  • For the Wolf

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten

For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten is $2.99! This is a dark romantic fantasy that was featured in Hide Your Wallet and was highly anticipated by me and Aarya. I remember starting it but finding it a little slow.

The first daughter is for the Throne.
The second daughter is for the Wolf.

For fans of Uprooted and The Bear and the Nightingale comes a dark fantasy novel about a young woman who must be sacrificed to the legendary Wolf of the Wood to save her kingdom. But not all legends are true, and the Wolf isn’t the only danger lurking in the Wilderwood.

As the only Second Daughter born in centuries, Red has one purpose-to be sacrificed to the Wolf in the Wood in the hope he’ll return the world’s captured gods.

Red is almost relieved to go. Plagued by a dangerous power she can’t control, at least she knows that in the Wilderwood, she can’t hurt those she loves. Again.

But the legends lie. The Wolf is a man, not a monster. Her magic is a calling, not a curse. And if she doesn’t learn how to use it, the monsters the gods have become will swallow the Wilderwood-and her world-whole.

  • The Jasmine Throne

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri

The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri is $2.99! This is Suri’s latest series and many of us were big fans of her debut fantasy romance Empire of Sand. I’m hoping this has the same balance of fantasy and romance.

Author of Empire of Sand and Realm of Ash Tasha Suri’s The Jasmine Throne, beginning a new trilogy set in a world inspired by the history and epics of India, in which a captive princess and a maidservant in possession of forbidden magic become unlikely allies on a dark journey to save their empire from the princess’s traitor brother.

Imprisoned by her dictator brother, Malini spends her days in isolation in the Hirana: an ancient temple that was once the source of the powerful, magical deathless waters — but is now little more than a decaying ruin.

Priya is a maidservant, one among several who make the treacherous journey to the top of the Hirana every night to clean Malini’s chambers. She is happy to be an anonymous drudge, so long as it keeps anyone from guessing the dangerous secret she hides.

But when Malini accidentally bears witness to Priya’s true nature, their destinies become irrevocably tangled. One is a vengeful princess seeking to depose her brother from his throne. The other is a priestess seeking to find her family. Together, they will change the fate of an empire.

  • Lies and Lullabies

Lies and Lullabies by Sarina Bowen

Lies and Lullabies by Sarina Bowen is $2.49 at Amazon and isn’t being matched elsewhere yet. This is a contemporary romance with a surprise baby and a rock star. It’s also book one in the Hush Notes series, which is new to me as a Bowen fan.

Summer nights and star-crossed lovers! From USA Today bestselling author Sarina Bowen.

Once upon a time, he gave me a summer of friendship, followed by one perfect night. We shared a lot during our short time together. But he skipped a few crucial details.

I didn’t know he was a rock star.

I didn’t know his real name.

Neither of us knew I’d get pregnant.

And I sure never expected to see him again.

Five years later, his tour bus pulls up in Nest Lake, Maine. My little world is about to be shattered by loud music and the pounding of my own foolish heart.

  • For 100 Days

For 100 Days by Lara Adrian

For 100 Days by Lara Adrian is $2.49! This is a contemporary erotic romance and the first in a trilogy, so there MAY be some cliffhanger action going on, but I didn’t see anything about that in any reviews. Readers also recommend this book for fans of alpha heroes, so if that isn’t you bag, you may want to reconsider!

Struggling artist Avery Ross is barely scraping by. Bartending at a trendy New York City restaurant for an overbearing boss and two weeks away from losing her apartment to a condo developer, she’s desperate for a break. So when she’s offered a temporary housesitting job, she takes it.

Living at one of the poshest addresses in Manhattan is like entering a new world–one that catapults her into the orbit of billionaire Dominic Baine, the darkly handsome, arrogantly alpha resident of the building’s penthouse. What begins as a powerful attraction soon explodes into a white-hot passion neither can deny.

Yet as scorching as their need for each other is, Avery doesn’t expect Nick’s interest in her to last. Nor does she dare to dream that the desire she feels for this scarred, emotionally remote man could deepen into something real. For Avery has secrets of her own–and a past that could destroy her . . . and shatter everything she and Nick share.

FOR 100 DAYS is the first novel in a passionate new contemporary romance trilogy from New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Lara Adrian.

  1. I looooooooved The Jasmine Throne – the first epic fantasy I’ve truly loved in a long time! (And the slowburn f/f romance is SO good.)

  2. cleo says:

Everyone who loves or once loved but gave up on, epic fantasy should absolutely read The Jasmine Throne. It’s definitely one of the best books I’ve read this year, if not the best. It’s also very, very intense. Take the content warnings seriously.

I didn’t read her debut, but this definitely has a mix of fantasy and romance. Warning for romance readers – there’s no hea or even an hfn, but it is the beginning of a trilogy so I’m assuming / hoping there will be an hea at the end.

    Here’s my GR review:

The queer, feminist epic fantasy set in magical alt-India that I didn’t know I needed. It’s beautifully written, with lots of interesting things to say about power and faith and the hidden costs and perils of both – but it’s immersive and compelling, not at all pedantic.

At first, this reminded me why I used to love epic fantasy and also why I stopped reading it – So. Many. Characters. So. Much. Plot. Once I got into it however, I couldn’t put it down.

There’s a lot going on, with a several sub-plots and many POV characters – and a lot of political violence, resistance and intrigue. But at its heart, it’s the story of two messy, complicated queer women (an exiled princess and a maidservant with a secret) and their dangerous, high stakes relationship. The way it unfolds is just masterful.

It is intense and the violence can be graphic – here’s the author’s content warnings https://tashasuri.com/contentwarn/

    ——

And here’s my spoiler / warning for romance readers. There’s not really an hfn at the end of this – it ends with the main couple in love but separated / not together. It is the beginning of a trilogy so I’m hopeful that they will end up together.

  3. Darlynne says:

For crime novel readers, The Fine Art of Invisible Detection by Robert Goddard is .99 at Amazon US today. He doesn’t actually write crime novels by any strict definition, but his tales are sophisticated, mysterious, layered and nearly always surprising in their resolution. I haven’t read this book yet, but am a huge fan of his other contemporary and historical work.

  4. Leigh Kramer says:

For the Wolf and The Jasmine Throne are two of my favorites for this year!

  5. Kareni says:

I read Sarina Bowen’s Lies and Lullabies last year. I enjoyed it, but it doesn’t rank as one of my favorites by her.

  6. Ruth L says:

Thanks for reminding me I have Lies and Lullabies on audio and had only started it. I was going crazy trying to find it and finally found it on Chirp.
