  • Sorcerer to the Crown

Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho

Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho is $1.99! AJ reviewed this one and gave it a B-:

Do you ever read a Georgette Heyer novel and think, “Man, that was great but I wish it had magic and also, like, maybe some diversity in the main characters”? If so, do I have a book for you!

Magic and mayhem collide with the British elite in this whimsical and sparkling debut.

At his wit’s end, Zacharias Wythe, freed slave, eminently proficient magician, and Sorcerer Royal of the Unnatural Philosophers—one of the most respected organizations throughout all of Britain—ventures to the border of Fairyland to discover why England’s magical stocks are drying up.

But when his adventure brings him in contact with a most unusual comrade, a woman with immense power and an unfathomable gift, he sets on a path which will alter the nature of sorcery in all of Britain—and the world at large…

  • The Secret, Book & Scone Society

The Secret, Book & Scone Society by Ellery Adams

The Secret, Book & Scone Society by Ellery Adams is $2.99 on Amazon! It’s available elsewhere, but not at the sale price. This is book one in a cozy mystery series of the same name. I will gripe that the inconsistent use of the Oxford comma in both the book description and series name, but not the title irks me.

From New York Times bestselling author Ellery Adams comes the first in an intriguing new series set within a quirky small-town club where the key to happiness, friendship—or solving a murder—can all be found within the pages of the right book . . .

Miracle Springs, North Carolina, is a place of healing. Strangers flock here hoping the natural hot springs, five-star cuisine, and renowned spa can cure their ills. If none of that works, they often find their way to Miracle Books, where, over a fresh-baked “comfort” scone from the Gingerbread House bakery, they exchange their stories with owner Nora Pennington in return for a carefully chosen book. That’s Nora’s special talent—prescribing the perfect novel to ease a person’s deepest pain and lighten their heaviest burden.

When a visiting businessman reaches out to Nora for guidance, she knows exactly which novels will help. But before he can keep their appointment at Miracle Books, he’s found dead on the train tracks.

Stunned, Nora forms the Secret, Book, and Scone Society, a group of damaged souls yearning to gain trust and earn redemption by helping others. To join the society, members must divulge their darkest secret—the terrible truth that brought each of them to Miracle Springs in the first place.

Determined to uncover the truth behind the businessman’s demise, the women meet in Nora’s cramped and cozy bookstore to share stories and trade support. And as they untangle a web of corruption, they also discover their own courage, purpose, and a sisterhood that will carry them through every challenge—proving it’s never too late to turn the page and start over . . .

  • Believe in Me

Believe in Me by Ella Quinn

Believe in Me by Ella Quinn is $1.99!  This is the sixth book in the Worthingtons series. Many of the other titles are also on sale. I get the general sense that Quinn’s historical romances are hit or miss. Which camp do you fall into?

Even the Worthington least likely to wed may find her perfect match . . .

Marriage has worked out quite nicely for her older sisters, yet Lady Augusta Vivers is certain it would end her studies in languages and geography, and stop her from travelling. But when her mother thwarts her plan to attend the only university in Europe that accepts women—in Italy—she is forced to agree to one London Season. Spending her time at parties proves an empty diversion—until she encounters the well-traveled Lord Phineas Carter-Wood. Still, Europe awaits . . .

Phineas has studied architecture all over the world, yet Augusta is his most intriguing discovery yet. How can he resist a woman who loves maps and far-off lands? But her longing for all things foreign hinders any hope of courtship. When he learns her cousins have offered a trip to Europe, he secretly arranges to join their party. For he is determined to show Augusta that a real union is a thrilling adventure of its own. And when their journey is beset by dangerous obstacles, he gets far more opportunity than he bargained for . . .

  • Kiss of Midnight

Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian

Kiss of Midnight by Lara Adrian is 99c! This is the first book in the Midnight Breed paranormal romance series. I think I read this one when it came out in 2007 and it’s very much of that time, which is to say that hero is a domineering alpha. But the series is very marathonable.

He watches her from across the crowded dance club, a sensual black-haired stranger who stirs Gabrielle Maxwell’s deepest fantasies. But nothing about this night—or this man—is what it seems. For when Gabrielle witnesses a murder outside the club, reality shifts into something dark and deadly. In that shattering instant she is thrust into a realm she never knew existed—a realm where vampires stalk the shadows and a blood war is set to ignite.

Lucan Thorne despises the violence carried out by his lawless brethren. A vampire himself, Lucan is a Breed warrior, sworn to protect his kind—and the unwitting humans existing alongside them—from the mounting threat of the Rogues. Lucan cannot risk binding himself to a mortal woman, but when Gabrielle is targeted by his enemies, he has no choice but to bring her into the dark underworld he commands.

Here, in the arms of the Breed’s formidable leader, Gabrielle will confront an extraordinary destiny of danger, seduction, and the darkest pleasures of all. . . .

  1. I want to say Kiss of Midnight is “that book with the bathtub blowjob,” but I can’t remember what my private Goodreads account is to check my notes. Somebody please buy it and confirm/deny that either she keeps a snorkel on the edge of the tub or his junk is the Loch Ness monster.

  2. Suzy K says:

Believe in Me by Ella Quinn is no longer $1.99 at Amazon & is regular price at BN & Kobo. (darnit)

  3. Kareni says:

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (author of The Martian) is a US Kindle deal today for $3.99; it was a fun read.

  4. Jen says:

Oh man, Believe in Me had so much catnip for me (heroine with goals! travel! scholarly dude!), but HOO BOY, it’s got issues. I found it interminably boring–I could not figure out what the conflict or even plot was supposed to be. It also had a few disgusting moments when the hero thought something along the lines of ‘oh, if only the heroine would go topless like those native women I saw in my travels.’ Hrk. I got this from my library, and I still felt I overpaid.
