RECOMMENDED: The Perils of Pleasure by Julie Anne Long is $2.99 right now at most vendors. This is the first Pennyroyal Green book, which is a much-loved bestselling historical series. It’s a mix of small town romance set in the Regency but outside of London, and the two rival families and the setting make for some terrific reading. This book has a 3.7 star average on GR, and the series gets better and better with each book.
Wild is, hands down, for me, the best movie of 2014. It’s profound, filled with complex, interesting female characters, and two incredible performances that got well-deserved Academy Award nominations. Everyone knows that its true that I have no heart and no soul, and I was crying so much at the end of the movie I didn’t really want to leave the theater until I had more control over myself. (Reaction to that news from Ppyajunebug … Continue reading Movie review: Wild→
Sarah interviews Amanda about her love of sports romance. They discuss sports contemporary romance, fluorescent lightbulbs, and make many, many recommendations. Our apologies in advance.
Sweet Dreams by Kristen Ashley is 99c! That’s right, less than a dollar! This is a contemporary romance and the second book in the Colorado Mountain series. The heroine moves to a small Colorado town for a fresh start after her husband is caught cheating. Readers adored the hero, Tate, and his transition from grizzled ex-cop to considerate protector. A few reviews on GoodReads also mentioned that Ashley’s writing style took some time to get used it. Sweet Dreams has a 4.4-star rating on GoodReads.

Trigger warning for rape, rape jokes, trolls, rape joking trolls, and general asshattery. The most recent episode of This American Life, a Chicago Public Radio program, has blown my mind so much, I think my brain is six sizes larger for having listened to it. Episode 545. If you don’t have anything nice to say, SAY IT IN ALL CAPS is worth listening to, I think, though again, trigger warnings like whoa. First, writer Lindy … Continue reading This American Life on Trolls→
Next of Kin by Sharon Sala is $2.99! This romantic suspense is book one in the Rebel Ridge series. The heroine is in the witness protection program, but after being discovered by the people from which she’s supposed to be hiding, she heads home to backwoods of Kentucky for safety. Many readers caution that it’s heavy on the suspense and a little lighter on the romance, but others loved the fact that the hero & heroine were childhood sweethearts, which I’m sure is catnip for some. It has a 3.9-star rating on GoodReads.

RECOMMENDED: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder is $3.99 at Amazon and Google Play (seriously, are those price matching fairies in a battle until the end of time?). Amanda recommends this book vigorously, saying she loved it so much she’s bummed it’s not matched at more vendors.
This book has a 4+ star average, and is the first book in the Poison series. It’s a mix of fantasy, adventure and mystery, and readers who loved it connected instantly with the heroine, Yelena.
So apparently, in addition to being the Knitter in Residence here at SBTB, I am also the the aquatic romance reviewer. When Amanda sent me a book about a mermaid stripper, you know I had to read that, right? It’s as crazy-sauce as I could have hoped. The book is about Aazuria, a mermaid princess who lived in an undersea ice palace and who is now destitute after her murdering her dad. To be fair, her … Continue reading Drowning Mermaids by Nadia Scrieva→
