  • The Widow of Rose House

The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller

RECOMMENDED: The Widow of Rose House by Diana Biller is $2.99! Aarya loved this one and gave it an A-:

Try a sample of the first chapter; it hooked me instantly from the first paragraph and never let go. The Widow of Rose House is close to perfection and any lover of historical romance will adore this debut.

A young widow restores a dilapidated mansion with the assistance of a charming, eccentric genius, only to find the house is full of dangerous secrets in this effervescent Gilded Age debut novel

It’s 1875, and Alva Webster has perfected her stiff upper lip after three years of being pilloried in the presses of two continents over fleeing her abusive husband. Now his sudden death allows her to return to New York to make a fresh start, restoring Liefdehuis, a dilapidated Hyde Park mansion, and hopefully her reputation at the same time. However, fresh starts aren’t as easy as they seem, as Alva discovers when stories of a haunting at Liefdehuis begin to reach her. But Alva doesn’t believe in ghosts. So when the eccentric and brilliant professor, Samuel Moore, appears and informs her that he can get to the bottom of the mystery that surrounds Liefdehuis, she turns him down flat. She doesn’t need any more complications in her life―especially not a handsome, convention-flouting, scandal-raising one like Sam.

Unfortunately, though Alva is loath to admit it, Sam, a pioneer in electric lighting and a member of the nationally-adored Moore family of scientists, is the only one who can help. Together, the two delve into the tragic secrets wreathing Alva’s new home while Sam attempts to unlock Alva’s history―and her heart.

Set during the Gilded Age in New York City, The Widow of Rose House is a gorgeous debut by Diana Biller, with a darkly Victorian Gothic flair and an intrepid and resilient American heroine guaranteed to delight readers.

  • To Marry and to Meddle

To Marry and to Meddle by Martha Waters

To Marry and to Meddle by Martha Waters is $1.99! This is book three in The Regency Vows series and features a marriage of convenience. I know Aarya loves this series. Have you read it?

The “sweet, sexy, and utterly fun” (Emily Henry, author of The People We Meet on Vacation) Regency Vows series continues with a witty, charming, and joyful novel following a seasoned debutante and a rakish theater owner as they navigate a complicated marriage of convenience.

Lady Emily Turner has been a debutante for six seasons now and should have long settled into a suitable marriage. However, due to her father’s large debts, her only suitor is the persistent and odious owner of her father’s favorite gambling house. Meanwhile, Lord Julian Belfry, the second son of a marquess, has scandalized society as an actor and owner of a theater—the kind of establishment where men take their mistresses, but not their wives. When their lives intersect at a house party, Lord Julian hatches a plan to benefit them both.

With a marriage of convenience, Emily will use her society connections to promote the theater to a more respectable clientele and Julian will take her out from under the shadows of her father’s unsavory associates. But they soon realize they have very different plans for their marriage—Julian wants Emily to remain a society wife, while Emily discovers an interest in the theater. But when a fleeing actress, murderous kitten, and meddlesome friends enter the fray, Emily and Julian will have to confront the fact that their marriage of convenience comes with rather inconvenient feelings.

With “an arch sense of humor and a marvelously witty voice that rivals the best of the Regency authors” (Entertainment Weekly), Martha Waters crafts another fresh romantic comedy that for fans of Julia Quinn and Evie Dunmore.

  • Like Lovers Do

Like Lovers Do by Tracey Livesay

Like Lovers Do by Tracey Livesay is $1.99! Carrie reviewed this one and gave it C+, though notes there is an “evil ex” and everyone could have benefited from therapy. However, there were some good parts:

This book is very descriptive: the dreamy vacations are dreamy, the sex is hot, and many of the issues that are present deserve exploration.

Tracey Livesay continues her fun-filled Girls Trip series with this romance that will tug at your heartstrings.

Sometimes faking it can lead to the real thing…

Driven and focused, Dr. Nicole Allen is an accomplished surgeon. With a tough past, Nic’s gone above and beyond everyone’s expectations. But when she disciplines an intern—a powerful donor’s son—a prestigious fellowship she’s awaiting is placed in jeopardy.

Coming from a successful family who runs a medical business empire, Benjamin Reed Van Mont is the black sheep, having chosen to start his own business instead. Though he’s not ready to settle down, he knows when the time comes it definitely won’t be with a workaholic doctor like his friend Nic—even if she’s had him re-examining his edict…more than once.

When Ben’s status-climbing ex-girlfriend finds her way back into his orbit, Nic proposes a swap of services. She’ll spend the week with Ben on Martha’s Vineyard, pretending to be his girlfriend—but only if he’ll have his family intervene on her behalf so she won’t lose her fellowship. How hard can the charade be?

But as they’re about to discover, they’ve sorely underestimated their true feelings for each other…

  • Love Lettering

    Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn

RECOMMENDED: Love Lettering by Kate Clayborn is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! As of right now, it’s not being price-matched. Aarya gave this one an A:

Love Lettering is a special book that I’ll hold close to my heart for a long time. It’s a quiet romance with quiet protagonists, but sometimes it’s the quiet moments that echo the loudest.

In this warm and witty romance from acclaimed author Kate Clayborn, one little word puts a woman’s business—and her heart—in jeopardy . . .

