I recommend this for fans of Farscape, Firefly, complicated relationships, and cooking shows. If found family and food are your thing, you will like this book, although please be aware that the lighthearted tone takes a temporary swivel into scary and sad when the pirates get involved.
I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.
This Earl of Mine by Kate Bateman is $2.99! This is the first book in a rather new historical romance series. I gave this one a B-, because while the leads were great together, there were a lot of other distracting plot threads. Elyse loved the second one and I would definitely recommend the series, despite my quibbles.
RECOMMENDED: The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan is $2.49! This is a KDD and I know many of you have been waiting for this to go on sale! Catherine gave this a squee grade:
The Duke Who Didn’t was always going to be a book that made me happy. Humour, food, and a gentle hero who just wants the heroine to be less stressed are a pretty good formula for getting onto my keeper shelf.
RECOMMENDED: A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn is $2.99! The latest book out now and it’s a good time to start this series., especially since many of the books are also on sale. This is a historical mystery and Sarah really enjoyed it. Here’s what she said:
I read A Curious Beginning with an I-cannot-put-this-down enthusiasm and devoured it very quickly. I relished both the characters and the mystery. The Veronica Speedwell series is excellent and intelligent fun, and while the second isn’t quite as satisfying as the first, I heartily recommend them both.
Just Like This by Cole McCade is $1.99! This is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, and features an opposites attract romance between two teachers. This is the second book in the Albin Academy series, but I think it would work fine on its own. Correct me if I’m wrong!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED: Network Effect by Martha Wells is $2.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal, so grab it while you can. This is the first full-length Murderbot novel, which Sarah reviewed. Sarah also has these glowing things to say:
I cannot encourage you more vociferously to grab this on sale, and read the series (possibly more than once). It, no exaggeration, got me through 2020, it is the series I find comfort in, and I cannot recommend it with more affection. Please do not miss out on this sale.
RECOMMENDED: The Chocolate Touch by Laura Florand is $2.99! This contemporary romance was a Sizzling Book Club pick in September 2013. For many, Florand is an auto-buy author and the descriptions of chocolate were downright dangerous. A few readers felt that some scenes dialed up the angst too high, but the book maintains a 4-star rating on GoodReads.
RECOMMENDED: How Long ’til Black Future Month by N.K. Jemisin is $2.99! This is part of today’s awesome selection of Kindle Daily Deals and I wanted to be sure and highlight it. Carrie gave this an A grade in a Lightning Review. You really can’t go wrong with Jemisin.
RECOMMENDED: A Hope Divided by Alyssa Cole is $2.99 at select vendors! This is book two in the Loyal League series. Redheadedgirl gave it an A grade:
Cole’s books are always timely, and yet timeless. She has a solid grounding of how to use history in her plots, and knows exactly what story she wants to tell. I could not put this down…
How to Cross a Marquess by Jane Ashford is $1.99! This one is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals, so get it while you can. This seems to have a lot of catnip: enemies to lovers, meddling family, childhood history, neighbors. However, the book description is rather sparse and I wish there were more explanation on the central conflict.
