    Romancing the Past by

Romancing the Past is 99c! This is a historical romance anthology of 10 stories and notes it’s around 2100 pages. Roughly 210 per story, give or take. I believe some of these have been published on their own (if not all?), as I recognize Erin Satie’s The Lover’s Knot.

2100 pages of Swoony Historical Romance, featuring USA Today Bestselling author Darcy Burke. Tropes include: friends to lovers, enemies to lovers, fake relationship, marriage of convenience, and second chance.

A Duke is Never Enough – Darcy Burke
Sparks fly between a seductive rake and a self-declared spinster spitfire. When he’s suspected of murder, she may be his only hope for salvation—and love.

The Lover’s Knot – Erin Satie
When the new Duke of Clive realizes that the suicide note written by his predecessor is a forgery, he suspects his ex-fiancĂ©e of foul play. As he investigates, he can’t decide if he wants to bring her to justice or rekindle the great love of his life.

Dealing with the Viscount – Clair Brett
He seized a second chance to seduce the wife he thought dead . . . and claim the secret child he did not know was his.

What If I Still Loved You – Erica Taylor
After a chance meeting, Henry and Anna search the castle for a box of letters, but can this star-crossed pair find their way back to each other? Or will their second chance be lost to fate, again?

The Lost Lord – Carrie Lomax
A mysterious English nobleman, Lord Richard Northcote, has Miriam dreaming of adventures beyond her limited experiences. But is the promise in his kiss only a practiced lie?

An Earl For Ellen – Catherine Bilson
Orphaned and penniless, Ellen Bentley is astonished and relieved when the new Earl of Havers, her distant cousin, takes an interest in her welfare. She can’t help falling in love with Thomas, but how can she compete with the beautiful, polished Lady Louisa?

The Spy’s Fake Bride – Jackie Barbosa
To escape Napoleon’s France, British agent Thomas Pearce and the woman he’s been sent to rescue, Sabine Rousseau, must pretend to be amorous newlyweds. But it isn’t long before neither of them is pretending and every night, there’s only one bed.

Not Quite a Rogue – Tanya Wilde
A man on the edge of ruin… A lady who thirsts to be loved for more than her dowry… Temptation has never tasted this rich.

    Hotel Oriente – Jennifer Hallock
Cub reporter Della will do anything to get her story. When her breadcrumb trail of scandal leads straight to the kitchen of Moss’s floundering hotel, can he win Della’s heart and keep his name out of the headlines?

Once a Fallen Lady – Eve Pendle
Handsome schoolteacher Alfred Lowe’s disapproving gaze makes Lydia Taylor fear for her subterfuge of respectable widow and capable mother. But a seduction of kisses, books, and savory pies will tempt her to risk everything for love.

10 historical romances in one bargain, limited time only, anthology.

  • The Warlord

    The Warlord by Gena Showalter

The Warlord by Gena Showalter is $2.99! I believe this is the first book in a new series and Showalter hasn’t had a new adult series in a while. Also curious about this one, though Showalter does write some alpha heroes.

He plans to wed his virgin bride—and sacrifice her to his god. A duty he has never hesitated to to. Until now.

For centuries, Taliyah Skyhawk has prepared to become Harpy General, leader of the deadliest female army in existence. One of the requirements? Remain a virgin. But, for a chance to save her people, she must wed the fearless leader of the Astra Planeta, Alaroc Phaethon.

The time has come for Roc to sacrifice another virgin bride to his god. There has never been a woman alluring enough to tempt him from his path. No warrioress powerful enough to overcome his incredible strength. No enchantress desirable enough to make him burn beyond reason. Until now.

With the clock ticking, war between husband and wife ignites. Except Taliyah never expected the merciless king to challenge the future she once envisioned. She certainly never anticipated the thrill of their battles turning into games… The problem is, only one spouse can survive.

  • The Cat and the City

The Cat and the City by Nick Bradley

The Cat and the City by Nick Bradley is $1.99! I will fully admit that I know next to nothing about this book, except that it’s set in Tokyo and is a bunch of stories connected by a cat. Definitely may be of interest to the Bitchery and the reviews I’ve seen are favorable.

In Tokyo—one of the world’s largest megacities—a stray cat is wending her way through the back alleys. And, with each detour, she brushes up against the seemingly disparate lives of the city-dwellers, connecting them in unexpected ways. But the city is changing. As it does, it pushes her to the margins where she chances upon a series of apparent strangers—from a homeless man squatting in an abandoned hotel, to a shut-in hermit afraid to leave his house, to a convenience store worker searching for love. The cat orbits Tokyo’s denizens, drawing them ever closer.

In a series of spellbinding, interlocking narratives—with styles ranging from manga to footnotes—Nick Bradley has hewn a novel of interplay and estrangement; of survival and self-destruction; of the desire to belong and the need to escape. Formally inventive and slyly political, The Cat and The City is a lithe thrill-ride through the less-glimpsed streets of Tokyo.

