  • Uncertain Magic

    Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale

Uncertain Magic by Laura Kinsale is $1.99! This was originally published in the late 80s and has since gotten a cover update. This definitely has some old skool power dynamics, that probably don’t translate well to today. But Kinsale is a favorite in the Bitchery. Have you enjoyed this one?

Roderica Delamore is an heiress and should be a prize catch—except for an embarrassing and magical secret. She has the ability to hear the thoughts of those around her and has never been able to trust anyone as a result. So she dedicates herself to raising her family’s prize Thoroughbreds and resigns herself to a life without romance—until she meets Faelan Savigar, the Earl of Iveragh, a mysterious, roguish Irishman whose thoughts are entirely closed to her unusual perceptions. She discovers that she has finally met the man she has been waiting her whole life to discover.

He is called “the Devil Earl” and is as enigmatic to everyone else as he turns out to be to Roderica. He is also impoverished, damned in society by dark rumor and innuendo, and, for all she knows, he could be a liar, a swindler, or worse, but his secrets stir her and Roderica is prepared to entrust her life—and her heart—to an enchanting stranger.

  • These Broken Stars

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman

These Broken Stars by Amie Kaufman and Meagan Spooner is $2.99! This is a scifi YA with romantic elements and it’s from two authors that are well-loved. Kaufman is the co-author if Illuminae ( A | BN | K | G | AB ), which we’ve featured on sale before and many readers have enjoyed. And Spooner is the author of Huntedwhich earned an A from Elyse. So…I’m expecting good things from this one.

It’s a night like any other on board the Icarus. Then, catastrophe strikes: the massive luxury spaceliner is yanked out of hyperspace and plummets into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive. And they seem to be alone.

Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a young war hero who learned long ago that girls like Lilac are more trouble than they’re worth. But with only each other to rely on, Lilac and Tarver must work together, making a tortuous journey across the eerie, deserted terrain to seek help.

Then, against all odds, Lilac and Tarver find a strange blessing in the tragedy that has thrown them into each other’s arms. Without the hope of a future together in their own world, they begin to wonder—would they be better off staying here forever?

Everything changes when they uncover the truth behind the chilling whispers that haunt their every step. Lilac and Tarver may find a way off this planet. But they won’t be the same people who landed on it.

  • Ruin & Rule

Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters

Ruin & Rule by Pepper Winters is $1.99! This is a darker contemporary romance with a billionaire biker hero. I’m honestly so on the fence about buying this one because I’m all about dark romances. Maybe someone from the Bitchery can help convince/dissuade me? I should also note that many Goodreads reviews mention that it ends with a cliffhanger, so be ye warned.

“We met in a nightmare. The in-between world where time had no power over reason. We fell in love. We fell hard. But then we woke up. And it was over . . .”

    RUIN & RULE

She is a woman divided. Her past, present, and future are as twisted as the lies she’s lived for the past eight years. Desperate to get the truth, she must turn to the one man who may also be her greatest enemy . . .

He is the president of Pure Corruption MC. A heartless biker and retribution-deliverer. He accepts no rules, obeys no one, and lives only to reap revenge on those who wronged him. And now he has stolen her, body and soul.

Can a woman plagued by mystery fall in love with the man who refuses to face the truth? And can a man drenched in darkness forgo his quest for vengeance-and finally find redemption?

  • After a Fashion

After a Fashion by Jen Turano

After a Fashion by Jen Turano is $1.99 at most vendors! This is the first book in the A Class of Their Own series, and is set in New York in the late 19th century. The conflicts are bountiful, too: crossing class boundaries, and pretend engagement to satisfy business arrangements. Readers who liked it say that the dialogue and banter are terrific – and the book has a 4-star average, too! (And gosh, the cover is gorgeous.)

Miss Harriet Peabody dreams of the day she can open up a shop selling refashioned gowns to independent working women like herself. Unfortunately, when an errand for her millinery shop job goes sadly awry due to a difficult customer, she finds herself out of an income.

