need, is each other.

  • The Duke of Her Desire

The Duke of Her Desire by Sophie Barnes

The Duke of Her Desire by Sophie Barnes is $1.99! This is the second book in the Diamonds in the Rough series. Readers wanted more chemistry between the main characters. However, others found the overall story to be sweet and charming. Have you read this series?

He was only supposed to keep an eye on his friend’s sister . . . now he’s about to lose his heart . . .

When Thomas Heathmore, Duke of Coventry, agrees to steer his friend’s inexperienced younger sister through society, he doesn’t expect the lady in question to be so infernally stubborn. Amelia Matthews seems to have little interest in balls or suitors at all. Instead, she intends to open a school, and against his better instincts, Thomas offers to help. Yet somewhere along the line, Amelia ceases to be a simple responsibility . . . and becomes an undeniable temptation.

Since her brother inherited a dukedom, Amelia’s prospects have transformed. But though she’s long been secretly infatuated with Thomas, she refuses to heed the arrogant aristocrat’s advice. If only it were as easy to ignore his heated touch. And as Amelia soon learns, the ton is a minefield, where one moment’s indiscretion can unleash a scandal—or entice her to surrender everything to the duke of her desire . .

  • To Taste Temptation

To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt

To Taste Temptation by Elizabeth Hoyt is $1.99! This is book one in the Legend of the Four Soldiers series and was mentioned in a Rec League on Historical Romance House Parties. Readers warn that the beginning is a little slow, but if you’re looking to fully collect all of Hoyt’s romances, $1.99 is a good price!

The ton loves a good scandal, and theyre giddy when wealthy Samuel Hartley arrives. Not only is he self-made, American, and in the habit of wearing moccasins, he is also notorious for fleeing a battle in which several English gentlemen died. What the ton doesnt know is that Samuel is in London because of this massacre. He believes his regiment was given up to the enemy and wont rest until he finds the traitor.

Lady Emeline Gordon is captivated by Samuel. Not only does he defy convention, but he survived the battle that killed her brother. Samuel suspects that the person responsible is Jasper Renshaw, Viscount Vale, Emeline’s fiance. Though Emeline believes Vale is innocent and refuses to break off her betrothal, she and Samuel begin a passionate affair. Can their relationship survive the fallout from Samuels investigation?

  1. Hope says:

To Taste Tempatation is okay, but the second book in that series, To Seduce a Sinner, is one I’ve read over and over. The third is also good. The fourth is meh. They do read best in order, though, so if you’re looking for a new series, I recommend it.

  2. Katie Lynn says:

The Scot Beds His Wife by Kerrigan Byrne is $1.99 it’s part of the historical series that starts with the Highwayman. Usually runs $8

  3. Peggy says:

Aftercare by Tanya Chris is free today at Amazon! (M/m, BDSM, where the Dom is a Muslim immigrant)

  4. elaanfaun says:

To Beguile a Beast is my fave in that Hoyt series. Runaway courtesan (seen in book 2) with 2 kids sent to “safety” to damaged (physically and psychologically) soldier friend. Monster with a heart of gold. Hot sexy times. Plot moppets are adorbs. A very sweetly cared for senior dog and a new puppy. Also, fruit birth control. Slightly crazy sauce, but I love a Beauty&Beast story.

@Peggy – thanks for that! I downloaded and read Aftercare yesterday. I really enjoyed it.
