  • Part-Time Lover

    Part-Time Lover by Lauren Blakely

    Author: Lauren Blakely
Released: June 1, 2018 by Lauren Blakely Books
    Genre: ,

A sinfully sexy new standalone romance from #1 New York Times Bestseller Lauren Blakely

I’ll say this about Christian — he made one heck of a first impression. When I first saw the strapping man, he was doing handstands naked on a dock along the canal. His crown jewels were far more entertaining than anything else I’d seen on the boat tour, so I did what any curious woman would do — I took his photo. I might have looked at the shot a few dozen times. Little did I know I’d meet him again, a year later, at a secret garden bar in the heart of the city, where I’d learn that his mind and his mouth were even more captivating. But given the way my heart had been trampled, I wanted only a simple deal — No strings. No expectations.

Our arrangement worked well enough until the day I needed a lot more from him…

    ***
Let me just say, this whole part-time lover thing was her idea. I’d have gone all-in from the start, but hey, when a gorgeous, brilliant woman invites you into her bed, and only her bed…well, I said yes.

But then, one hysterical phone call from my brother later, begging me to find myself a wife so grandfather’s business stays in the family, and I need a promotion with Elise. Turns out a full-time husband suits her needs too, and a temporary marriage of convenience ought to do the trick, until we can simply untie the knot…

As long as no one finds out…
As long as no one gets hurt…
As long as no one falls in love…
But our ending was one I never saw coming.

Amanda: I love modern marriage of convenience stories.

Bring Me Their Hearts by Sara Wolf

Released: June 5, 2018 by Entangled: Teen
    Genre: ,

Zera is a Heartless – the immortal, unageing soldier of a witch. Bound to the witch Nightsinger ever since she saved her from the bandits who murdered her family, Zera longs for freedom from the woods they hide in. With her heart in a jar under Nightsinger’s control, she serves the witch unquestioningly.

Until Nightsinger asks Zera for a Prince’s heart in exchange for her own, with one addendum; if she’s discovered infiltrating the court, Nightsinger will destroy her heart rather than see her tortured by the witch-hating nobles.

Crown Prince Lucien d’Malvane hates the royal court as much as it loves him – every tutor too afraid to correct him and every girl jockeying for a place at his darkly handsome side. No one can challenge him – until the arrival of Lady Zera. She’s inelegant, smart-mouthed, carefree, and out for his blood. The Prince’s honor has him quickly aiming for her throat.

So begins a game of cat and mouse between a girl with nothing to lose and a boy who has it all.

    Winner takes the loser’s heart.

    Literally.

    Amanda says: This sounds kickass.

    Author: Helen Hoang
Released: June 5, 2018 by Berkley
    Genre: ,
    Series: The Kiss Quotient #1

A heartwarming and refreshing debut novel that proves one thing: there’s not enough data in the world to predict what will make your heart tick.

Stella Lane thinks math is the only thing that unites the universe. She comes up with algorithms to predict customer purchases–a job that has given her more money than she knows what to do with, and way less experience in the dating department than the average thirty-year-old.

It doesn’t help that Stella has Asperger’s and French kissing reminds her of a shark getting its teeth cleaned by pilot fish. Her conclusion: she needs lots of practice–with a professional. Which is why she hires escort Michael Phan. The Vietnamese and Swedish stunner can’t afford to turn down Stella’s offer, and agrees to help her check off all the boxes on her lesson plan–from foreplay to more-than-missionary position…

Before long, Stella not only learns to appreciate his kisses, but crave all of the other things he’s making her feel. Their no-nonsense partnership starts making a strange kind of sense. And the pattern that emerges will convince Stella that love is the best kind of logic…

Amanda says: This book is charming as fuck.

    Genre: ,
Series: The Ones Who Got Away #2

Most days Rebecca Lindt feels like an imposter…

The world admires her as a survivor. But that impression would crumble if people knew her secret. She didn’t deserve to be the one who got away. But nothing can change the past, so she’s thrown herself into her work. She can’t dwell if she never slows down.

Wes Garrett is trying to get back on his feet after losing his dream restaurant, his money, and half his damn mind in a vicious divorce. But when he intervenes in a mugging and saves Rebecca―the attorney who helped his ex ruin him―his simple life gets complicated.

