If you’re new to Hide Your Wallet, this is where we list new releases we’re pretty excited for in the coming month. Each reviewer has a book maximum (five per person), but we’ve separated HYW into two parts. The first HYW of the month will cover books that release from the 1st to the 14th. The second HYW will cover books released from the 15th to the end of the month. We also think this … Continue reading July 2021 New Releases, Part Two →

I very much enjoyed Compass Rose. This is not a shock, since the book features lesbian pirates and giant squid and thus has “Carrie Bait” written all over it. However, I did not find the end to be entirely satisfying and I had a heck of a time keeping up with the plot. The heroine, Compass Rose (yes, that’s her name) never gets lost, but I got lost in this plot all the dang time. … Continue reading Compass Rose by Anna Burke →
Content warnings: recent death of alcoholic parent, several references to euthanizing shelter animals I’ve enjoyed all three of Anna Burke’s books so far, which take place in settings where I would last for no longer than a week, if I’m being generous. In order, they are: A dystopian climate fiction with lesbian pirates and terrifying giant squids A lyrical, dark f/f reinterpretation of Beauty and the Beast A super-queer Robin Hood retelling, which was also … Continue reading Spindrift by Anna Burke →
RECOMMENDED: All Systems Red by Martha Wells is $1.99! I think everyone at SBTB HQ who has read these books has absolutely loved them, myself included. Tor recently had all four novellas for free through their newsletter, but if you missed those, $1.99 is not a bad entry fee.

CW: self-harm, threat of sexual violence, passing reference to possible actual sexual violence against a young girl Have you ever said to yourself “I want to read a Robin Hood story, but full of lesbians and other queer people?” Well, good news! Because that’s exactly what Nottingham is! I couldn’t have come up with a more joyfully queer interpretation of it if I’d tried. That said, it’s specifically the queer rep that’s joyful and not … Continue reading Nottingham by Anna Burke →
In case you missed it: I know last Hide Your Wallet we instituted some changes. Well now we have more, thanks to the comment left by Katie C. A lot of you expressed wanting to keep the wide breadth of new releases and Katie’s suggestion was pretty great. We’re still keeping our book maximums (five per person), but have added an extra HYW post per month, allowing another five books per person. The first HYW … Continue reading January’s New Releases, Part Two →
Thorn by Anna Burke is $2.99 at Amazon! This is a lesbian romance retelling of Beauty and the Beast Hello! Tara recommended it in our Slack and Maya picked it up and mentioned it in Saturday’s Whatcha Reading. F/F romances seem to rarely go on sale, so grab this one while you can.
