If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), and we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading April 2022 New Releases, Part One →
Dragon Unleashed by Grace Draven is $1.99! This is the second in the Fallen Empire series and I gave it a B-. You can read my review here. My general thoughts are Draven’s world building is lovely, but wow there is a lot of sexual violence or threats thereof. The main villain is also a hyper-sexual woman, which gives me pause.

RECOMMENDED: Uprooted by Naomi Novik is $2.99! A lot of people have recommended this book and Novik’s writing, but some readers did mention on Goodreads that the book is a bit slow at times. Do you love Novik’s writing? What did you think of this one?

After Poppy’s beautiful “That Moment When…” post, we desperately wanted to have her and her artwork back! Poppy is a long-time fan of SBTB and loves cats, books and coffee, in that order. She illustrates The Loo Cats, an imaginative series starring her rescue cats in the most fantastical, improbable scenarios. The series is an ode to four spunky felines who survived abuse and abandonment before they found their forever home. Now they are elderly … Continue reading Guest Post: A Handy Guide for Choosing Your Institute of Magical Education →
Welcome to Lit Wicks! This is where we pair an author’s backlist or book theme with candles to really immerse yourself in the reading experience. All of the candles featured in these post are from Etsy, which means there is often worldwide shipping and that you’re supporting independent crafters and sellers. The Etsy candle rabbit hole is one I have gone down many times. This month, we’re diving into some urban fantasy books that we’ve … Continue reading Lit Wicks: Urban Fantasy →

I finished this book and thought to myself, “What the hell just happened?” The answer: A LOT. A lot happens in this book. There is so much that if I attempted to recap it, even with the broadest of summaries, the text would be miles wide and tens of thousands of words long. The plot starts, throttles up to “I can’t comfortably open my eyes” speed and doesn’t stop until the end, with one or … Continue reading Lies Sleeping by Ben Aaronovitch →
Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch is $1.99! This is the first book in an urban fantasy series set in London. Sarah did a review of the first three books in the series that she was reading along with her husband:
As a reader who loves immersive deep dives into different aspects of various cultures, and who loves puzzles and language, this is a lot of my catnip.

First, a note: this is more of a review of the series, but the books therein need to be read in order so I shall start here. Second, I will avoid spoilers as much as possible, focusing mostly on what I like, what I find bothersome, and whether I recommend the book and the series. The grade above is both for this book and the series as a whole – lucky for me they line … Continue reading Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovich →
Stormy Persuasion by Johanna Lindsey is $1.99 at Amazon! There’s no price-matching and I don’t think this is a Kindle Daily Deal. Readers loved the opposites attract element of this historical romance, while others found the plot to be a little all over the place.

RECOMMENDED: Instant Attraction by Jill Shalvis is $1.99! Sarah has recommended this book countless times:
I love the heroine, the hero, the setting, the snowboarding – this is one of those books where, if you ask me about it, my eyes roll back in my head and I make zombie-esque Good Book Noise®.
