  • Labyrinth Lost

    Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Cordova

RECOMMENDED: Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova is $1.99! Sarah read this book a couple months ago and gave it a B grade:

Overall, I think this book contains a fabulous world with a terrific, galloping adventure through a vivid and wrenching underworld. While I was reading it, I had a hard time putting it down. But the story has most of its strength in the plot and the world-building than in the characters and their emotional development and consistency, and I missed those aspects even while I enjoyed the rest.

Nothing says Happy Birthday like summoning the spirits of your dead relatives.

I fall to my knees. Shattered glass, melted candles and the outline of scorched feathers are all that surround me. Every single person who was in my house – my entire family — is gone.

Alex is a bruja, the most powerful witch in a generation…and she hates magic. At her Deathday celebration, Alex performs a spell to rid herself of her power. But it backfires. Her whole family vanishes into thin air, leaving her alone with Nova, a brujo boy she can’t trust. A boy whose intentions are as dark as the strange markings on his skin.

The only way to get her family back is to travel with Nova to Los Lagos, a land in-between, as dark as Limbo and as strange as Wonderland…

Beautiful Creatures meets Daughter of Smoke and Bone with an infusion of Latin American tradition in this highly original fantasy adventure.

  • To Kiss a Thief

To Kiss a Thief by Susanna Craig

To Kiss a Thief by Susanna Craig is 99c! This was featured in August 2016 Hide You Wallet post, so it’s a pretty new release. Redheadedgirl said, “Second chance, arranged marriage, secrets and lies, basically full of catnips. All the catnips.” But reviews on Goodreads that the hero is a bit undeserving of the heroine.

Can a marriage made for money blossom into something more?

Sarah Sutliffe, Lady Fairfax, dreams of love—until she overhears her new husband proclaim his heart will never be hers. Devastated, she offers no defense when a sapphire necklace disappears during a ball and she is accused of its theft. Instead, she runs away from the scandal…and the heartbreak.

St. John, Viscount Fairfax, has sworn never to love again. How could a mousy merchant’s daughter tempt him to break that vow? Three years after Sarah vanished, St. John uncovers her hiding place. Now, he’s out to prove she’s a thief before she steals his heart.

  • Knit Tight

    Knit Tight by Annabeth Albert

RECOMMENDED: Knit Tight by Annabeth Albert is $1.99! This is the fourth book in the Portland Heat series and the other books are also on sale. Elyse loved this book, giving it an A:

I expected to like Knit Tight. I mean, the odds of me not liking a romance featuring a knitwear designer hero are slim. I just didn’t expect to love it as much as I did. It’s a short book — 112 pages — but those pages pack a lot of feels. One scene had me ugly sobbing.

It’s no secret that Portland, Oregon, has some of best restaurants, shops, and cafĂ©s in the country. But it’s the hard-working men who serve it all up that keep us coming back for more…

One of Portland’s hottest young baristas, Brady is famous for his java-topping flair, turning a regular cup of joe into a work of art. Every Wednesday—aka “Knit Night”—hordes of women and their needles descend on the coffeehouse, and Brady’s feeling the heat. Into the fray walks a tall, dark, and distractingly handsome stranger from New York. His name is Evren, and he’s the sexy nephew of Brady’s sweetest customer, the owner of the yarn shop down the street. He’s also got a killer smile, confident air, and masculine charm that’s tying Brady’s stomach in knots. The smitten barista can’t wait to see him at the next week’s gathering. But when he tries to ask Evren out, his plans unravel faster than an unfinished edge. If Brady hopes to warm up more than Evren’s coffee, he’ll have to find a way to untangle their feelings, get out of the friend zone, and form a close-knit bond that’s bound to last a lifetime…

  • The Sapphire Affair

The Sapphire Affair by Lauren Blakely

The Sapphire Affair by Lauren Blakely is $1.99! This is a romantic suspense that Elyse mentioned on July’s Hide Your Wallet as the start of a new series she was excited about. Many readers loved the mix of adventure and romance, while others said it takes a bit for the hero and heroine to initially meet. The sequel, following the same characters, is also on sale!

Bounty hunter Jake Harlowe knows how to track a criminal. So when a group of swindled shareholders hires him to trail their former CEO, Jake expects a quick trip to the Cayman Islands to close another case. Until a devastatingly beautiful woman gets in the way.

Steph Anderson is visiting the Caymans for a rock climbing and dive trip—or so she tells Jake. She’s really trying to find out whether or not her stepfather embezzled money from his company. The last thing Steph needs is the distraction of a sexy, charming man whose kisses drive her wild.

Soon, the pair discover they’re after the same target—and millions in jewels. While Jake can’t be certain Steph isn’t working for her stepfather, and Steph can’t be certain Jake isn’t after the diamonds for himself, they can agree the heat between them is intense, and neither can deny the passion for long.

But the morning after, Steph discovers that she just might have slept with the enemy, and now she’ll have to outwit him to get everything she needs…

  1. Nerdalisque says:

“Girl Waits with Gun” by Amy Stewart is a Kindle deal for $1.99. Has anybody read this? It sounds intriguing!

  2. SusanS says:

I read “Girl Waits With Gun” and was underwhelmed by it. Premise was more interesting than the execution. The story was very repetitive, the writing was pedestrian, and for a piece of historical fiction I don’t feel like I learned much about American life in 1914. I thought the sequel, “Lady Cop Makes Trouble” was much stronger. “Girl Waits With Gun” made a lot of “best of 2015” lists, so YMMV.

    I loved “Knit Tight.”

  4. CelineB says:

If you buy The Sapphire Affair, I would go ahead and buy the second book. They’re really just one book separated into two.

  5. Konst. says:

    Thumbs up for Knit Tight!
I just cliked-cliked-cliked the other parts on sale 🙂

  6. LML says:

I enjoyed Girl Waits with Gun; I found it a very original, although not particularly happy, story. I was surprised to learn -after I finished – that it is based on a real person and real events.

  7. BRNZ says:

@SusanS I agree, I found Girl Waits With Gun to be stodgy reading at best, and wouldn’t recommend it at all. YMMV indeed 🙂

  8. Ele says:

I picked up “To Kiss a Thief,” I’m about 1/3 through and doubt I’ll finish it. Hero has zero redeeming qualities so far, and the best that can be said about the heroine is that she is “nice” in a very unassertive way. Lots of standard stuff here: Evil stepmother, missing jewels, secret baby, big misunderstanding. You’d think all that would make it exciting, but no.