  • Sick: A Memoir

Sick: A Memoir by Porochista Khakpour

    Author: Porochista Khakpour
Released: June 5, 2018 by Harper Perennial
    Genre:

In the tradition of Brain on Fire and Darkness Visible, an honest, beautifully rendered memoir of chronic illness, misdiagnosis, addiction, and the myth of full recovery that details author Porochista Khakpour’s struggles with late-stage Lyme disease.

For as long as writer Porochista Khakpour can remember, she has been sick. For most of that time, she didn’t know why. All of her trips to the ER and her daily anguish, pain, and lethargy only ever resulted in one question: How could any one person be this sick? Several drug addictions, three major hospitalizations, and over $100,000 later, she finally had a diagnosis: late-stage Lyme disease.

Sick is Khakpour’s arduous, emotional journey—as a woman, a writer, and a lifelong sufferer of undiagnosed health problems—through the chronic illness that perpetually left her a victim of anxiety, living a life stymied by an unknown condition.

Divided by settings, Khakpour guides the reader through her illness by way of the locations that changed her course—New York, LA, New Mexico, and Germany—as she meditates on both the physical and psychological impacts of uncertainty, and the eventual challenge of accepting the diagnosis she had searched for over the course of her adult life. With candor and grace, she examines her subsequent struggles with mental illness, her addiction to the benzodiazepines prescribed by her psychiatrists, and her ever-deteriorating physical health.

A story about survival, pain, and transformation, Sick is a candid, illuminating narrative of hope and uncertainty, boldly examining the deep impact of illness on one woman’s life.

Elyse says: As someone with a chronic illness, I find this very intriguing.

Not you without me, not me without you.

Two proud kingdoms stand on opposite shores, with only a bloody history between them.

  • Playing with Matches

Playing with Matches by Hannah Orenstein

    Author: Hannah Orenstein
Released: June 26, 2018 by Touchstone
    Genre: , ,

In the tradition of Good in Bed and The Assistants comes a funny and smart comedy about a young matchmaker balancing her messy personal life and the demands of her eccentric clients.

Sasha Goldberg has a lot going for her: a recent journalism degree from NYU, an apartment with her best friend Caroline, and a relationship that would be amazing if her finance-bro boyfriend Jonathan would ever look up from his BlackBerry. But when her dream career falls through, she uses her family’s darkest secret to land a job as a matchmaker for New York City’s elite at the dating service Bliss.

Despite her inexperience, Sasha throws herself into her new career, trolling for catches on Tinder, coaching her clients through rejection, and dishing out dating advice to people twice her age. She sets up a TV exec who wanted kids five years ago, a forty-year-old baseball-loving virgin, and a consultant with a rigorous five-page checklist for her ideal match.

Sasha hopes to find her clients The One, like she did. But when Jonathan betrays her, she spirals out of control—and right into the arms of a writer with a charming Southern drawl, who she had previously set up with one of her clients. He’s strictly off-limits, but with her relationship on the rocks, all bets are off.

Fresh, sweet, and laugh-out-loud funny, Playing with Matches is the addictive story about dating in today’s swipe-heavy society, and a young woman trying to find her own place in the world.

Sarah says: The author was a matchmaker at a prestige dating agency, and I’m fascinated by that entire concept. Those dating agency ads in airline magazines always make me wonder what that job is like. Anyway, I have heard that this book is charming and funny, and I’m really looking forward to it.

Released: June 26, 2018 by Saga Press
    Genre:
    Series: The Sixth World #1

While most of the world has drowned beneath the sudden rising waters of a climate apocalypse, Dinétah (formerly the Navajo reservation) has been reborn. The gods and heroes of legend walk the land, but so do monsters.

Maggie Hoskie is a Dinétah monster hunter, a supernaturally gifted killer. When a small town needs help finding a missing girl, Maggie is their last—and best—hope. But what Maggie uncovers about the monster is much larger and more terrifying than anything she could imagine.

Maggie reluctantly enlists the aid of Kai Arviso, an unconventional medicine man, and together they travel to the rez to unravel clues from ancient legends, trade favors with tricksters, and battle dark witchcraft in a patchwork world of deteriorating technology.

As Maggie discovers the truth behind the disappearances, she will have to confront her past—if she wants to survive.

    Welcome to the Sixth World.

  1. MirandaB says:

Red Waters Rising by Laura Ann Gilman. This is the third in her Devil’s West series, and I’m interested in where she takes this.

Most of the stuff I’m excited about comes out in July 🙂

  2. Ren Benton says:

I have also had Rebecca Roanhorse preordered for months. She recently won a Nebula Award for her short story “Welcome to Your Authentic Indian Experience.”

