  • Not Always a Saint

Not Always a Saint by Mary Jo Putney

Not Always a Saint by Mary Jo Putney is $1.99! This is also the most recent release in the Lost Lords series and was mentioned on a previous podcast. Many readers loved the hero and heroine separately, but found things lacking in their romance. Another Lost Lords historical romance is also on sale!

After the death of his sweetheart when he was at university, Daniel Herbert buried his grief in medical studies and his passion for healing. Viewed as a saint by those who know him, in his own mind, he never quite manages to live up to his own high standards.

Most men would be thrilled to learn they’ve inherited a title and estate from a distant relative, but Daniel is appalled because the burden of wealth will interfere with his medical calling. Warily he accepts that he must enter society and seek a wife—a sensible woman who can oversee his properties, leaving him free to continue his work. He does not expect to become intoxicated by a woman called the Black Widow, who is as mysterious as she is shockingly beautiful…

Jessie Kelham’s looks have always been a curse. Now alone with a young daughter and a perilous secret, she is in need of protection. But dangerously attractive Daniel Herbert is not the kind of husband she has in mind. If he recognizes her, the demons of her past will surely erupt. Yet they cannot keep apart—and soon they are drawn into a union that may bring joy—or shattering danger…

  • Frisk Me

    Frisk Me by Lauren Layne

RECOMMENDED: Frisk Me by Lauren Layne is 99c! I reviewed this book last year and I obviously enjoyed it, seeing as how I gave it an A grade:

I really loved this book. It’s a nice break from the insta-love/lust that I’ve been reading lately, and I appreciated that the romance was the payoff of the book, rather than it being the driving force to deal with outside, external issues. This is a slow romance, too. No wham, bam, thank you ma’ams here. And admittedly, I spent a good portion of the book grinning like an idiot on the subway. I’ll give it to Layne; she can write some great dialogue.

Officer Luc Moretti had no idea that his dive into the East River would have him drowning in a media frenzy. No matter how many times he tells reporters he was just doing his job, they’re determined to make him into NYC’s newest hero. Coming from a long line of NYPD’s finest, Luc knows that being a cop has nothing to do with headlines and viral videos, and he’s more than ready to get back to life away from the cameras-until he meets the gorgeous but jaded journalist assigned to film a TV special on him . . .

Ava Sims may be the only woman in NYC who isn’t in love with Officer Moretti. That’s why she’s going after the real story-to find out about the man behind the badge. Ava’s determined to keep things strictly professional, but the more time she spends around Luc, even she has to admit there’s something about a man in uniform . . . and she can’t wait to get him out of his.

  • The Sharing Knife: Beguilement

The Sharing Knife: Beguilement by Lois McMaster Bujold

The Sharing Knife: Beguilement by Lois McMaster Bujold is 99c at most vendors! However, at some other places, it’s on sale for $3.99, so just be forewarned. This is a fantasy romance and the first in a series; I know Bujold is a bit of  favorite around here. Some readers found the heroine a tad Mary Sue-ish, while others loved the growth of the characters and plot from beginning to end. It has a 3.7-star rating on Goodreads and I’ve unearthed an old 2007 review on the site! Better brush the dust off!

Troubled young Fawn Bluefield seeks a life beyond her family’s farm. But en route to the city, she encounters a patrol of Lakewalkers, nomadic soldier-sorcerers from the northern woodlands. Feared necromancers armed with mysterious knives made of human bone, they wage a secret, ongoing war against the scourge of the “malices,” immortal entities that draw the life out of their victims, enslaving human and animal alike.

It is Dag–a Lakewalker patroller weighed down by past sorrows and onerous present responsibilities–who must come to Fawn’s aid when she is taken captive by a malice. They prevail at a devastating cost–unexpectedly binding their fates as they embark upon a remarkable journey into danger and delight, prejudice and partnership . . . and perhaps even love.

  • On the Surface

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby

On the Surface by Kate Willoughby is 99c! This is a contemporary sports romance between a hockey player and a nurse. Many readers loved the premise, especially how the hero and heroine initially met, but mentioned some execution problems, like stilted dialogue. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

NHL player Tim Hollander lost his temper one time and threw a water bottle at an abusive fan. After “Bottlegate,” he’s traded to the San Diego Barracudas, where he’ll need to keep the bad publicity to a minimum while proving he can still compete with the younger guys on the ice.

Erin Collier is a pediatric nurse who’s never seen a hockey game, but gets in line for Tim’s autograph at a PR event in hopes of impressing the doctor she has a crush on. When an obnoxious fan gets pushy toward Erin, Tim rushes to defend the pretty stranger, throwing a punch in the process.

Grateful for the rescue, Erin agrees to stand by Tim during the resulting press conference and host him at a hospital charity event. Their chemistry is palpable, and soon their lives are intertwined. But Erin doubts a hockey player is capable of anything resembling a real relationship. And if Tim can’t get her to see beyond what’s on the surface, they’ll never last longer than a single season…

  1. That Beguilement review was my first introduction to LMB! (It’s possible she’d been rec’d in blog discussions, but that review made me perk up.) I waited for the whole series to be out in mmpb, then pounced. I’ve been hooked ever since!

  2. Nancy says:

The Hooker and the Hermit by L. H. Cosway and Penny Reid is currently 99 cents on Amazon for a short time in anticipation of the next Rugby Series book coming soon.

  3. Lora says:

Okay I’ve never read LMB and I think it’s TIME. /scrambles for debit card/

  4. Laura says:

Frisk Me was my first Lauren Layne; I have now binge read her entire backlist. 🙂

  5. Drewbird says:

FYI – one of our favorite Kleypas novels, Devil in Winter, is 4.99 right now on amazon… since it is usually 7.99 this is a decent deal!

  6. Lora says:

Bought the Beguilement yesterday. Read ALL night with no respect for work today. This book is so stinking good I feel stupid for not reading it sooner. I am in lurve, bitchery. Y’all are brilliant and I thank you for the recommendation.
