  • If You Dare

If You Dare by Kresley Cole

If You Dare by Kresley Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in the MacCarrick Brothers series. Readers might be more familiar with Cole’s paranormal romances, but she started with writing historical romances. Cole typically writes Alpha heroes and this book is no exception. It has a 3.9-star rating on Goodreads.

Kresley Cole introduces a thrilling new romance trilogy featuring fierce Scottish brothers with dangerous lives, dark desires, and a deadly curse.

    Can he exact revenge?

High in the Pyrenees, a band of mercenaries led by Courtland MacCarrick wages war for General Reynaldo Pascal. When Court turns on the evil general, Pascal orders him killed, but Court narrowly escapes and exacts revenge by kidnapping Pascal’s exquisite Castilian fiancée.

    Can she deny her passions?

Lady Annalía Tristán Llorente despises her towering, barbaric captor almost as much as she does Pascal. Her inexplicable attraction to the Highlander only fuels her fury. But nothing will stop her from returning to Pascal—for if she doesn’t wed him, she signs her brother’s death warrant, as well as her own.

Can there be love between them?

From the moment Court discovers that Anna’s prim façade masks a fiery, brave lass, his heart’s ensnared, and he dares to defy the curse that has shadowed his life—to walk with death or walk alone. But Pascal vows that he’ll hunt the two, never stopping until he’s destroyed them both.

  • My Oxford Year

My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan

RECOMMENDEDMy Oxford Year by Julia Whelan is $1.99! The film rights for this book have been purchased, so we might be getting an adaptation. Sarah also had something to say:

I recorded a podcast with Julia Whelan when the book came out and I just recorded a follow up where we take a very, very deep dive in the structure and writing of the book. If you’d like to read it before we spoil the dickens out of it (No actual Dickens, though) this is an excellent opportunity to grab your copy!

Set amidst the breathtaking beauty of Oxford, this sparkling debut novel tells the unforgettable story about a determined young woman eager to make her mark in the world and the handsome man who introduces her to an incredible love that will irrevocably alter her future—perfect for fans of JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks.

American Ella Durran has had the same plan for her life since she was thirteen: Study at Oxford. At 24, she’s finally made it to England on a Rhodes Scholarship when she’s offered an unbelievable position in a rising political star’s presidential campaign. With the promise that she’ll work remotely and return to DC at the end of her Oxford year, she’s free to enjoy her Once in a Lifetime Experience. That is, until a smart-mouthed local who is too quick with his tongue and his car ruins her shirt and her first day.

When Ella discovers that her English literature course will be taught by none other than that same local, Jamie Davenport, she thinks for the first time that Oxford might not be all she’s envisioned. But a late-night drink reveals a connection she wasn’t anticipating finding and what begins as a casual fling soon develops into something much more when Ella learns Jamie has a life-changing secret.

Immediately, Ella is faced with a seemingly impossible decision: turn her back on the man she’s falling in love with to follow her political dreams or be there for him during a trial neither are truly prepared for. As the end of her year in Oxford rapidly approaches, Ella must decide if the dreams she’s always wanted are the same ones she’s now yearning for.

  • Stealing Home

    Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods

Stealing Home by Sherryl Woods is $2.99! This is a contemporary romance with a single mother heroine. The hero is her son’s baseball coach. Those looking for a light, fluffy romance might consider picking up this one, though some readers found a few of the characters to be a little too meddling and judgmental for their tastes

Maddie Townsend might live in a town called Serenity, but there’s been nothing calm or peaceful about her life since her marriage broke up. This stay-at-home mom has no job skills, an out-of-control sixteen-year-old son, a talkative fourteen-year-old who’s suddenly gone silent, a six-year-old daughter whose heart is broken, an ex-husband whose younger girlfriend is expecting their baby and two best friends who think she’s somehow qualified to help them open a fitness spa for women. But if Maddie is a tad on edge with all that on her plate, it’s nothing compared to the chaos that ensues when she discovers that her son’s baseball coach has feelings for her and the whole town disapproves. Maddie’s faced a lot of challenges lately with strength and resolve, but Cal Maddox may turn out to be more than she can handle.

Then again, he could just be the one man in all of South Carolina who can help her find serenity.

  • Air Awakens

    Air Awakens by Elise Kova

Air Awakens by Elise Kova is $2.49! I’ve read one of Kova’s other series and really enjoyed the writing. This is a fantasy series that was picked for a previous Vaginal Fantasy Romance book club. I also appreciate the author’s answer about the levels of romance in this book and the series overall.

A library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all–the Crown Prince Aldrik–she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

I love the show Sweet Magnolias! There’s romance, but it’s a lot more about friendship and family. Also features a successful plus size woman who is allowed to exist as a real person and not a stereotype.

  3. Laura George says:

My Oxford Year was on Book Bub today with a notice that it was perfect for fans of Nicholas Sparks and JoJo Moyes so I figured, you know, death, dying, tragedy …

  4. Lizzy says:

JoJo Moyes and Nicholas Sparks may not be the comparison that they want. Or maybe I’m an anomaly, but they just don’t work for me with all of the sadness and tragic endings.

  5. Laura George says:

@Lizzy: I don’t like either JJM or NS either. I know the comparisons iare to help sell books – but I recoiled immediately from My Oxford Year.

Looking for Trouble by Misha Horne is free on Amazon.

Here’s a little from my GR review.

3.5 or 4 stars – Kinky m/m historical with a long, slow burn, culminating in a lot of hot, consensual spanking and sex.

I’m still not sure if the story serves the sex or the sex serves the story. Would I have read 20 whole chapters of longing, flirting and farm chores without the promise of some hot sex and an honest to goodness consensual woodshed scene? Probably not.

I enjoyed the slow burn and the developing relationship but it got a little repetitive – some of it could be edited out without losing anything.

I’d recommend this for anyone who secretly enjoyed the woodshed scenes in old school westerns or if you liked Wicked West by Victoria Dahl. Or patient fans of daddy kink or spanking romances.