  3. Sandra says:

Jo Goodman has a new book coming out Tuesday. She’s one of my few autobuy authors. And Ilona Andrews…. there’s a great backstory to that book, check it out.

  4. PamG says:

    Hugh D’Ambray. mm-mm-mmmm.

  5. DonnaMarie says:

The Count and Trail Of Lightning are everything I didn’t know I was looking for. I’ll be off to go clicking after putting in a word for Shannon McKenna’s In My Skin, just the crazysauce I’ll need to unwind after my Goddaughter’s wedding. Yum.

  6. Katey says:

I have been anxiously awaiting for Relentless for months! I read the first in the series, Defenseless, and loved it. Elizabeth Dyer cannot write fast enough for for me.

  7. Dorothea says:

“Playing with Matches”: BlackBerry? really? what is this, a historical romance?

  8. LauraL says:

@ Dorothea – Believe it or not, a lot of finance types still use Blackberries. Unfortunately, I have firsthand knowledge of problems said finance types may have with their Blackberries.

Just added myself to the wait lists for The Kiss Quotient and One for the Rogue at my local library.

  9. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@DonnaMarie: thank you for the heads up re the new Shannon McKenna. I love her sexy-crazy-sauce mashups!

  10. DonnaMarie says:

@DiscoDollyDeb, always happy to help out a fellow crazysauce addict.

  11. Darlynne says:

TRUST by Kylie Scott is $1.99 at Amazon today. I think SBTB has recommended it in the past.

  12. Demi says:

Yeah, just take all my money Amazon! I need more pre-orders (obviously).

  13. Rehana says:

Anything by Ilona Andrews is an automatic buy for me. I seriously can’t wait until the 26th! AND there’s a new Kate Daniels coming at the end of August!

  14. Jaclyn says:

I’m so excited for Trail of Lightening! Indigenous Futurism is such an exciting genre. I’d love to see more Native people break into the romance world. Let’s make it happen, Romancelandia!

“Welcome to your Authentic Indian Experience (TM)” by Roanhorse is great btw. Highly recommend.

  15. Uh, “Trail of Lightning” sounds amazing. Clickity-click-click-click! Also very excited for “Iron and Magic,” “Ocean Light,” and “The One You Can’t Forget.”

BTW: “Ayiti” by Roxane Gay is being re-released this month, and OMG, it’s the best thing I’ve read so far this year! It’s a collection of short stories about Haiti and it’s gorgeous. It deals a lot with sex (TW: with and without consent) and sexuality, so I thought some of the Bitchery might find it of interest.

  16. Kareni says:

Sandra, thanks for mentioning the forthcoming Jo Goodman book.

  17. Susan says:

Not a romance, but Tanya Huff has a new Peacekeeper book coming out later this month.

  18. anonymous says:

Re: Ayiti by Roxane Gay, recommended in a comment (thank you!) , I’m wondering if the content warning would be upgraded to rape? Isn’t sex inherently consensual? And anything outside of that… is rape? Totally not meaning to be critical, just sharing something I feel and think. <3

  19. Iris says:

Ain’t She a Peach (Southern Eclectic Book 4) by Molly Harper is due out on the 12th.

  20. […] June’s New Releases – Meet the Naughty Princess Club, a series from USA Today bestselling author Tara Sivec that brings readers to Fairytale Lane and the hilarity—and romance. […]

  21. Darlynne says:

@Susan (#17): I have such a huge crush on Torin Kerr. Thank you for mentioning the newest. I’m now two books behind, but that’s a great place to be.

  22. Katie C. says:

Does anyone know if Iron and Magic will be coming out in print? Right now Amazon is showing only a Kindle version. I have a strong preference for paper over ebooks so I am hoping it will be printed as I LOVED the Hidden Legacy series.

  23. Dreamingintrees says:

@Katie C. Unfortunately I believe it is ebook only since they are self publishing it

  24. Tam says:

Hugh D’Ambray as romantic lead? Uh. But – the slaughter and torture?!

Hey, I believe that Andrews can pull it off if anyone can, but my brain did a bit of a short-circuit thing when I read that synopsis.

  25. Persephone says:

Every thread I place on the board will wrench together and lead me back to her.

    Huh??

  26. Laura says:

If you like historical romances that are a bit spicy: “Burning for the Baron” (Lords of Discipline Book 3) by Alyson Chase.

Books 1 and 2 were wonderful.
