3 Historical and 1 Sci-Fi!

  • Ice Planet Barbarians

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon

Ice Planet Barbarians is $2.99 at Amazon! I read the print version and I’m unsure if the first ebook edition differs in content. If you know, please chime in below. Be warned that there is mention of sexual assault and dubious consent/power differentials.

The international publishing phenomenon Ice Planet Barbarians, now in a special print edition!

Fall in love with the out-of-this-world romance between Georgie Carruthers, a human woman, and Vektal, an alien from another planet, in this expanded edition with bonus materials and an exclusive epilogue–in print only!

You’d think being abducted by aliens would be the worst thing that could happen to me. And you’d be wrong. Because now the aliens are having ship trouble, and they’ve left their cargo of human women–including me–on an ice planet.

We’re not equipped for life in this desolate winter wasteland. Since I’m the unofficial leader, I head out into the snow to look for help.

I find help all right. A big blue horned alien introduces himself in a rather . . . startling way. Vektal says that I’m his mate, his chosen female–and that the reason his chest is purring is because of my presence. He’ll help me and my people survive, but this poses a new problem.

If Vektal helps us survive, I’m not sure he’s going to want to let me go.

  • The Formidable Earl

The Formidable Earl by Sophie Barnes

The Formidable Earl by Sophie Barnes is $2.49 at Amazon! It’s available at other retailers, just not at the sale price just yet. This is the sixth book in the Diamonds in the Rough series and you can preorder the upcoming ninth book for just $2.99. It comes out in May.

He’s breaking the rules for one woman, and coming dangerously close to falling in love…

Simon Nugent, Earl of Fielding, knows he’s flawed. He’s arrogant, possessive, and haunted by a terrible choice he made long ago. So when a former friend’s daughter gives him the chance to do a good deed, he grabs it. Except he’d like to grab her as well and teach her a thing or two about kissing. If only she weren’t so damn stubborn.

Ida Strong wants one thing – justice on behalf of her father. She has no room for anything else, in spite of her growing and (at times) inexplicable attraction toward a certain earl. But for a woman who knows what betrayal tastes like, placing her trust in others is hard. Risking her heart, would be downright foolish. Until it’s the only thing that seems to make sense.

  • The Look of Love

The Look of Love by Meara Platt

The Look of Love by Meara Platt is 99c! This is a historical romance with a friends to lovers trope. There is also mention of a magical book, but I don’t think this is really a fantasy romance. It’s noted in a few Goodreads comments that the romance feels quite young. Have you read this one?

Welcome to Book One in the fabulous new Book of Love series. A dingy old book tucked away in an old Regency London bookshop holds magic and love for those who use the ‘recipes’!

When Lady Olivia Gosling finds The Book of Love in a musty bookshop, she is most eager to try out its love “recipes” on someone safe.

    Did she say safe?

Well, Beast isn’t really safe, but with her odious guardian about to marry her off to one of his unsavory friends, Olivia needs her childhood friend to fall in love with her… fast. If Beast can love her, then any man she chooses will surely do the same.

Alexander Beastling, Duke of Hartford, is known as Beast among the ton. He is big and muscled, and there is a dark aura of mystery about him that he makes no effort to dispel. Now that he’s returned from battle, he’s appalled to learn of the marriage plans Lady Olivia’s loathsome guardian has for her. Beast has decided that he will help her find a proper husband, even if it means putting up with her ridiculous experiments taken out of a book she refers to as The Book of Love. Olivia calls them magical recipes for love.

Is it possible they actually work? Because suddenly, Beast can’t seem to get Olivia out of his mind… or his heart.

  • December Heart

    December Heart by Merry Farmer

December Heart by Merry Farmer is $2.99! This is book one in The Silver Foxes of Westminster historical romance series. I’m going to assume that judging by the name of the series and the book description here, that age differences or older heroes play a common theme.

At twenty-seven years old, Mariah Travers has become what she most feared—a spinster and a perpetual adolescent in the eyes of her family and the law. But her fortunes change when her father announces that he has promised her hand in marriage to an old friend and colleague in the House of Lords. Lord Peter deVere, Earl of Dunsford, is not at all who Mariah imagined marrying, but she is willing to take a chance on the older man in order to gain the freedom that only married women are allowed.

After a tragic marriage that stretched on for two decades, Peter is hesitant to marry again. But he needs an heir, or else his dastardly nephew, Lord William, will inherit everything he’s worked his entire life to build. But when he meets Mariah, sparks fly that neither of them expected. Their unlikely match stands a chance of giving each of them all the things they never realized they needed.

But trouble abounds when the mine that has provided Peter with his fortune is exhausted and the search for new veins of copper begins. On top of that, Lord William isn’t about to stand by and watch his inheritance disappear. His efforts to drive a wedge between Peter and Mariah cause havoc and heartbreak at Starcross Castle, which will take an act of heroic devotion to overcome as Peter sets out to prove that true love is ageless.

I’ve seen a lot of recommendations for Ice Planet Barbarians, so I downloaded and read the sample, thinking it would be silly fun. It was not.

CONTENT WARNING: In that short sample, there is a gang rape by the captors of one of the frightened women in the cargo hold. I don’t see how a book can come back from something like that. No thanks!

Gosling and Beastling made me chuckle.

  3. LML says:

Love antagonist described as “dastardly nephew”. Why does it make me think of Rocky and Bullwinkle?

I am mainlining the Ice Planet books through audio right now. My library has all of them, I just have to be patient.

The CW is real…I think it’s the 3rd or 4th book where the story is told from the POV of one of the survivors. I thought it was very well done. As the story moves along, the focus is not on that but how each character adjusts and survives. Time moves along in the series. The book I’ve just finished is about 2 years after the spaceship crash.

The best thing I’ve found is that each character is so, so different. Some I like more than others.

  5. Kit says:

@JenC same reason I stopped reading it tbh.
