Broken Open by Lauren Dane is $1.99! This is a small town romance with a musician/rancher hero. Readers say this is a sexy read (as are most of Dane’s books) and the main characters have a lot of chemistry. However, some found the slow burn a little too slow for their liking. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Ice Blue
Ice Blue by Anne Stuart is $1.99! This is the third book in the Ice romantic suspense series. I read this series a while ago and remember enjoying it a lot. I like Stuart’s romantic suspense books better than her historical romances. However, I’m not sure how well these books have held up over time. Have any of you read them recently?

Never Deal with Dragons by Lorenda Christensen is 99c! This paranormal romance is the first in a series of the same name, and it has a second chance element. Readers enjoyed the world Christensen created, but others warn the hero is a bit of a jerk and that his grovel was insufficient.
Consoling a sobbing dragon and serving pig buffets are just part of the job for Myrna Banks. Working for a mediation firm, it’s her job to get humans compensated for damages caused by the dragons who now rule. But her “typical” day is interrupted by Trian Chobardan, an old flame who sneaked out of her bed two years ago, taking her heart and a handful of classified documents with him.
Myrna would love to show Trian the door, but he’s been sent by North America’s reigning dragon lord for help negotiating a truce with a powerful rival to avert war. Myrna agrees to help, even though she’ll be stuck with Trian as a partner.

Broken Open was my favorite of Dane’s Hurley Boys. I really liked that Ezra struggled with the consequences of his addiction. It wasn’t all “I did my 28 days and I’m never going to put you through that again Trust me,” healed and happy ever after.
Well, this was an expensive post – thanks to my weak will and surprisingly limited library options. On the other hand, if the apocalypse hits, I won’t have any problem with reading material!
I was reviewing my iBooks wish list just now and saw that Sarina Bowen’s Falling from the Sky is .99! Not sure if it’s matched at any other sites. The hero is a former Olympic snowboarder, while the heroine I believe is his rehab doctor.
Love Never Deal With Dragons and Falling From the Sky (thanks, Stefka!). FFTS could have gone badly wrong, but Bowen does an excellent job of making the characters real people. It’s actually the second book in the series, and I highly recommend the series as a whole but it can be read standalone.

I somehow missed Trouble, but I’m reading #2 in that series, Risk, now. The book descriptions are SUPER unhelpful (I was looking for something light and chose the book from the TBR with the happiest beautiful people on the cover and ended up with CAR CRASH ORPHAN), so maybe check reviews to glean better insight into intensity level.
I reread Anne Stuart’s Ice series recently, and I think they have held up okay for the most part. They feature heroes that may be considered lost bad-boys (or alternatively, deranged assholes if you met them IRL). And the plots are really are out there. These all involve a shadowy spy-type organization that is supposedly the “good guy,” but often expects its employees (usually our hero) to just ruthlessly kill off everyone including the innocent heroine. (But for some reason, in this one, when there is a threat to the heroine’s little sister, for some unknown reason the shadowy organization that had no problem with offing the heroine mobilizes its people from all over the globe to come save the sister. Go figure.) That said, I still enjoy them because … Anne Stuart. She’s been there for us forever!
Having just read book 2, Cold As Ice, of Anne Stuart’s Ice series, my feelings are that if one hasn’t read an Anne Stuart – try her. One of my favs of hers is The Soldier and the Baby. Very different from other suspense reads out there 😉 Don’t let the cheesy 80s cover fool you!
I find a great, good or even mediocre AS read will cleanse my reading brain…and that’s exactly what I love her stories for. Her characters are quirky, many assholes of the first quarter, but the banter between MCs never fails to lead you through the flow of the story. And there is always action, well plotted, well written. So even if you think her characters are unappealing, you’ll never be bored. If you become a fan, you will gladly suspend disbelief in just how handily opportunities arise to warp up all the angst in the end LOL
I haven’t read Takashi O’Brien’s book yet. He was introduced in book 2. I look forward to Ice Blue, as the series is shaping up to meet all my expectations. Glad to see you showcasing Anne Stuart! Love your blog #fangirl
