  • The Beautiful Ashes

The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost

The Beautiful Ashes by Jeaniene Frost is a Kindle Daily Deal for 99c! This is the first book in her new Broken Destiny series, which is a New Adult paranormal romance/urban fantasy. Some readers mentioned having some confusion as they weren’t sure if Frost was trying to write something similar to New Adult, young adult, or a straight adult urban fantasy. However, others thought the blend of action and suspense balanced well with the romantic aspects. I’m sure some Bitchery members have read this one. What do you think?

Sometimes, falling in love really is the end of the world… don’t miss this fan-favorite tale from New York Times bestselling author Jeaniene Frost.

Ivy has always seen things that she cannot explain. Strange things. Otherworldly things. But when her sister goes missing, Ivy discovers the truth is far worse–her hallucinations are real, and her sister is imprisoned in a realm beyond Ivy’s reach. The one person who can help her is the dangerously attractive rebel who’s bound by an ancient legacy to betray her.

The fate Adrian has fought to escape is here – but he never expected the burning need he feels for Ivy. With destiny on one side and desire on the other, Adrian must help Ivy search for the powerful relic that can save her sister. Yet he knows what Ivy doesn’t: the truth about her own destiny, and a war that could destroy the world. Sooner or later, it will be Ivy on one side, Adrian on the other, and nothing but ashes in between…

  • Romancing Mister Bridgerton

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn

Romancing Mister Bridgerton by Julia Quinn is $1.99! This is book four in the Bridgertons series, which is much loved around the Bitchery. Some readers advise reading the series in order for a richer experience, while others say you could jump into this as a standalone. It has a 4.2-star rating on Goodreads.

Penelope Featherington has secretly adored her best friend’s brother for . . . well, it feels like forever. After half a lifetime of watching Colin Bridgerton from afar, she thinks she knows everything about him, until she stumbles across his deepest secret . . . and fears she doesn’t know him at all.

Colin Bridgerton is tired of being thought nothing but an empty-headed charmer, tired of everyone’s preoccupation with the notorious gossip columnist Lady Whistledown, who can’t seem to publish an edition without mentioning him in the first paragraph.

But when Colin returns to London from a trip aboard, he discovers nothing in his life is quite the same, especially Penelope Featherington, the girl haunting his dreams!

And when he discovers that Penelope has secrets of her own, this elusive bachelor must decide . . . is she his biggest threat, or his promise of a happy ending?

  • Tremaine’s True Love

Tremaine’s True Love by Grace Burrowes

Tremaine’s True Love by Grace Burrowes is $1.99! This is the first book in her newest series and is on sale at Amazon and Barnes & Noble. A few readers found the romance a bit boring and slow, while others loved the characterization of the heroine and hero. Have you read this one?

Tremaine St. Michael is firmly in trade and seeks only to negotiate the sale of some fancy sheep with the Earl of Bellefonte.

The earl’s sister, Lady Nita, is pragmatic, hard-working, and selfless, though Tremaine senses she’s also tired of her charitable obligations and envious of her siblings’ marital bliss.

Tremaine, having been raised among shepherds, can spot another lonely soul, no matter how easily she fools her own family. Neither Tremaine nor Nita is looking for love, but love comes looking for them.

  • Her Officer and Gentleman

Her Officer and Gentleman by Karen Hawkins

Her Officer and Gentleman by Karen Hawkins is $2.99! And man, check out that cover. Normally when I do a Books on Sale post, I consult the Goodreads reviews and I feel like this line will determine whether or not you’re into this book: “She loses her virginity against a door.” If you happen to like Hawkins, several of her other books are on sale too!

    No ordinary highwayman…

A mere whisper of the name “Gentleman James” sends chills throughout the ton (and thrills the ladies who have heard rumors of his amorous exploits). But the dashing brigand never dreamed that the passing of the father he never knew would leave him with a title, a fortune…and a mission.

    No predictable lady…

Considered unmarriageable at twenty-five, Lady Elizabeth has the perfect life, happily snuggled among her beloved books while caring for her curmudgeonly grandfather. Or so she thinks until she meets Christian Llevanth, the dark and mysterious Viscount Westerville, and discovers the delicious ache of desire. Elizabeth finds herself longing for more — more romance, more excitement, and definitely more passion. But when does “more” become “too much”?

  1. Kim S. says:

*whispers “Gentleman James” alone in her office just to see what happens*
    *nothing happens*
    dammit

  2. Lostshadows says:

Anyone else worried that he’s about to fall off that horse?

  3. @Amanda says:

@Lostshadows: Not in the slightest. The hero looks like he has some strong thighs.

  4. Ren Benton says:

    @Kim S.

You have to whisper it three times in front of a mirror.

  5. Sarah S. says:

The Beautiful Ashes sounds interesting but you used the words “New Adult” which is something I detest with a passion. New Adult is basically an adult novel along all that crap I hated in high school.

  6. Colette says:

Agree with Sarah S. 100%. *shudder*

  7. AC says:

@Sarah S: LOL! That is the best (and most totally accurate) description of NA I’ve ever seen. I’m totally stealing it 😉 Thank you.

  8. L says:

I still don’t understand where the “New Adult” genre even came from. Like Sarah S said, New Adult is still adult. If you think about it, most of the historical romance could be considered New Adult as a majority of the heroines fall into the 18-25 age range and are having mind-blowing sex with bad boys.

  9. @Amanda says:

@L: I’ve done a lot of looking into this and I think my interview with Christina Lauren did a good job mentioning some differences in that adult romance vs new adult romance deals with characters who are in different stages of their lives. Granted, a lot of NA are misses for me rather than hits, but I think where the characters are at in terms of careers, emotional maturity, goals, relationships, etc. are where the two genres differ.

  10. KellyM says:

Jude Deveraux’s Velvet Montgomery Annuals Quadrilogy series is $1.99 per book on Amazon Kindle US right now. Velvet Promise, Highland Velvet, Velvet Song, and Velvet Angel.

  11. Mary Star says:

I love Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress books and its spin offs. I read the NA book wishing it was full on A. Well, maybe *T* and A.

  12. Tina says:

Julia Quinn’s An Offer From a Gentleman is also $1.99!

  13. cleo says:

I think Romancing Mr Bridgerton is less stand alone than the rest of the series because both the h/h are pretty present in previous books and there’s a big revel in RMB that has more impact if you’ve read at least sound of thd previous books.

  14. cleo says:

@Sarah S @L – I’m not a big NA fan, but I think what makes it different from historicals is the cultural expectation about when adulthood starts. Today we mostly consider 18-25 late adolescents rather than real adults. Some of that shift is because of new research on how and when the brain matures (the last part of the brain to mature doesn’t mature until 25 ish and that part controls impulse control among other things) and some of it is the economy making it much harder for young adults to be independent.

  15. The Bridgertons are my comfort reads, especially An Offer From A Gentleman and The Viscount Who Loved Me.

  16. Lizlovesbooks says:

God, I loathe NA. Whose brilliant idea was it and why so many authors I love insist on making their new series into NA. It’s down-right depressing and has made me stop buying books as often as I used to. Le sigh.

  17. Catherine B says:

I have a hard time reading NA as well. But it’s Jeanine Frost!!! I’ll give it a shot. But really, it should probably be dismissed for that cover alone 😉

  18. Mary Star says:

@Catherine B, the Frostness was what won me over as well to try it out. The cover helps not its case.
