Secrets for Seducing a Royal Bodyguard by Vanessa Kelly is $1.99! This is the first book in the Renegade Royals series. Some readers struggled with the instantaneous lustypants between the hero and heroine while others really liked the heroine’s bravery and her strength. There’s also a fair amount of action/mystery elements in this book.
In this witty, sensual new series, Vanessa Kelly introduces the Renegade Royals, illegitimate sons of the Royal Princes who are finding their rightful places in society…
Accomplished spy Aden St. George prefers to stay away from the frivolous ton, especially after the way his mother was used by the Prince Regent. But his latest mission compels him to guard unconventional, vibrant Lady Vivien Shaw. Rescuing her from kidnappers was easy. Resisting her beauty is not. Duty demands he keep an eye on her—and naturally, his lips soon follow. For someone who views entanglements as a weakness, this is pure, delicious folly…
Though grateful for Aden’s help, Vivien has secrets she must keep hidden. Yet with her abductors still at large, she needs Aden’s protection almost as much as she craves his touch…

Goddess with a Blade by Lauren Dane is $1.99! This is an urban fantasy novel with an ass-kicking heroine and vampires. Readers complain that it’s slow to start, which I think is a common problem with any first book in a new UF series. Many, though, loved the heroine and thought she had a great blend of humor, badassery, and sexiness.
Rowan Summerwaite is no ordinary woman. Physical vessel to the Celtic Goddess Brigid and raised by the leader of the Vampire Nation, she’s a supercharged hunter with the power to slay any vampire who violates the age-old treaty.
A recent string of murders has her at odds with Las Vegas’s new Scion, the arrogant and powerful Clive Stewart. The killings have the mark of Vampire all over them, and Rowan warns Clive to keep his people in line—or she’ll mete out her own brand of justice.
Though her dealings with Clive are adversarial to say the least, Rowan is intensely aware of her attraction to him. But she can’t let it distract her from her duty—to find and battle the killer before more women die.

Legendborn by Tracy Deonn is $1.99! This a YA fantasy that I’ve heard countless good things about and it’s won awards! Alyssa Cole recommend it on a previous podcast and we may have talked about it on Cover Awe.
Filled with mystery and an intriguingly rich magic system, Tracy Deonn’s YA contemporary fantasy Legendborn offers the dark allure of City of Bones with a modern-day twist on a classic legend and a lot of Southern Black Girl Magic.
After her mother dies in an accident, sixteen-year-old Bree Matthews wants nothing to do with her family memories or childhood home. A residential program for bright high schoolers at UNC–Chapel Hill seems like the perfect escape—until Bree witnesses a magical attack her very first night on campus.
A flying demon feeding on human energies.
A secret society of so called “Legendborn” students that hunt the creatures down.
And a mysterious teenage mage who calls himself a “Merlin” and who attempts—and fails—to wipe Bree’s memory of everything she saw.
The mage’s failure unlocks Bree’s own unique magic and a buried memory with a hidden connection: the night her mother died, another Merlin was at the hospital. Now that Bree knows there’s more to her mother’s death than what’s on the police report, she’ll do whatever it takes to find out the truth, even if that means infiltrating the Legendborn as one of their initiates.
She recruits Nick, a self-exiled Legendborn with his own grudge against the group, and their reluctant partnership pulls them deeper into the society’s secrets—and closer to each other. But when the Legendborn reveal themselves as the descendants of King Arthur’s knights and explain that a magical war is coming, Bree has to decide how far she’ll go for the truth and whether she should use her magic to take the society down—or join the fight.

With a name like Clive Stewart, I think your only options are to be either a vampire or a bit character in a Christie novel
I thought LEGENDBORN was great. Unknown family history tangled with magic, Bree is a really strong character and the relationships she builds are satisfying. CW for institutionalized racism, iirc. Highly recommended.
Legendborn was amazing! I’m counting down the days until book 2 is here.
Whoa. I don’t read books about highschoolers b/c I have a few in my house and it weirds me out, but I also live in Chapel Hill, so will instantly one-click all Triangle related fantasy novels. I just prefer it when the demons feed at Duke!
I haven’t read Legendborn but our copy gets checked a great deal.
My bookgroup was two thumbs up on Legendborn. We love the UNC nods (we are in the area) and the weaving of the main character’s family history is also good.
