Welcome back to Links! Thank you all for the well wishes last week. Engaged life has been great and I’m still basking in the bliss of celebrating with my person.
I was also able to usher in the fall season with my first batch of chili! We have a family recipe (it’s nothing fancy) and it really hit the spot, complete with some crusty bread for dunking.
Do any of you have a favorite seasonal dish to make for fall? My desire for baking, I feel, has been replaced by the need to make large vats of soup (like a witch!).

Meet Aki and Koichi, a cute older, married couple who love showing their outfits! They have both an Instagram and TikTok channel.

Love cats and management games? Cat Cafe Manager 2 has a Kickstarter with a little over a week left. They’ve met their goal and I’m a big fan of the first game.

In an episode of This American Life, they dive into menstrual cramp simulation machines. Thanks to SarBear for sharing this link with us on the SBTB Podcast Patreon Discord.

I saw a trailer for this documentary last night, about a disabled couple who can’t get married or else they’d lose their benefits. The movie is out on Hulu on September 30th. I plan to watch!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

If you’re in the mood for soup, Soup Addict is the best, especially now during Souptember (https://soupaddict.com/). I’ve made many of Karen’s soups, and other recipes, and have never been disappointed.
A favorite fall dish is Dorie Greenspan’s Beggar’s Linguine (https://doriegreenspan.com/old_site/beggars-linguine-fruits-nuts-pasta-and-a-little-history/). Fruit, nuts, browned butter — do not forget the orange zest! — any pasta you like. I could easily eat the entire meal by myself.
Somewhat o/t, but during the contestant chat portion of Jeopardy yesterday, the current champion, one David Erb, said his wife had written a best-selling book. His wife? Bonnie Garmus, author of LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY. It was such an unexpected, random thing, I had to share.
Fall favorites at our house are chili, beef stew and chicken soup. My husband makes HUGE batches that we portion out and freeze. It is so great to be able to pull out a fall favorite, defrost and enjoy.
On last night’s DANCING WITH THE STARS, Ilona Maher and partner Alan Bersten’s salsa version of the Dirty Dancing finale made me happy for so, so many reasons…you’ll see:

Wish the YouTube clip left in the post-dance interview, her comments gave me the feels and made me want her cast as the heroine in a [good!!] romcom posthaste!!
The highs are still in the high 80s here in New Mexico, so while mornings might feel like fall, evenings do not. I’m looking forward to cooler weather for many reasons, including soup. We love grilled cheese and tomato soup. When made with good bread and cheddar, the children’s favorite still satisfies.
Fall favorite: APPLE PIE!

Here in Georgia fall is barbecue season! The Methodist church near our old apartment makes the most fabulous pulled pork ever and sells sandwiches and meals only two days a year, so we make sure not to miss it. As for myself, I’m hopefully slapping this year’s batch of bacon on the smoker this weekend, if the hurricane lets up long enough. To fend off today’s chilly rain I have my grandmother’s chicken soup in the crock pot. Other faves include two versions of vegan chili and chicken enchiladas.
Apple Festival is one week away, and it’s known for the apple dumplings. Apple pie, too.
