Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons)

Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons) by Quenby Olson is $2.49 and a Kindle Daily Deal! I mentioned this on a previous Get Rec’d after I saw several of our community members talking about it in the comments and I always try to highlight books our readers have enjoyed.
Miss Mildred Percy inherits a dragon.
Ah, but we’ve already got ahead of ourselves…
Miss Mildred Percy is a spinster. She does not dance, she has long stopped dreaming, and she certainly does not have adventures. That is, until her great uncle has the audacity to leave her an inheritance, one that includes a dragon’s egg.
The egg – as eggs are wont to do – decides to hatch, and Miss Mildred Percy is suddenly thrust out of the role of “spinster and general wallflower” and into the unprecedented position of “spinster and keeper of dragons.”
But England has not seen a dragon since… well, ever. And now Mildred must contend with raising a dragon (that should not exist), kindling a romance (with a humble vicar), and embarking on an adventure she never thought could be hers for the taking.

Burn Zone by Annabeth Albert is $1.99! This is book one in the Hotshots series, which features firefighter and smoke jumper heroes. I know we have a few Albert fans in the Bitchery. Have you read this one?
Introducing Annabeth Albert’s Hotshots series—the emotions and intensity of Chicago Fire with the raw, natural elements of Man vs. Wild.
Danger lurks everywhere for Central Oregon’s fire crews, but the biggest risk of all might be losing their hearts…
Smoke jumper Lincoln Reid is speechless to see Jacob Hartman among his squad’s new recruits. Linc had promised his late best friend he’d stay away from his little brother. And yet here Jacob is…and almost instantly, the same temptation Linc has always felt around him is causing way too many problems.
Jacob gets everyone’s concerns, but he’s waited years for his shot at joining the elite smoke jumping team, hoping to honor his brother’s memory. He’s ready to tackle any challenge Linc throws his way, and senses the chemistry between them—chemistry Linc insists on ignoring—is still alive and kicking. This time, Jacob’s determined to get what he wants.
Close quarters and high stakes make it difficult for Linc to keep his resolve, never mind do so while also making sure the rookie’s safe. But the closer they get, the more Linc’s plan to leave at the end of the season risks him breaking another promise: the one his heart wants to make to Jacob.

The Devil’s Own Duke by Lenora Bell is $1.99! This is book two in the Wallflowers vs. Rogues historical romance series. I’m super curious about the heroine and her passion to keep her family’s vineyard afloat.
USA Today bestseller Lenora Bell returns to her Wallflowers vs. Rogues series with a romance between a lady and the scoundrel claiming to be next-in-line for her father’s title.
Lady Henrietta Prince is far too busy for romance. She’s dedicated her life to turning her family vineyards into a profitable wine venture. But when she shares a kiss at midnight with a handsome stranger, she’s captivated…until he claims to be the distant heir to her father’s earldom.
Ash Ellis is a gambler who lives life on the edge. Now he’s locked his sights on a glittering prize and nothing will stand in his way.
When Henrietta is forced to marry the wickedly seductive scoundrel to keep her beloved vineyards, she vows that Ash will never have her trust, or her love. Even if his kisses are more intoxicating than the finest of wines.
His new bride is certainly beautiful, but biddable? Not so much. Ash will settle for nothing less than Henrietta’s total surrender…but is he the one in danger of losing his heart?

I liked the Devil’s own Duke (more than I expected (some in the series I’ve enjoyed, others have not been for me)).
I haven’t read that Annabeth Albert so I went to pick it up, along with the Invisible Women book (I’ve listened on audio and really appreciated it, read by the author,, glad to have an ebook copy).
I quite enjoyed Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide (to the Care and Feeding of British Dragons). And this reminds me that I should read on in the series.
@Kareni, I agree with you feelings about Miss Percy. It was delightful and I too need to read on in the series.
BURN ZONE was the last Annabeth Albert book that I really enjoyed. I like a lot of her earlier work, but I’ve struggled with more recent ones. BURN ZONE was a good read, though!
Big fan of Marie Brennan’s Lady Trent series, as a dragon fan, especially the 5th book, Turning Darkness into Light.
Miss Percy’s Pocket Guide was terrific! Ms. Olson lives in my area and read from it when it was first published at a Lady Jane’s Salon I, and two other authors, host. She was a wonderful guest author and continues to attend Lady Jane’s when she can. Shameless plug: If you’re in the eastern Pennsylvania area, we’d welcome you to come hear from our authors or if you’re an author in the PA, MD, DE, NY area, please contact me if you are interested in reading from a new romance, or a romance adjacent book. Thanks for letting me post, Sarah. We collect $5 or a gently used romance and all proceeds go to the YWCA women’s homeless shelter. More than ten years!
