  • Wild and Wicked Things

Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May

Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! Sarah mentioned in on a Hide Your Wallet and we’re all very curious about this historical fantasy with potentially dark, witchy lesbians. Carrie gave this one a C+ and take care to check the content warnings.

In the aftermath of World War I, a naive woman is swept into a glittering world filled with dark magic, romance, and murder in this lush and decadent debut.

On Crow Island, people whisper, real magic lurks just below the surface.

Neither real magic nor faux magic interests Annie Mason. Not after it stole her future. She’s only on the island to settle her late father’s estate and, hopefully, reconnect with her long-absent best friend, Beatrice, who fled their dreary lives for a more glamorous one.

Yet Crow Island is brimming with temptation, and the biggest one may be her enigmatic new neighbor.

Mysterious and alluring, Emmeline Delacroix is a figure shadowed by rumors of witchcraft. And when Annie witnesses a confrontation between Bea and Emmeline at one of the island’s extravagant parties, she is drawn into a glittering, haunted world. A world where the boundaries of wickedness are tested, and the cost of illicit magic might be death.

  • How to Love Your Elf

How to Love Your Elf by Kerrelyn Sparks

How to Love Your Elf by Kerrelyn Sparks is $1.99! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. It’s book one in the spin off series, Embraced by Magic. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first trilogy, but it’s possible that Sparks’ writing might not work for me.

Raised in isolation on the magic-shrouded Isle of the Moon, five girls became five sisters. Now women, they are ready to claim their places in the world—and perhaps change it forever . . .

    FLAME AND FORTUNE

Sorcha knew the mission was dangerous. Leaving the safe grounds of her brother’s kingdom and parlaying with the elves across their border . . . well, treachery seemed at least as likely as true peace. But to support her sister, Sorcha would brave far more than the underhanded ways of the elves. Or so she thought, before she was taken hostage.

Of course, her captors didn’t count on her particular abilities—or on the help of the Woodsman, the mysterious thief who made his home in the forest. He saw the battle from the trees, saw the soldier attacking against incredible odds to save a comrade—and then saw the valiant fighter revealed as Princess Sorcha of Norveshka. He can’t tell if he wants to kidnap her or kiss her. But despite Sorcha’s stubbornness, his inconvenient honor, and a rebellion on the cusp of full war, something burns between them that neither can let go . . .

  • A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem

A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem by Manda Collins

A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem by Manda Collins is $3.99!  Some readers loved the balance of romance and mystery, while others wanted more excitement from the plot.

An intrepid female reporter matches wits with a serious, sexy detective in award-winning author Manda Collin’s fun and flirty historical rom-com, perfect for readers of Evie Dunmore, Julia Quinn, and Tessa Dare!

England, 1865 : As one of England’s most notorious newspaper columnists, Lady Katherine Bascomb believes knowledge is power. And she’s determined to inform and educate the ladies of London on the nefarious-and deadly-criminals who are praying on the fairer sex. When her reporting leads to the arrest of a notorious killer, however, Katherine flees to a country house party to escape her newfound notoriety-only to witness a murder on her very first night. And when the lead detective accuses Katherine of inflaming-rather than informing-the public with her column, she vows to prove him wrong.

Detective Inspector Andrew Eversham’s refusal to compromise his investigations nearly cost him his own career, and he blames Katherine. To avoid bad publicity, his superiors are pressuring him to solve cases quickly rather than correctly. When he discovers she’s the key witness in a new crime, he’s determined to prevent the beautiful widow from once again wreaking havoc on his case. Yet as Katherine proves surprisingly insightful and Andrew impresses Katherine with his lethal competency, both are forced to admit the fire between them is more flirtatious than furious. But to explore the passion between them, they’ll need to catch a killer.

  • Man Hands

    Man Hands by Sarina Bowen

Man Hands by Sarina Bowen and Tanya Eby is FREE! I mentioned this on an older Hide Your Wallet. The saucy puns and overall description give me Alice Clayton’s Hudson Valley vibes, which is a series I adore.

He puts the “screw” in screwball comedy…

    BRYNN
At thirty-four, I’m reeling from a divorce. I don’t want to party or try to move on. I just want to stay home and post a new recipe on my blog: Brynn’s Dips and Balls.

But my friends aren’t having it. Get out there again, they say. It will be fun, they say. I’m still taking a hard pass.

Free designer cocktails, they say. And that’s a game-changer.

Too bad my ex shows up with his new arm candy. That’s when I lose my mind. But when my besties dare me to leap on the first single man I see, they don’t expect me to actually go through with it.

    TOM
All I need right now is some peace and quiet while my home renovation TV show is on hiatus. But when a curvy woman in a red wrap dress charges me like she’s a gymnast about to mount my high bar, all I can do is brace myself and catch her. What follows is the hottest experience of my adult life.

I want a repeat, but my flying Cinderella disappears immediately afterward. She doesn’t leave a glass slipper, either—just a pair of panties with chocolate bunnies printed on them.

    But I will find her.

  1. Empress of Blandings says:

I usually enjoy Sarina Bowen so clicking on that.

Also, I read the title of this post as Elvis, a freebie, & more. Would read a book about elves obsessed with rock & roll.

  2. @Empress of Blandings – have you already read Emma Bull’s War for the Oaks?

  3. Empress of Blandings says:

No, I have not heard of this and will track it down. Thank you for the recommendation!

  4. Amanda says:

@Empress of Blandings: Seconding Stephanie’s rec! Loved War for the Oaks!

  5. Laurel says:

I love Sarina Bowen, and I bought Man Hands the last time it was a deal. It was a DNF for me. I always wonder when there are two authors, how they split up the writing duties – does one person do one POV, and then the other author the other? Because I wasn’t enjoying this book, I tried to determine if that is what happened here, that one POV was better than the other, but the book just didn’t gel for me and I gave up on it. After about the fourth time I read where a thought must have been unknowingly said out loud (this happened in both the hero and heroine’s POV), I stopped reading. The book is free, and your mileage may vary, but I wouldn’t recommend it.

I think this is the first Sarina Bowen book I have read that I did not enjoy (and I have read a lot of them). Very disappointing.

  6. Kareni says:

@Laurel, I’m another for whom Man Hands did not work. (And Sarina Bowen has written some books that I’ve reread a number of times.)

  7. Neile says:

@Laurel, the Man Hands series worked best for me on audio. I didn’t love it as much as I love most of her other solo work, but ended up liking it a lot in that format.

  8. Lizzy says:

@Laurel I also DNF’d Man Hands barely 2 chapters in and Sarina Bowen is otherwise an autobuy for me. I don’t know why I dislike her collaborations so much but I think I remember thinking one of the MC’s in this one came off as unbearably juvenile.

  9. Melissandre says:

@Empress of Blandings, Mercedes Lackey has an old series with elves who love racecars: The Serrated Edge. The first few were written in the 80s so there is something of a hair metal/punk vibe to them. They can get a little dark, though, and not all of them have romance plots…

  10. LouiseFromBreese says:

A Lady’s Guide to Mischief and Mayhem is a cute story, I liked that it was an easy read and even picked up the next book in the series.
