Links: Advent Calendars, Fiber, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses. It’s Wednesday! It’s also the last day of November. How the heck did we get here?

For those who celebrated Thanksgiving, how was it? My chocolate mousse with cinnamon whipped cream was a big hit and so good. There were also a few mornings where I ate leftover mashed potatoes for breakfast.

Now, we begin the slow march (or rather brisk step) toward the final holidays before the new year. How are we all feeling? Excited? Overwhelmed?

This is a lovely profile of Annie, the woman who brought you Annie’s Mac & Cheese (and apparently Smart Food White Cheddar Popcorn).

I found this Instagram reel to be pretty soothing! We get to watch a scarf being made from scratch, including making the yarn!

This one is from Miriam D.

Jill Bearup makes videos analyzing fight scenes in movies, but lately has been doing a TikTok / YouTube shorts series of a fantasy heroine and her writer. It’s SO FUN and trope-y and giggly and brilliant.

You can find a compilation of the videos here!

Lastly, author Jae has an advent calendar for y’all!

Since December is the season of giving, sapphic romance author Jae has teamed up with 44 of the most popular authors of sapphic fiction to put together a Sapphic Book Advent Calendar.

Starting on December 1 until December 25, a new calendar door will open every day, revealing either a free ebook for you to download, a giveaway (ebook, paperback, or audiobook), or some other book-ish surprise! On December 24 and 25, there will even be 10 books waiting for you behind each door.

You can find the calendar and more info here!

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

Just as a general warning to people a few years ago Jill was lightly terfy. I don’t know if she’s since moved on from that and it wasn’t really in her content on YouTube, but just as a warning to people.

Thanksgiving was a quiet dinner at home, no gathering or anything out of the ordinary except stuffing was served…and then most of us got covid. yey :((((

The Guardian has an interesting story on library streaming as an alternative to Spotify (I can vouch for many Cherry Red Records comps on Hoopla these days), with the added attraction of spotlighting local musicians (complete with a link to Austin library selections):

@AtasB: I hope that you have all recovered.

I assume all podcast listeners here are already subscribed to This Is Love, but episode 56 is a warm one. BUT it does discuss cancer and loss and grief, so proceed with caution if you don’t want to think about that right now:

I just stumbled across the Oz: A Fantasy Role-Playing Setting guide. I’m not a huge fan of W of O or tabletop RPGs, but the combo strikes me as fun.

Thanks so much for the story on Annie. I had to go check my fridge, and my “Rabbit of Approval” and “Annie’s…a Real Person” magnets featuring Bernie are still there. I grew up in Connecticut circa 1990 and after a friend’s mom fed me Annie’s mac and cheese (and let me keep the box), my mom let me start ordering cases of it from Annie, which was the only way we knew to get it. I think you could mail in the box top and she’d send you a magnet. I’m glad to know she is doing well! <3 <3 <3
