Links: Subreddits, Imprints, & More

Workspace with computer, journal, books, coffee, and glasses.Welcome back to Wednesday Links!

By the time you’re reading this, I’ll be on a train back from NYC. My roommate was nominated for an award and graciously asked me to be her plus one. It was a nice night of yummy appetizers and an open bar on a covered, rooftop deck. We also were craving chocolate, so we grabbed some peanut butter M&Ms and Dove chocolates at a Duane Reade. Not a bad way to spend a Tuesday evening!

I also attended my first in-person Dungeons & Dragons campaign on Sunday. It was such a blast and I’m excited for our next session.

What were some of your wins this past week?

Look, I’m going to be honest. I had some chest issues recently and assumed my discomfort was from wearing the wrong size bra. With some major help from a wonderful subreddit, r/ABraThatFits, I did some measurements and turned out I was wearing a 38C when I should have been wearing a 38I. Wild!

Thanks to EC Spurlock for sending this link our way! Apparently, there’s news of a new sci-fi and fantasy romance imprint being launched and I’m so excited.

Sarah recommend a new podcast in Slack, called They Did That:

They Did That, a new podcast about the trailblazers and innovators—many of them women, people of colour and LGBTQ+ folks—who have been erased from the history books.

Another subreddit! r/RealBeesFakeTopHats. It does what it says on the tin and is an utter delight.

If you’re on TikTok, you may have come across Annie from the Depths of Wikipedia account. On Twitter, Annie is attempting to make daily Venn diagrams with often hilarious results.

Don’t forget to share what cool or interesting things you’ve seen, read, or listened to this week! And if you have anything you think we’d like to post on a future Wednesday Links, send it my way!

I’ve been rewatching “Love Between The Covers” (shout out to SB Sarah!) this past week. It made me realize how much things have changed since it was filmed – RT is gone, RWA imploded (and imploded again), The Ripped Bodice and other romance-focused bookstores have cropped up, etc – and it made me wonder what LBTC would look like if it was filmed today. It also made me wish that there was some sort of big romance con that stepped in to fill the void of RT, because I would love to be able to go buy tons of books and be surrounded by other romance readers.

Also, yes, we need more fantasy romance. *makes grabby hands at Red Tower Books*

I did the ABTF thing a few years back and it’s so worth it. My tip is to try to find UK retailers’ ebay stores; I think I’ve bought quite a few from Belle Lingerie specifically. They sell older stock there for less and shipping to the US isn’t outrageously expensive. Waaay cheaper than $60-70+ for this year’s colorways.

FYI Entangled publishing (and I’m assuming the new Red Tower Books) are part of MacMillan Publishing which is notoriously anti ebook and non library friendly. Remember when they forced libraries to buy new ebooks after 28 rentals at exorbitant prices? Alas I avoid them as much as possible until they change their stance and become a bit more ebook friendly.

@HeatherS Does Book Lovers Con count? I haven’t been to it but (if it’s still the same one) vaguely remember it’s organized by some of the people who used to work RTC.

Washington state having been omitted from the diagram, I can report that we are a no on cousin marriage, pet skunk ownership, and in-n-out burger.

  7. Those bees are so cute I could look at them all day!

@ HeatherS @wingednike, Book Lovers Con is basically RT; it’s run by the same people, it’s just not sponsored by Romantic Times anymore since the magazine closed. I have not been to BLC so I can’t say how it compares, but if you want to check it out here’s the link: https://www.bookloverscon.com/ It’s being held in Houston next year.
