HaBO: Alien Invasion Romance

This HaBO request is from Tinia, who wants to find this romance:

I read this book about 2 years ago. I remember the female main character was a US commander/general working at the embassy. The beginning of the book started with an embassy meeting where all the US commanders were arguing about a pending alien invasion.

Then the alien main character crashes the meeting. The alien forces the humans to swear their allegiance or something like that. A couple humans die by the aliens because they refuse. The alien asks the female main character about her job and he kidnaps her. I think he used her for marketing to show that the American government was on board with the shift in power.

He was really kinky; I remember there was a scene where he ties her up in his condo naked and then proceeds to conduct a meeting with his alien friends with her there.

I have been looking for a year and I can’t remember the name.

I did have a laugh at an alien buying an Earth condo.

I am also tickled by the idea of an alien buying an Earth condo. And if they’re anywhere near where I live, complaining about the prices because they could something twice the size at home for that, with TWO skravu chambers AND a nice view over the qu’arth pits.

Not to mention dealing with the condo board.

  3. Louise says:

Reminds me of something I read years ago: That the trope of an alien falling for a human woman is as improbable as a human who is attracted only to female lobsters, not male ones.

Oh, dear. We’re not getting any closer to HABO, are we.

  4. Gloriamarie Amalfitano says:

This book sounds so crazy sauce. Do they fall in love? I wonder how the other condo owners felt about an alien neighbor?
I know Tasha Black has written lots of alien males/human women stories but I don’t remember one about an invasion or a female general. I am curious about it, though.

in a weird way, it reminds me of the SNL Close Encounter skits with Kate McKinnon.

  6. Kara says:

Kind of feels like Agent to the Stars by John Scalzi.

@Louise this is exactly why I can’t read interspecies romances. My brain adamantly refuses to suspend the disbelief. (Although I would totally read a well-researched, human/Neanderthal romance.)

However, I desperately want to know where the condo is, because it would be amazing if it were in a location that a human would find suboptimal but that reminded the alien of somewhere super desirable Back Home that he’d never have been able to afford, OR vice versa.

This kinda feels like a Grace Goodwin book. There’s an alien invasion by the borg coming and different types of aliens protecting Earth in exchange for women. It’s the Interstellar Bride Series and different books have different combos of couples.
There’s also a type of alien that the mating has to be public to be approved… Maybe it’s combo of books?

  9. JudyW says:

The most successful human/alien believable attraction was LAST HOUR OF GANN. By R.Lee Smith. No shortcuts here as the alien had a hard shell like torso and they shared no common language and no cop out translator tech. Very violent but the heroine is kick ass and worthy of surviving. Loved that book but be aware it’s got some tough to read about incidents.

  10. Kareni says:

@Star, you may wish to take a look at Transcendence by Shay Savage which features a pre-verbal homosapien man and a young woman who has traveled back in time.

  11. Sarah says:

I have read some Susan Kearney, and she has some alien/Human romances.

The humiliation/voyeurism scene mentioned is not something I’ve come across, so I can rule out Gail Koger/Coletti Warlords, Evangeline Anderson and most of Laurann Dohner. In fact, it sounds more like some “old school” Elloras Cave kinky stuff, so definitle more on the erotica side? Too bad it hasn’t been found yet.
