Elyse: I really enjoyed this book (hence the one day read) mostly because it focuses on a period in time I find really interesting and have read a lot about, but also because it stars a woman who wasn’t well-known to history.

Getaway Girl by Tessa Bailey is 99c! This is a standalone contemporary romance and one that I’m excited about because I absolutely love Charleston, SC. It’s sitting on my Kindle as we speak! Some readers were conflicted about the fact that the hero was indeed ready to marry his fiance before everything went tits up. But I also recommend Bailey for people who love hot sex scenes and dirty talking.
The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic by Emily Croy Barker is $1.99! This book was the subject of a solved HaBO from yesterday. I highly recommend checking out the HaBO because the request is totally bananas. So bananas that you just might have to read it.
RECOMMENDED: Warrior by Zoe Archer is $1.99! This is the first book in the Blades of the Rose series and I devoured these books. This one was adventurous and fun, plus had a bit of a gruff hero. However, I’m unsure about how well these have held up in the last eight years.

RECOMMENDED: The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemisin is $2.99! Elyse loved this book and gave it an A:
The Fifth Season is also a relatively quick read. It opens with a cataclysmic disaster and doesn’t slow down its pace. Its characters travel widely. My only word of warning is that the book ends on a massive cliffhanger. Fortunately the sequel, The Obelisk Gate, will be released in August. After finishing this book I’m making desperate grabby hands for the next one.
If you like immersive, action-driven fantasy and if you want a fantasy world that’s not Euro-centric–or if you just love a really, really good story–I cannot recommend The Fifth Season enough.
RECOMMENDED: The Black Lily by Juliette Cross is 99c! Despite the nips-on-display cover, I really enjoyed this book. Vampires are the ruling class and the heroine is the leader of a human uprising. She first meets the vampire prince hero when she infiltrates a masked ball and tries to assassinate him. It’s Cinderella-esque. The next book is a take on Red Riding Hood and I’m super excited about it.
RECOMMENDED: The Blades of the Rose bundle by Zoe Archer is $2.99 at select vendors! The bundle is four books with lots of adventuring in a historical setting and some steampunk elements. I really enjoyed this series, though I think Warrior might be my favorite. Any other fans of the series in the Bitchery?
Sleeping Giants by Sylvain Neuvel is $1.99! I’ve been seeing and hearing things about this book everywhere! It’s a new scifi novel with a female protagonist. Readers say that though this scifi is a little darker and less “feel good,” the loved it. However, some felt a bulk of the book was just setup and information dumping for the next book. It has a 3.8-star rating on Goodreads.