Mr. Oliver Addleshaw is on the verge of his biggest business deal yet when he learns his potential partner prefers to deal with men who are settled down and wed. When Oliver witnesses his ex not-quite-fiance cause the hapless Harriet to lose her job, he tries to make it up to her by enlisting her help in making a good impression on his business partner.

Harriet quickly finds her love of fashion can’t make her fashionable. She’ll never truly fit into Oliver’s world, but just as she’s ready to call off the fake relationship, fancy dinners, and elegant balls, a threat from her past forces both Oliver and Harriet to discover that love can come in the most surprising packages.

I wanted to let you know about a new release by a debut author. It’s on sale for $.99 through Sunday. I got an ARC and I’m only a third of the way through it, but so far I can say that the writing is strong. It’s romantic suspense, with initially more focus on the suspense, as I’m not yet sure who the love interest is. From the press release:

Follow a young woman as she flees an abusive relationship for a fresh start in Dallas in “Becker Circle,” a new romantic suspense novel by debut author Addison Brae releasing March 14, 2018.

New Harvard degree. New CPA job. With so much to experience and a giant past to forget, it’s Gillian’s fresh start across the country in Dallas. Her sense of humor and best friend help her maintain her self-respect when most every jerk in the urban community hits on her. She never dreamed trying to meet new people could threaten her dignity and her life.

“Becker Circle” is published by Tirgearr Publishing ($5.99 ebook, 281 pages, ASIN B07B3HT15Y). A portion of the author proceeds will go to Hope’s Door New Beginning Center to help fight domestic abuse.

I’m a sucker for old skool Kinsale . . . bring it on! I forget how bonkers her plots as I get swept up in the writing, until I try to explain a plot to someone else, ” . . . So he has a stroke . . . but he’s still sexy and she’s a Quaker, yeah , like a Quaker Quaker but they have to get ready to outwit his evil grandmother . . . um.”

  3. Peggy says:

@Caroline – I’m with you! I haven’t read her in awhile but I do love me some old skool Kinsale (Flowers from the Storm, For My Lady’s Hear and Shadowheart are among my precious paper keepers for the impending EMP :-)). LOVE your description of Flowers From the Storm!

Re: Uncertain Magic – I enjoyed it (but I do own everything she’s written).

FYI: Amazon doesn’t show that the top-of-the-page-notice that I had already purchased Uncertain Magic. I had to look at my kindle – sheesh! 🙂

    Let me help you Amanda.

NO!! I mean it young lady. You one click that book and you will regret it. Now go outside and play.

  6. Marci says:

Samantha Bee’s I Know I Am, But What Are You? audiobook is on sale on Audible today for $3.95. I’m a huge fan of Bee and loved her on The Daily Show, but her own show Full Frontal is unmatchable. She is fierce, funny and has no time for bullshit. In these chaotic times, Bee is where I turn to find hopefulness and humor along with the female rage.

  7. Karenza says:

These Broken Stars was a DNF within the first 10 pages. The H is a 18 year old Major with medals won while fighting. I just couldn’t move past that … I did try but I felt slightly nauseous and my brain froze.

  8. Dorothea says:

A lot of Joanna Shupe on sale at Amazon today

  9. Jen says:

On the amazon site it says the Laura kinsale ebook is $1.99 but when you click on the title it then lists it at $6.99. Has any one tried to buy it?

  10. Judy W. says:

I didn’t much care for the heroine in After a Fashion. I remember she drove me nuts. Old skool Kinsale is always fun. I have not read the Ruin and Rule book but I recognize that authors name. She does some seriously dark stories so be aware.

  11. Visitingsmartie says:

One of my favourite Kinsale, up there with For my Ladys heart. I still don’t really know what actually happens in this book despite reading it 3 times, but the writing and characters are sublime and I loved the mystery and passion
