Links: The Word of the Day is Romantasy

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links! Romantasy is inescapable; sorry, folks!

If you remember last week or maybe even the week before where I mentioned my partner was sick…well, it finally claimed me. Boo! Hiss! I started feeling a cough on Thursday and I’m definitely over it. Please send me all of your good, healing vibes!

If you watched the Super Bowl, you might have seen that Michael Cera is the new spokesperson for CeraVe. That led me to this Allure article, “More Little Weirdos in Beauty Campaigns, Please.” I’m 100% on board for more quirky skincare campaigns.

Sarah was in the Washington Post talking about romantasy! (Still hate that portmanteau but it is clearly here to stay.)

And speaking of romantasy, Humble Bundle has some “romantasy” audiobooks up on offer, though to me some of these are more urban fantasy. Though Sarah and I had an interesting discussion of whether romantasy has taken over urban fantasy because UF isn’t a term we see much anymore.

If you like crochet or amigurumi, there’s a Humble Bundle for that as well! For both this and the audiobook deal, you can find info about the formats in “Bundle Details” section in the righthand sidebar.

If you have the Libby app, you can gain access to the Queer Liberation Library, which also offers a handy “quick exit” feature.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

This evening the radio program Today, Explained (also available as podcast) was about Faerie Smut. The last segment featured a guest whose job includes tracking the kind of books people read from year to year. She was really interesting, mentioning vampires, something (forgot already), romance/fantasy and offering commentary on transitions from one popular genre to another.

I just read Sarah’s article and don’t know which I enjoyed more – her article or the testy comments.

  3. @SB Sarah says:

@LML Ha! You could draw up a bingo card from the comments getting all tetchy about books and fantasy.

  4. HeatherS says:

I wanted to read Sarah’s article, but pesky paywall.

  5. Melody Prime says:

Thanks for the Humble Bundle Link! Crochet and supporting a good cause? Yes please.

  6. Vicki says:

Can someone with a Washington Post subscription share a gift link for that article, please?

  7. LML says:

    https://wapo.st/3OKAyOq

This is my first attempt at sharing a gift link.

  8. LML says:

    The link works.
Subscriptions to on-line WaPo are between $20 and $40 per year, $29 at the moment. Often, if you ask, they will give a $20 senior rate. Be sure to call at end of subscription for another special rate or they’ll hit your credit card for a painful full price subscription. And then credit it back when you call to fuss.

  9. denise says:

@LML, thank you for the free WaPo article!

  10. @SB Sarah says:

Thank you so much for the gift link, LML!!

  11. AJ says:

@LML -canceling my subscription online before it renews always gets me an offer to renew at a discount. No phone call required. That always seems to be $29 regardless of what the current discount offer is.
