Diablo Lake: Moonstruck
RECOMMENDED: Diablo Lake: Moonstruck by Lauren Dane is $1.99! Sarah reviewed this one and thought it was a great start to the series. Here are some of her thoughts:
This paranormal small Southern town of shifters and witches and rival pack tensions between the Dooleys and Pembrys is immersively fun, sexy, and thoughtful. Bonus points: witches AND vivid, loving female friendships.
In Diablo Lake, Tennessee, a town populated by werewolves, witches, and more, magic woven deep into the earth protects the town’s secrets from outsiders.
Katie Grady left Diablo Lake to get over a humiliating breakup; but her family needs her help, so she’s back, in a sublet right across the hall from the guy she’s lusted after for years. Jace Dooley is hotter than ever, and their friendship picks up along with massive doses of grown-up chemistry.
The very scent of Katie sharpens Jace’s canines, makes the wolf within him stir. There’s nothing more alluring to a Pack Alpha than a sexy female who is so very in charge. She won’t be coddled, but if he plays his hand just right she might be convinced to become his.
Katie presents a challenge to Jace’s wolf nature, whose chief instinct is to protect. Especially now that she’s coming into the magic that is her birthright – and suddenly Jace isn’t the only one who’s interested in Katie, or the raw power she’s just learning to use.

The Siren
RECOMMENDED: The Siren by Tiffany Reisz is $1.99! I’m getting Showgirls vibes from the new cover. Elyse loves Reisz’s writing and gave this book an A when she reviewed, saying:
The Siren is surprisingly light on sex, but heavy on kink, and it’s the most detailed look into S&M I’ve ever read. It’s also sharp and smart, and incredibly well-written. I couldn’t stop at The Siren. I read the next books immediately after in one big bleary-eyed kink fest.
Notorious Nora Sutherlin is famous for her delicious works of erotica, each one more popular with readers than the last. But her latest manuscript is different—more serious, more personal—and she’s sure it’ll be her breakout book…if it ever sees the light of day.
Zachary Easton holds Nora’s fate in his well-manicured hands. The demanding British editor agrees to handle the book on one condition: he wants complete control. Nora must rewrite the entire novel to his exacting standards—in six weeks—or it’s no deal.
Nora’s grueling writing sessions with Zach are draining…and shockingly arousing. And a dangerous former lover has her wondering which is more torturous—staying away from him…or returning to his bed?
Nora thought she knew everything about being pushed to your limits. But in a world where passion is pain, nothing is ever that simple.

Murder on Black Swan Lane
Murder on Black Swan Lane by Andrea Penrose is 99c! This is the first book in the historical mystery Wrexford & Sloane series, which I think Ellen enjoys.
In Regency London, an unconventional scientist and a fearless female artist form an unlikely alliance to expose unspeakable evil . . .
The Earl of Wrexford possesses a brilliant scientific mind, but boredom and pride lead him to reckless behavior. So when pompous, pious Reverend Josiah Holworthy publicly condemns him for debauchery, Wrexford unsheathes his rapier-sharp wit and strikes back. As their war of words escalates, London’s most popular satirical cartoonist, A.J. Quill, skewers them both. But then the clergyman is found slain in a church—his face burned by chemicals, his throat slashed ear to ear—and Wrexford finds himself the chief suspect.
An artist in her own right, Charlotte Sloane has secretly slipped into the persona of her late husband, using his nom de plume A.J. Quill. When Wrexford discovers her true identity, she fears it will be her undoing. But he has a proposal—use her sources to unveil the clergyman’s clandestine involvement in questionable scientific practices, and unmask the real murderer. Soon Lord Wrexford and the mysterious Mrs. Sloane plunge into a dangerous shadow world hidden among London’s intellectual enclaves to trap a cunning adversary—before they fall victim to the next experiment in villainy . . .

Sorry, not to do with any of the above books, but thought people might appreciate this McSweeney’s article: We Are a Picturesque Small Town and We Refuse to Be the Setting for Your Romantic Comedy. https://www.mcsweeneys.net/articles/we-are-a-picturesque-small-town-and-we-refuse-to-be-the-setting-for-your-romantic-comedy
Worth reading just for the groaningly bad pun shop names.
Also, I’ve realised I don’t know how to use the word ‘pun’ and its derivatives. It looked wrong however I tried to structure that last sentence.
So I’m sure “Diablo Lake:Moonstruck” is great, but every time it gets posted on sale I see the title and can’t help but think of Moonquake Lake, the movie-in-a-movie from the 2014 Annie.
And its accompanying song by Sia (which is clearly why it’s so catchy) and this clip:

Getting Played by Emma Chase is .99.
“Must Love Hockey” is fun and sweet. Although it can be read as a stand-alone, there’s extra enjoyment if you have read the other Brooklyn Bruisers books.
@Empress… The McSweeney article was bloody brilliant on an otherwise awful day. THANK you!!!
@Empress: That McSweeney’s is *chef’s kiss*.
I love McSweeney’s.
Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell is a KDD today for $1.99.
It’s a Medieval written in 1993, and I hadn’t heard of it until Sarah MacLean gushed about it on Fated Mates.
I read it recently and definitely enjoyed it, although the hero’s level of not trusting women was pretty epic so rather annoyed me. It has some interesting mystical elements that I liked too, and it was nice that they existed without the “burn the witch” stuff you’d expect. It’s the first in a trilogy, but you don’t need to read the others (although I liked them too).
I love ‘Murder on Black Swan Lake’ and the subsequent novels in the series. Charlotte and the Earl are both smart and have great chemistry, while the science covered in the series (the Earl is an inventor) is well-researched and touches on actual advancements being made at the time.
@spinsterrevival: It’s rather sobering to realize that I read Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell almost thirty years ago when it was new.I was a huge Elizabeth Lowell/Ann Maxwell fan at the time. I still have Tell Me No Lies on my shelf.
