  • The Duke Buys a Bride

The Duke Buys a Bride by Sophie Jordan

The Duke Buys a Bride by Sophie Jordan is $1.99! This is book three in The Rogue Files series. The shortcoming in this book seems to be the hero, whose redemption arc and groveling don’t seem to meet expectations. However, others loved the heroine’s tenacity and persistence in the face of some awful things.

    A bride wasn’t in his plans . . .

The last thing Marcus, the Duke of Autenberry, expects to see after sleeping off a night’s drunken shenanigans is a woman being auctioned in the village square. Before he can think about the ramifications, he buys her, thinking he’s winning the girl her freedom. Instead, he discovers he’s bought a wife.

    A duke wasn’t in hers . . .

Alyse Bell is almost rid of the shackles that bound her in a name-only marriage, but the day her friend promised to purchase her in a wife auction, he vanishes, leaving her to face a mob of unsavory bachelors intent on owning her body and soul. But the appearance of a wicked, wealthy stranger changes her path forever.

    The road to ruin . . .

Marcus doesn’t know what to do with the impertinent chit who clearly isn’t duchess material! Insisting their marriage isn’t legitimate, they leave for his estate in Scotland, hoping to devise a plan to get rid of each other. However, on a journey fraught with misadventure, their attraction grows and Marcus realizes he’ll do anything to keep this fiery woman for his own.

  • The Book on Pie

The Book on Pie by Erin Jeanne McDowell

The Book on Pie by Erin Jeanne McDowell is $1.99! This is the cookbook I used to make my apple butterscotch pie and it was so good! McDowell also just had a savory baking book come out in October.

Look no further than The Book on Pie for the only book on pie you’ll ever want or need.

Erin Jeanne McDowell, New York Times contributing baker extraordinaire and top food stylist, wrote the book on pie, a comprehensive handbook that distills all you’ll ever need to know for making perfect pies. The Book on Pie starts with the basics, including ways to mix pie dough for extra flaky crusts, storage and freezing, recipe size conversions, and expert tips for decorating and styling, before diving into the recipes for all the different kinds of pies: fruit, custard, cream, chiffon, cold set, savory, and mini. Find everything from classics like Apple Pie and Pumpkin Pie, to more inspired recipes like Birthday-Cake Pie and Caramel Pork Pie with Chile and Scallions.

Erin also suggests recommended pie doughs and toppings with each recipe for infinitely customizable pies: Mix and match Pumpkin Spice Pie Dough and Dark Chocolate Drippy Glaze with the Pumpkin Pie, or sub in the Chive Compound-Butter Crust for the Croque Madame Pielets . . . the possibilities are endless. With helpful tips, photographic guides, and inspirations—pie-deas—it’s almost like having Erin in the kitchen baking pies with you.

  • The Bachelor Bargain

The Bachelor Bargain by Maddison Michaels

The Bachelor Bargain by Maddison Michaels is 99c! This is book one in the Secrets, Scandals, and Spies series. I’m very curious about this one and it’s sitting at a 4.1-star rating on Goodreads right now. May buy it for myself!

Bachelors, beware. For those who keep secrets and prey on the innocent, you will be exposed, with all your dirty little secrets laid bare to one and all. You have been warned…

Lady Olivia Haliford has had enough. Tired of seeing women lose their reputations, futures, and sometimes even their lives to scandal while the men walk free, she is ready to take back power and stand up for women everywhere. Along with her two closest friends, she plans to start an anonymous publication dedicated to dishing the dirt and exposing the secrets of society’s most eligible bachelors. But in order to do so, she will have to make a deal with the devil…

Sebastian Colver, known as the Bastard of Baker Street, is feared throughout London as the city’s most notorious gambling den owner and undisputed king of the underground. His life is nothing but darkness and danger, so he is shocked when the petite lady gracing his doorstep seems anything but frightened of him. He agrees to be a silent partner in the publishing of the Gazette if she will use her connections to sponsor his sister and launch her into Society and away from his dark world.

But exposing the secrets of the rich and powerful can be dangerous. Almost as dangerous as a lady falling in love with the king of the underground.

  • The Falconer

    The Falconer by Elizabeth May

The Falconer by Elizabeth May is 99c! This is YA with a historical/steampunk bent. There also seem to be faeries. This is the first book in a trilogy and readers warn that there is a cliffhanger. The heroine was a high point for many readers, though some warn of a love triangle. So there’s some catnip in there and some repellant as well.

One girl’s nightmare is this girl’s faery tale

    She’s a stunner.
Edinburgh, 1844. Eighteen-year-old Lady Aileana Kameron, the only daughter of the Marquess of Douglas, has everything a girl could dream of: brains, charm, wealth, a title—and drop-dead beauty.

    She’s a liar.
But Aileana only looks the part of an aristocratic young lady. she’s leading a double life: She has a rare ability to sense the sìthíchean—the faery race obsessed with slaughtering humans—and, with the aid of a mysterious mentor, has spent the year since her mother died learning how to kill them.

    She’s a murderer.
Now Aileana is dedicated to slaying the fae before they take innocent lives. With her knack for inventing ingenious tools and weapons—from flying machines to detonators to lightning pistols—ruthless Aileana has one goal: Destroy the faery who destroyed her mother.

    She’s a Falconer.
The last in a line of female warriors born with a gift for hunting and killing the fae, Aileana is the sole hope of preventing a powerful faery population from massacring all of humanity. Suddenly, her quest is a lot more complicated. She still longs to avenge her mother’s murder—but she’ll have to save the world first.

The first volume of a trilogy from an exciting new voice in young adult fantasy, this electrifying thriller combines romance and action, steampunk technology and Scottish lore in a deliciously addictive read.

Taryn Quinn’s limited time box set of their first ten (!) stories in their babies-are-in-the-water Crescent Cove series Baby’s First Christmas is current zero pennies. It’s a fun/ny premise and well executed.

Saint by Sierra Simone is free but only on Kobo. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book on sale at Kobo that wasn’t also on sale everywhere, at least not from a well-known author.

@squee-me: SAINT was my favorite book of 2021. It’s an erotic romance with a very strong spiritual element or a spiritual romance with a very strong erotic element, depending on your point of view. It helps if you’ve already read PRIEST and SINNER because characters and themes do recur through the three books (the heroes of the three books are brothers).