  • Murder at Mallowan Hall

Murder at Mallowan Hall by Colleen Cambridge

Murder at Mallowan Hall by Colleen Cambridge is $1.99! Sarah mentioned this one in October’s Hide Your Wallet, so it’s a relatively recent release. It’s a historical house party mystery starring Agatha Christie’s housekeeper. Did any of you grab this one?

The first in an exciting new historical mystery series set in the home of Agatha Christie!

Colleen Cambridge’s charming and inventive new historical series introduces an unforgettable heroine in Phyllida Bright, fictional housekeeper for none other than famed mystery novelist Agatha Christie. When a dead body is found during a house party at the home of Agatha Christie and her husband Max Mallowan, it’s up to famous author’s head of household, Phyllida Bright, to investigate…

Tucked away among Devon’s rolling green hills, Mallowan Hall combines the best of English tradition with the modern conveniences of 1930. Housekeeper Phyllida Bright, as efficient as she is personable, manages the large household with an iron fist in her very elegant glove. In one respect, however, Mallowan Hall stands far apart from other picturesque country houses…

The manor is home to archaeologist Max Mallowan and his famous wife, Agatha Christie. Phyllida is both loyal to and protective of the crime writer, who is as much friend as employer. An aficionado of detective fiction, Phyllida has yet to find a gentleman in real life half as fascinating as Mrs. Agatha’s Belgian hero, Hercule Poirot. But though accustomed to murder and its methods as frequent topics of conversation, Phyllida is unprepared for the sight of a very real, very dead body on the library floor…

A former Army nurse, Phyllida reacts with practical common sense–and a great deal of curiosity. It soon becomes clear that the victim arrived at Mallowan Hall under false pretenses during a weekend party. Now, Phyllida not only has a houseful of demanding guests on her hands–along with a distracted, anxious staff–but hordes of reporters camping outside. When another dead body is discovered–this time, one of her housemaids–Phyllida decides to follow in M. Poirot’s footsteps to determine which of the Mallowans’ guests is the killer. With help from the village’s handsome physician, Dr. Bhatt, Mr. Dobble, the butler, along with other household staff, Phyllida assembles the clues. Yet, she is all too aware that the killer must still be close at hand and poised to strike again. And only Phyllida’s wits will prevent her own story from coming to an abrupt end…

Serena Bell’s MAKE ME WILDER, the first book in her Wilder Adventures series, is FREE in the Kindle Store today. I enjoyed this story of a family-run outdoor adventures company trying to transform itself as a couples retreat and destination wedding venue. Of course, one brother is resistant to the proposed changes and butts heads with the rebranding consultant the family has hired. Can you say antagonists-to-lovers? Bell is a wonderful writer and her books rarely go one sale—and a full-length freebie from her is almost unheard of, so snatch this up while you can. Highly recommended.

Roan Parrish’s THE REMAKING OF CORBIN WALE is also free today!

    Thanks @Erin – clickity click 🙂

Just noticed that Mia West’s INTO THE FIRE is $0.99 at amazon.ca – per the blurb: this complete series collection includes all 9 original novellas, plus 2 exclusive short stories – approx. 175,000 words total.

And a new release today with some bitchery favourite authors: FIRE OF THE FROST: A midwinter holiday fantasy romance anthology by Jeffe Kennedy, Grace Draven, Darynda Jones, and Amanda Bouchet at amazon.ca, $8.72 in Canadian Bucks so like $3 USD heheh

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

@Lisa L: INTO THE FIRE is an epic, immersive experience and one of my favorite reads of 2021 (“published in a prior year” category). It’s the story of a former soldier in the Roman army and the blacksmith from his home village who travel across Germania and Gaul after the fall of the Roman Empire and finally settle in Brittany. (The story also leads into West’s Sons of Britain series, her take on the Arthurian legend.) 99-cents is an amazingly good price. I recommend anyone who’s interested grab it now!

I second the rec for Into the Fire by Mia West. It’s an MM erotic romance, 9 novella series set over the 30+ year relationship. Each story takes place over a relatively short amount of time, but set years apart, giving us little snapshots of the long term relationship between Marcus Roman and Wolfram Smith.

I didn’t start to love the series until the 3rd story, when they joined a community and the stories started including their expanding chosen family (as well as a lot of graphic sex – it is erotic romance). Marc and Wolf are interesting characters and they (and their relationship) change in believable ways as they age. They’re in their 60s in the final story and it was nice to read that.

  7. cleo says:

I also recommend the Roan Parrish mentioned, with a couple caveats.

I had trouble getting into it because one of the MCs (Alex) was really overbearing at the beginning – but once he and Corbin got to know each other (and he stopped acting like a creepy stalker) and once I relaxed into the magical realism / fairytale quality of the story, I really enjoyed it.

  8. Qualisign says:

Just how many one-clicks can come out of a single “Books on sale” posting? In my case, waaaaaay too many. I’m already trying to decide how to give up my ebook TBR pile for Lent. Is is more Lent-ful (Lentish?) if your pile is beyond ridiculous or is ridiculously large good enough?

  9. LisaM says:

I found Mia West’s Marked by Fire is free on Amazon. I also bought the Into the Fire bundle – thanks for that alert, @Lisa L
