The shortcoming in this book seems to be the hero, whose redemption arc and groveling don’t seem to meet expectations. However, others loved the heroine’s tenacity and persistence in the face of some awful things.

Goddess with a Blade by Lauren Dane is $2.99! This is an urban fantasy novel with an ass-kicking heroine and vampires. Readers complain that it’s slow to start, which I think is a common problem with any first book in a new UF series. Many, though, loved the heroine and thought she had a great blend of humor, badassery, and sexiness.

Lord Holt Takes a Bride by Vivienne Lorret is $1.99! This is the first book in The Mating Habits of Scoundrels series. I’m super curious about this one because it seems to take the kidnapping trope and flip it; the heroine’s friends kidnap the hero and it seems the heroine has to smooth things over. Every Last Breath by Juno Rushdan is $1.99! This is the first book in the Final Hour romantic suspense series. I enjoyed the action in this one, but there are a lot of moving parts. I also want to warn readers that this deals with the heroine miscarrying which leads to her having an awful breakdown. It’s off the page but recalled in detail.

Fortune’s Pawn by Rachel Bach is $2.99! Catch this one as part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is a scifi novel with some strong romantic elements and, in the past, I’ve heard it described as Kate Daniels in space. Many people loved this book and its worldbuilding, though there are a few reviewers who said they never connected with any of the characters.
