RECOMMENDED: The Stand-In by Lily Chu is $1.99! This is a debut contemporary romance. Elyse gave this one an A:
So we have a celebrity romance, women being friends and helping each other with their mental health, and reflections on identity and community. That’s a lot to pack into a book, but it all works and delivered by Philippa Soo’s incredibly soothing voice, it was totally my jam.
Malice by Heather Walter is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! This was mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet and is a spin on Sleeping Beauty. This is definitely on the darker side and has a romance between Princess Aurora and the evil sorceress.
Wild and Wicked Things by Francesca May is $1.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! Sarah mentioned in on a Hide Your Wallet and we’re all very curious about this historical fantasy with potentially dark, witchy lesbians. Carrie gave this one a C+ and take care to check the content warnings.
A Game of Fate by Scarlett St. Clair is 99c at Amazon! I feel like St. Clair has a huge following in the self-pub circles. I also believe this one is a retelling of her popular series starting with A Touch of Darkness, a Hades and Persephone retelling, but told through the eyes of Hades instead.
TW/CW: Sexual assault and harrassment. How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days is a slow burn fantasy romance that (despite the slowness of the romance) takes place over a week. There’s magic and assassinations, but for all its perceived elements of adventure, it was a rather subdued and odd read. If a child is born when the twin moons align in the world of Aerthlan, they are known as Embraced, gifted with a variety … Continue reading How to Tame a Beast in Seven Days by Kerrelyn Sparks
The Virgin and the Viscount by Charis Michaels is $1.99! This is a second chance romance between a heroine and a hero who rescued her at a young age. Some people thought the hero was a bit of an ass and since many loved the heroine, they desperately wished he was more deserving of her. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads, and a bunch of other Michaels historicals are on sale!
His Perfect Partner by Priscilla Oliveras is 99c! This contemporary romance features a single dad hero and a dance teacher heroine. Sonali Dev recommended this on a previous podcast episode. She did mention that at times, the book felt more like women’s fiction with a focus on family than a romance. The second book is also part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals.
RECOMMENDED: All In by Simona Ahrnstedt is $2.99! Redheadedgirl gave the book an A:
I felt like this was full of Shakespearean drama, and scheming families, and hot sex, and gorgeous clothes, but also some important things to say about how the world is functioning. There’s a lot going on, though, and the ending a tad rushed.
The Duke of Shadows by Meredith Duran is $1.99 right now. This was Duran’s debut historical, and Sarah reviewed it when it came out and gave it a B-. She struggled with the heroine, but looooved the hero:
Julian was tortured and noble, and though he didn’t change so much as come to own himself and the power at his disposal in both of the cultures that shaped him, his journey was fascinating. Julian was marvelous, and did things I wished heroes in other historical novels would do, including beating the ever living shit out of someone who truly deserved it, and being vindicated for doing so. YUM.
