Oh, Hey, It’s Prime Day

Ahoy, there, mateys! It be Prime Day, where in Ages Past we’ve scoured the Amazon site to find…strange bargains on things like 40 gallon drums of industrial lube. Could this year be different? Avast, let us see.

(Arrrrrrgh. Yes, I know it’s not Talk Like a Pirate Day but I have to spice up the continued, unending Quarantimes in small and silly ways, you know?)

A number of the Prime Day deals are limited in quantity and time, so I won’t link to them if I can avoid it; finding out that set of tractor tires at 65% off is sold out and there’s no waitlist available is a massive bummer! Let’s check out what I’ve noticed.

NB: the links herein may be affiliate coded, which means a small percentage of your purchase comes back to us at not extra cost to you. If you use our links, thank you very much!

Instant Pots!

Instant Pot multicookers are always good to check out during online sales; I use mine constantly, and have a cookbook recommendation to go with the current Prime Instant Pots.

There are four Instant Pots listed as part of Prime Day, including the Instant Pot Duo Pressure Cooker and Air Fryeror, as I think of it, The Instant Pot with the Fryer Hat.

Product Instant Pot with Air Fryer attachment
Instant Pot Duo with Air Fryer, $119.99

And at a lower price point: the Instant Pot 3-quart Multicooker is $49.99, 58% off!

If you’re wondering about the smaller 3 quart size and its usefulness, Claudia says, “I don’t have this exact model but I use my IP mini about as much as I use the bigger size. Worth a buy at this price if you have the cupboard space. I usually make grains and side veggies in mine.”

Product Instant Pot 3 Qt Multicooker
Instant Pot Ultra 3 QT Multicooker, $49.99

And, for cooking in the instant pot or other multicookers, I use the America’s Test Kitchen Multicooker Perfection Cookbook all the timeI particularly like the risotto recipe, which I use at least once a month. This week we’re trying the farro and mushroom stew, so I’ll report back how it goes.

Speaking of Food: Storage!

Rubbermaid Brilliance food storage assortment 12 containers of four sizes with lids
Rubbermaid Brilliance 24-piece plastic food storage set, $27.99 (30% off)

I have this set and use it constantly. The largest size is perfect for the double batches of soup or meatballs and marinara, and stack nicely in the freezer, too. The little ones we use for hummus or sauce when we (used to) pack lunches.  (Remember eating outside the house? Now I cook tons of food and freeze half for Future Sarah, Who Is Probably Tired.) This set gets an enthusiastic recommendation from me.

Elyse has some recs, too!

Elyse: “This is my go to crafting lamp.”

Verilux SmartLight Natural LED Desk Lamp with USB Charging Port
Verilux SmartLight Natural Light LED Desk Lamp with USB Charging Port, $39.99 (20% off)

Sarah: I have a similar light, an earlier model, that I use for cross stitching (and giving myself a manicure) and it makes such a difference.

Elyse: They also have a portable light therapy lamp.

Verilux portable Light Therapy lamp
Verilux Portable Light Therapy Lamp, $23.39 (41% 0ff!)

Claudia: “I love love this hair dryer, it’s so light and fast. 30% off!”

RUSK W8less hair dryer 2000 watt
RUSK W8less 2000 Watt Hair Dryer, $55.97 (30% off)

Sarah: And of course, there are Kindle reader deals:

Product Kindle Paperwhite
Kindle Paperwhite, 8GB, With Ads, $79.99 (38% off)

And the Oasis is on sale! This is the reader I use most often, though when I reviewed it three years ago, I said at the time that the price was ridiculous and for that many dollars it should make me breakfast every day. It’s 30% off for Prime Day today and tomorrow, though, if you’ve been on the fence!

Kindle oasis, ad supported
Kindle Oasis, Ad Supported, 8GB, $174.99 (30% off)

So those are a few of the deals we’ve spotted.

What about you? What Prime Day deals have you grabbed or bookmarked for tomorrow, maybe?

  1. Cathy says:

I second the recommendation for the Rubbermaid Brilliance containers. I use the 1.3 cup size for my loose teas. Each one holds a 4 oz bag of tea from Adagio. They stack so compactly and are truly airtight, unlike some other options I tried.

  2. SB Sarah says:

@Cathy – oh that’s so smart! They are indeed airtight and stack very well, but using them for loose tea is really smart. Thank you!

  3. Escapeologist says:

“Freeze those leftovers for Future Me, Who Is Probably Tired” oh hi, this is my life too

  4. Meredith says:

I tried the Oasis and returned it for a Paperwhite. I found it too cold and slippery to hold.

  5. Susan says:

@Meredith: I am a Kindle Killer so have to replace my devices with some frequency. When my last Paperwhite succumbed to its fate, I replaced it with an Oasis. There are some things I like better about the Oasis, but I do not like how it feels in the hand. At all. I’ll have to give serious thought to the pros/cons of the repacememt device when the Oasis kicks it.

  6. SB Sarah says:

I agree it is a slippy device. I’m shopping for skins to give it some tactile grip, as a few folks have recommended to me. It’s pretty slick and not in a good way!

  7. Hera says:

I’ve had an Oasis for a while, since they stopped making the Voyage (which was a slightly better version of the Paperwhite, with buttons) and I want to try to move out of the Amazon infrastructure. My Oasis is so slow, so laggy, and so ungainly that my hands end up hurting. I had a pop socket on it for a while which was really helpful, but I couldn’t get it to stick. I just got the Kobo h20 Libra today, which I really like the feel of. . . but have not yet managed to get a book on 🙂

  8. Kerri says:

The thing I’m most excited about is a MooSoo cordless stick vacuum, got it on lightening deal for $50 off! Shopping around paid off again. Last year got a great deal on my sons gaming laptop and that help teach him instant gratification isn’t always best, he waited a couple weeks got a much better computer hen he would have graduation day! Shop on!

  9. Susan1326 says:

That hair dryer is the best! So lightweight!

  10. Hannah says:

@Hera, I want to try the Kobo h20 Libra as well to reduce my dependence on the Kindle ecosystem/ Amazon. I really prefer physical page turn buttons, and that appeals to me about the Kobo. Plus I like that it comes in white! (Don’t ask me how much I already spent on Prime Day, though, sigh! I bought some athleisure for myself and and my kids and we bought a couple of Blink cameras for our home, for starters.) Anyhow, I find it a lot easier to send books from the Kobo store to my Kindle account than the other way around, so I can still use my 3 year old Paperwhite until it dies!

  11. Sue C says:

I know this is like an anti-Prime Day comment but since we are talking about Kindle vs non-Kindle options: I also didn’t want to get a Kindle, and have really loved my Kobo Clara. I used to have a B&N nook but it went kaput a couple years ago. The Kobo Clara has direct link to Overdrive, so it syncs my library books automatically! I can’t recall if you can browse form the Kobo, but what I do is look up the book in my Libby, borrow via Libby (I find the Libby app more user-friendly than Overdrive app), and then open my Kobo to sync, to actually read.

  12. Susan says:

@Hera: I really liked the Voyage but mine didn’t last very long and I think the storage capacity wasn’t all that great. (One of my problems is that I tend to have too many downloaded books on my devices.)

The pop socket (and other phone loop gadgets) have been recommended to me but I haven’t gotten around to trying it out yet. Sorry to hear it didn’t work out for you. It seems like it would make the device too cumbersome anyway. I like to be able to slip it in a pocket in my purse or under my pillow and don’t want some big knob sticking out.

@SB Sarah: I’d be interested in hearing how the skin worked out if you go that route.
