The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon

The Dating Playbook by Farrah Rochon is $2.99! This is book two in The Boyfriend Project series, though it works fine on its own. The heroine is a personal trainer and the hero is an athlete who wants to get back into the NFL.

When a personal trainer agrees to fake date her client, all rules are out the window in this delightful romantic comedy from the USA Today bestselling author of The Boyfriend Project!

When it comes to personal training, Taylor Powell kicks serious butt. Unfortunately, her bills are piling up, rent is due, and the money situation is dire. Taylor needs more than the support of her new best friends, Samiah and London. She needs a miracle.

And Jamar Dixon might just be it. The oh-so-fine former footballer wants back into the NFL, and he wants Taylor to train him. There’s just one catch — no one can know what they’re doing. But when they’re accidentally outed as a couple, Taylor’s game plan is turned completely upside down. Is Jamar just playing to win . . . or is he playing for keeps?

  • Strange Practice

    Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw

Strange Practice by Vivian Shaw is $2.99 and a Kindle Daily Deal! I’ve been so curious about this one because the heroine is a “fast-talking doctor to the undead.” It sounds all sorts of awesome. I definitely bought this after the last time it was on sale. If you’ve read this one, let me know what you thought!

Meet Greta Helsing, fast-talking doctor to the undead. Keeping the supernatural community not-alive and well in London has been her family’s specialty for generations.

Greta Helsing inherited the family’s highly specialized, and highly peculiar, medical practice. In her consulting rooms, Dr. Helsing treats the undead for a host of ills – vocal strain in banshees, arthritis in barrow-wights, and entropy in mummies. Although barely making ends meet, this is just the quiet, supernatural-adjacent life Greta’s been groomed for since childhood.

Until a sect of murderous monks emerges, killing human and undead Londoners alike. As terror takes hold of the city, Greta must use her unusual skills to stop the cult if she hopes to save her practice, and her life.

  • Bonds of Trust

Bonds of Trust by Lynda Aicher

Bonds of Trust by Lynda Aicher is $1.99! This is book one in the BDSM romance Wicked Play series, and it has a 3.8-star average at GoodReads. It looks like most, if not all of the books are on sale at this price. Readers who enjoyed it particularly liked that the heroine is a divorced woman who is also over 40.

After ending her passionless marriage, Cali Reynolds is eager to live out her forbidden fantasies. Her first step is attending new members’ night at The Den, the most exclusive sex club in town. Perhaps here she can find a man who understands her desire to be dominated…

At first, Jake McCallister thinks Cali has come to his club for the wrong reasons. But when he discovers she is seeking fulfillment after years of denial, he’s intrigued—and takes it upon himself to initiate her into the pleasures she’s been missing.

Her first encounter with Jake is everything Cali has always craved, and more; she’s not prepared for the feelings he inspires in her. And Jake is just as surprised by his overwhelming attraction to Cali. As their play intensifies, so does their bond. Now, Jake doesn’t want anyone but Cali—but is he ready to officially claim her? And will she submit to being his forever?

Can The Dating Playbook be read as a standalone?

  2. Elle G says:

I loved Strange Practice! I listened to the audiobook from my library, and promptly got the other ones in the series. An interesting take on the mythology.

  3. Karen D says:

I just finished The Dating Playbook and really enjoyed it. I think it works as a standalone but I am not the best source as I also read The Boyfriend Project.

I’m buying Bonds of Trust with great trepidation. The last few BDSM romances recommended to me (Facebook romance readers group NOT here) had such problematic consent I left a zero star review on Amazon. Which is NOT my style. If I don’t like something I move on. However, the lack of consent was such I didn’t want other readers to think what transpired between the two adults was safe, sane, or consensual. It was obvious to me–an ex kinkster–the author has zero experience in this lifestyle. This would be fine but the least they could do is some research outside of 50 Shades, and ask a reputable member of their local kink community to read their manuscript before publishing. Rant off! All that said, I’m really looking forward to a voyeuristic afternoon with Jake and Cali. Thanks for including BDSM romance and queer romance and inspirational romance. This diversity is what makes this community so very special.

  6. Darlynne says:

Another recommendation for the Greta Helsing series. Read the first, bought the next two as audio books and have enjoyed every word and minute.

  7. I love the whole trilogy that started with Strange Practice! “Cozy horror” is such a counterintuitive term, but seriously: this is it. (I’m a horror wimp, but these books are actually super-comforting!)

  8. Lace says:

The Obsession, by Jesse Q. Sutanto (Dial A for Aunties), is a KDD today. It’s a YA in which a prep schooler tries to control the new girl through her dangerous secrets. While the tones aren’t a perfect match, I thought it could be a good read for people who like Victoria Helen Stone’s Jane Doe.

  9. Qualisign says:

Yet another “Strange Practice” aficionado (also a horror-wimp). Shaw’s take on, well, everything including an apocalypse is amazing thoughtful. If you start with Strange Practice, do read all three. They are so worth the time. “Cozy horror,” “alternative mythology,” or “deconstructed fantasy,” Shaw’s world building does make one think.

  10. DonnaMarie says:

I have only tow words to add to the STRANGE PRACTICE recs: baby ghoul.

  11. RhodeRed says:

Although I thought Strange Practice had a lot of great elements, overall I was upset by the sexism. It’s like one of those adventure films where there’s one lone woman main character and everyone else around including bad guys is male. And to make things worse, we are told she is who she is largely because her mom died young so her dad raised her. It all smells too much of token woman and not-like-other-girls.

Note: As I recall, she did have a colleague/friend who was another woman, but that person was offstage 99% of the time. Everyone on stage was male.

  12. Gwen says:

I found Strange Practice and the rest of the series much more melancholy in tone than I expected from the blurbs. And the last book ends up being a very doctor-in-the-trenches (or just behind the trenches? My metaphor needs work) Apocalypse book. Very serious. More depressing than I’d hoped.

  13. MsCellanie says:

If you are a member of ravelry, you can check out the patterns in Kawaii Crochet. To me, it looked like there were at least 30 clear patterns, and they are cute.

  14. Maeve says:

Strange Practice (and the two sequels) are on my comfort reading shelf! Greta is all about treating “monsters” as people, and there is a delightful slow-burn romance.

  15. May says:

Strange Practice is so much fun. I loved it. Definitely recommend.

  16. Suze in NE says:

For anyone interested in the romance level of Strange Practice and its sequels, I’d say it’s super-slow burn (to the point of almost non-existence until towards the very end of #1) but then picks up very nicely in #2 and #3. Bonus, #3 has a secondary romance in it that’s quite satisfying.

  17. Liz says:

My first description of Greta in Strange Practice wouldn’t be fast-talking. But I loved all three books.

  18. Sujata says:

Another vote for Strange Practice and its sequels. Really enjoyed all the books!
