  • Neon Gods

    Neon Gods by Katee Robert

Neon Gods by Katee Robert is $1.99! I don’t think this has been on sale before, but has a ton of buzz. This is close to the top of my TBR pile and I’ve heard so many good things. Are you a fan?

He was supposed to be a myth.
But from the moment I crossed the River Styx and fell under his dark spell…
    …he was, quite simply, mine.

Society darling Persephone Dimitriou plans to flee the ultra-modern city of Olympus and start over far from the backstabbing politics of the Thirteen Houses. But all that’s ripped away when her mother ambushes her with an engagement to Zeus, the dangerous power behind their glittering city’s dark facade.

With no options left, Persephone flees to the forbidden undercity and makes a devil’s bargain with a man she once believed a myth…a man who awakens her to a world she never knew existed.

Hades has spent his life in the shadows, and he has no intention of stepping into the light. But when he finds that Persephone can offer a little slice of the revenge he’s spent years craving, it’s all the excuse he needs to help her—for a price. Yet every breathless night spent tangled together has given Hades a taste for Persephone, and he’ll go to war with Olympus itself to keep her close…

A modern retelling of Hades and Persephone that’s as sinful as it is sweet.

  • The Mystery of Mrs. Christie

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie by Marie Benedict is $2.99! This is a mystery mixed with historical fiction based on real events in Agatha Christie’s life. Elyse gave this one a C:

The Mystery of Mrs. Christie isn’t a bad book by any means. It just lacked an element of suspense for me because I was already familiar with the case and I wasn’t in the mood to read about Archie Christie being an awful, entitled dude. I will admit that the ending is entirely satisfying though, if you have the fortitude to endure the Archie sections. I think readers unfamiliar with the case will ultimately enjoy it more.

The New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Only Woman in the Room returns with a thrilling reconstruction of one of the most notorious events in literary history: Agatha Christie’s mysterious 11-day disappearance in 1926.

In December 1926, Agatha Christie goes missing. Investigators find her empty car on the edge of a deep, gloomy pond, the only clues some tire tracks nearby and a fur coat left in the car—strange for a frigid night. Her World War I veteran husband and her daughter have no knowledge of her whereabouts, and England unleashes an unprecedented manhunt to find the up-and-coming mystery author. Eleven days later, she reappears, just as mysteriously as she disappeared, claiming amnesia and providing no explanations for her time away.

The puzzle of those missing eleven days has persisted. With her trademark historical fiction exploration into the shadows of the past, acclaimed author Marie Benedict brings us into the world of Agatha Christie, imagining why such a brilliant woman would find herself at the center of such murky historical mysteries.

What is real, and what is mystery? What role did her unfaithful husband play, and what was he not telling investigators?

Agatha Christie novels have withstood the test of time, due in no small part to Christie’s masterful storytelling and clever mind that may never be matched, but Agatha Christie’s untold history offers perhaps her greatest mystery of all.

Fans of The Secrets We KeptThe Lions of Fifth Avenue, and The Alice Network will enjoy this riveting saga of literary history, suspense, and love gone wrong.

  • Like Cats and Dogs

Like Cats and Dogs by Kate McMurray

Like Cats and Dogs by Kate McMurray is $1.99! This is an enemies to lovers romance with lots of scene-stealing pets. While some were really excited about the premise, other reviewers noted that the actually reading experience and the main characters were a little frustrating.

Can you fight like cats and dogs, and still be perfect for each other?

Things are getting ruff in this Brooklyn neighborhood when new veterinarian Caleb Fitch moves in next door to the Whitman Street Cat Cafe and gets on the wrong side of cafe owner Lauren Harlow. Lauren has a few things to teach the new vet on the block, and rescuing kittens is only the start…

  • The Radium Girls

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore

The Radium Girls by Kate Moore is $2.99! This nonfiction is part of today’s Kindle Daily Deals. This is mainly about the lives of women who worked in radium dial factories during WWI. I know this has been mentioned before on the site, though hasn’t been featured on sale.

