RECOMMENDED: Nuts by Alice Clayton is $1.99! This is a Kindle Daily Deal and only available on Amazon right now. Clayton’s books are rarely discounted, so grab this while you can! This is the first book in the Hudson Valley series and I really love this series. It’s funny and sexy and has so many delicious foodie elements. It’s over the top and I love the heroine, though I’ll admit the circumstances that send her back to her hometown are a little silly.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year: IT IS AWARDS SEASON Y’ALL. And the movies that get released in the next month are the Oscar hopefuls, some of which are gonna be great and some of which are gonna be, “Well, you tried.” This season, there’s a bunch of Black stories that I’m looking forward to, and one of these is Denzel Washington’s adaptation of August Wilson’s play (with a screenplay also written by … Continue reading Movie Review: Fences→
Happy 2017! While I celebrated the new year surrounded by new friends, good food, and a bit of love, I was also pretty sick. The sickness, nearly two weeks later, is still holding on and I’m onto the mucous-laden stage, where a glob will surprise me mid-sentence. So I’m being selfish and making a hot, alcoholic drink with all sorts of goodies to soothe my throat and keep me warm! As a side note, I’m … Continue reading Covers & Cocktails: Frost’s Thaw→
This week, we have a longer-than-usual, in person conversation with author Alisha Rai! Yup, a live recording, and of course we start by talking about my “professionalism” as a podcaster. Over brownies and tea, we discuss sexxytimes romance, her new series with Avon, and how reading and writing romance informs and influences her dating life – because sometimes you meet people who you *know* you’ve read before. She talks about the pressure on women to … Continue reading 229. Romance, Dating, and Very Real Expectations: An Interview with Alisha Rai→
Everywhere and Every Way by Jennifer Probst is $1.99! This is the first book in the Billionaire Builders series and features a renovation romance. Readers loved how the hero and heroine started out with an antagonistic relationship, while others found it to be slow in getting to the romance. If you take advantage of this sale, I made a cocktail to go along with the book!
This particular Rec League request came to use from not one, but two readers who wanted some forced proximity romances on account of bad weather. Bonus points for snowed in plots with cozy cabins. Here are the requests: From Reader Emily: This is quite a specific request, but could you recommend some books that involve scenes where the two main characters are stuck in a cabin or inn together, either due to inclement weather or … Continue reading The Rec League: Inclement Weather & Forced Proximity→
We Are Unprepared by Meg Little Reilly is a ecological thriller about a series of unprecedented storms that hammer the east coast of the United States. It’s chilling in the fact that it feels very real and very possible. I loved the suspense elements of this book, the fact that it’s “pulled from the headlines” so to speak, but I struggled to like any of the main characters. I think this is a perfect book … Continue reading We Are Unprepared by Meg Little Reilly→

Baron by Joanna Shupe is 99c! This is the second book in the Knickerbocker Club series, which Redheadedgirl really enjoyed. Readers really liked the con artist heroine, but found that Baron wasn’t as good as the first book, Magnate. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads. Any fans of the series out there?
Ursula K. Le Guin is one of the most influential writers of science fiction and fantasy in the world. She’s been publishing since the 1960s and is still going strong. I grew up on Le Guin. My mom read the Earthsea books to me when I was a kid recovering from surgery in the hospital, and after that same surgery I tried to read The Eye of the Heron , The Dispossessed , and The Left Hand … Continue reading Words Are My Matter by Ursula K. Ursula K. Le Guin is a writer who truly changed the world. Starting in the late 1960s, she created fantasy outside of the usual white male-dominated stories, pushing the genre through the years to be more diverse and more feminist. Her stories challenge concepts about gender, and her public activism has focused on human rights, a healthy environment, a free and thriving press and arts, and egalitarianism. Getting started with a writer like Le Guin … Continue reading Reading Le Guin→