Meg Mackworth’s hand-lettering skill has made her famous as the Planner of Park Slope, designing custom journals for her New York City clientele. She has another skill too: reading signs that other people miss. Knowing the upcoming marriage of Reid Sutherland and his polished fiancée was doomed to fail is one thing, but weaving a secret word of warning into their wedding program is another. Meg may have thought no one would spot it, but she hadn’t counted on sharp-eyed, pattern-obsessed Reid.

A year later, Reid has tracked Meg down to find out how she knew that his meticulously planned future was about to implode. But with a looming deadline and a bad case of creative block, Meg doesn’t have time for Reid’s questions—unless he can help her find her missing inspiration. As they gradually open up to each other, both try to ignore a deepening connection between them. But the signs are there—irresistible, indisputable, urging Meg to heed the messages Reid is sending her, before it’s too late . . .

  1. I absolutely adore The Widow of Rose House – it’s one of my very favorite books! After I read it in ebook, I bought a paperback copy, too, because I needed to have it in multiple formats for all my future re-reads. 🙂 Sweet, scholarly hero + fierce, wonderful heroine, creepy ghost and amazing family = total bliss.

  2. Rhiannon Kaye says:

Diana Biller fan but realized I don’t have the ebook (read a library copy) so purchased:). Looking forward to the continuation of that series and her other upcoming book in the meantime 🙂

  3. flchen1 says:

Jennifer Bernard’s Seduced by Snowfall (Lost Harbor, Alaska #3) is free.

  4. Kareni says:

Dalí by E.M. Hamill is FREE for US Kindle readers. I enjoyed this book.

This science fiction work is set in space in the future; the title character is an empath, an ambassador, and a changeling third-gender (an intersex human able to assume a male or female form at will). Dalí’s husband, wife, and unborn child were killed in a bombing six months ago and, when the novel begins, Dalí is grieving. Other third-gender changelings have gone missing from various worlds, and Dalí is recruited to go undercover to learn more.

  5. Heather says:

I checked out the sample from Love Lettering and couldn’t resist buying it based on the first sentence: “On Sundays I work in sans serif.”

  6. Jane says:

I picked up To Marry and to Meddle after the local bookstore hosted the author and thought it was really adorable. The tone of it felt really different than other historicals I had read—more lively and lighthearted. I’m not a huge reader of historical romance, or a knowledgable history person in general, so I don’t know if the writing was “getting things wrong” historically or not, but I enjoyed it?

I wanted to like Love Lettering (I love fonts) but I’m afraid it was a DNF for me. Maybe my issues were very specific to me, but I kept finding myself disliking the heroine and wanting to protect the hero from her. I kept trying to keep going and getting more upset, so I finally gave up. I’d like to try other Kate C. books because I’ve heard good things about her, but I haven’t yet been motivated to do it.

  7. LouiseFromBreese says:

I enjoyed Love Lettering. It’s a sweet book, low-angst. I was like @Jane and almost didn’t finish it as the middle dragged a bit, but everything came together in the end.

  8. Darlynne says:

LOVE LETTERING and THE WIDOW OF ROSE HOUSE were both favorites of mine. Thanks for the reminder to check out the other books in Biller’s series.

  9. LisaM says:

Thanks @Kareni, Dalí sounds really intriguing and I one-clicked it.

    I have Diana Biller’s new book pre-ordered and I can’t wait.

  10. hng23 says:

I too DNFed LOVE LETTERING; it just didn’t click for me. Which is unusual, because I really enjoyed THE WALSHES series, THE WORST GUY & IN A JAM.

  11. Katie Lynn says:

Hng23 – I think you’re conflating Kate Clayborn and Kate Canterbary. Canterbary wrote the Walshes and the other titles you mentioned.

  12. Susan/DC says:

Put me in the “adored it” camp for LOVE LETTERING. I didn’t mind Meg at all, and Reid was such an honorable (we only find out how honorable near the end) and focused hero. I also loved that it was a love letter to New York. Meg takes Reid around the city, and as she shows him the various aspects (signs, building details, etc.) of the built environment that are overlooked all too often, she comes to rediscover her own creativity. At the time I read the book my son and DIL lived in Park Slope, so the book had an additional layer of meaning for me.

  13. Marci says:

A Lady’s Revenge (When the Blood Is Up Book 1) by Edie Cay is $1.99 on Amazon US. This has been on my watch list for awhile. The cover has me intrigued enough that I grabbed it.

  14. drewbird says:

The second book in a super fun Leverage-if-it-were-GAY/Bisexual series is on sale. A chaotic neutral thief falls head-over heals in love and it is hilarious. I am a big fan of AJ Sherwood’s mm romances and they don’t go on sale often:

Also on sale are Wicked Saints and the Raven Boys (haven’t read, but think I have seen one or both recomended here), and Gideon the Ninth and a T. Kingfisher – What Moves the Dead.

  15. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Just to reiterate: Kate Clayborn =/= Kate Canterbary. Lol

  16. wingednike says:

For Nook, I noticed that Nalini Singh’s Archangel’s Light and Patricia Briggs’ Wild Sign are both less than $3 each.