The incredible true story of the women who fought America’s Undark danger

The Curies’ newly discovered element of radium makes gleaming headlines across the nation as the fresh face of beauty, and wonder drug of the medical community. From body lotion to tonic water, the popular new element shines bright in the otherwise dark years of the First World War.

Meanwhile, hundreds of girls toil amidst the glowing dust of the radium-dial factories. The glittering chemical covers their bodies from head to toe; they light up the night like industrious fireflies. With such a coveted job, these “shining girls” are the luckiest alive — until they begin to fall mysteriously ill.

But the factories that once offered golden opportunities are now ignoring all claims of the gruesome side effects, and the women’s cries of corruption. And as the fatal poison of the radium takes hold, the brave shining girls find themselves embroiled in one of the biggest scandals of America’s early 20th century, and in a groundbreaking battle for workers’ rights that will echo for centuries to come.

Written with a sparkling voice and breakneck pace, The Radium Girls fully illuminates the inspiring young women exposed to the “wonder” substance of radium, and their awe-inspiring strength in the face of almost impossible circumstances. Their courage and tenacity led to life-changing regulations, research into nuclear bombing, and ultimately saved hundreds of thousands of lives…

  1. Jill says:

Neon Gods was so good it put me in a Reading Slump from which I’m still recovering. I can’t wait for Electric Idol.

  2. Geralynn R Ross says:

I found Radium Girls deeply depressing! There was little good, or redemptive, to come out at the end of this true story.

  3. DiscoDollyDeb says:

A dispiriting number of books demonizing left-wing/liberal ideas and “explaining” why Trump is/was America’s only hope (ugh!) are KDD today. Good God, talk about piled higher and deeper. However, on the bright side, if you’re one of the six people who have yet to read Alexis Hall’s BOYFRIEND MATERIAL, it’s a $2.99 KDD today.

Re NEON GODS: if you enjoyed Katee Robert’s previous Wicked Villains series and her (not-yet-completed and apparently now on hiatus) Sabine Valley series—erotic romances set amid mythological/pop-culture mash-ups—you will enjoy NEON GODS and $1.99 is a great price for Robert’s books. Recommended.

  4. Pri says:

Also enjoyed Neon Gods a lot (and waiting for the next, too!). There’s also a delightful short on Robert’s web site-via newsletter, I think? Can’t quite remember- in which different Hades(es?) from her Wicked Villains series and this one meet each other. I enjoyed that quite a bit too.

  5. Darlynne says:

I found the Sourcebooks page on Amazon. Is there a specific way to find the sales mentioned above? TIA.

  6. Noseinabook says:

Penny Reid’s novella “Jusk Folking Around” is free at the moment. A nice way to try and see if her humour and Winston Brothers series is your style (contemporaries set in small-town Tennessee).

  7. FashionablyEvil says:

I decided to grab the Katee Robert in advance of the holidays (which may yet include travel, but will definitely include time off regardless.) I am amused to note that it’s currently the Amazon number one best seller under “Action and Adventure Erotica.” Who knew that was a thing?

  8. Jen says:

Is Neon Gods 1st person pov?

  9. Kira says:

I guess I’m in the the minority here… but I really didn’t like Neon Gods. Which bummed me out. I may have had unrealistic expectations because I love Lore Olympus and could have been comparing the two, which isn’t fair.

  10. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Jen: Yes. Alternating first-person POVs between heroine & hero.

  11. Floating Lush says:

@Kira, you are not alone. NEON GODS didn’t work for me. There wasn’t anything wrong with it, per se, it was just somehow…boring? I don’t know. I am happy so many people liked it, but I think for me personally it failed because the mythology aspects were inconsistently applied, and everything kind of fell apart when I thought about it logically for more than a minute. It also felt like two story ideas had been smooshed together–Greek mythology and mafia–but didn’t quite mesh. I was also disappointed because I really like one of the audiobook narrators a lot.

I may or may not pick up the second book from the library, but certainly won’t buy it.
