  • The Roommate

    The Roommate by Rosie Danan

RECOMMENDED: The Roommate by Rosie Danan is $1.99! I liked this one and gave it a B+. Ellen also read the follow-up and gave that on a similar grade. I’m sure we’re both excited to see what’s next!

    House Rules:
    Do your own dishes
    Knock before entering the bathroom
Never look up your roommate online

The Wheatons are infamous among the east coast elite for their lack of impulse control, except for their daughter Clara. She’s the consummate socialite: over-achieving, well-mannered, predictable. But every Wheaton has their weakness. When Clara’s childhood crush invites her to move cross-country, the offer is too much to resist. Unfortunately, it’s also too good to be true.

After a bait-and-switch, Clara finds herself sharing a lease with a charming stranger. Josh might be a bit too perceptive—not to mention handsome—for comfort, but there’s a good chance he and Clara could have survived sharing a summer sublet if she hadn’t looked him up on the Internet…

Once she learns how Josh has made a name for himself, Clara realizes living with him might make her the Wheaton’s most scandalous story yet. His professional prowess inspires her to take tackling the stigma against female desire into her own hands. They may not agree on much, but Josh and Clara both believe women deserve better sex. What they decide to do about it will change both of their lives, and if they’re lucky, they’ll help everyone else get lucky too.

  • Hot and Badgered

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston

Hot and Badgered by Shelly Laurenston is $1.99! This is the first book in the Honey Badger Chronicles. The third book is also on sale. Sarah read this one and gave it a B grade:

Among my favorite things about Laurenston’s writing is how very affirming and inspiring and a whole lot of fun it is, because angry, fearless women make room for themselves, they get shit done, and they’re the heroines. More honey badgers, please.

It’s not every day that a beautiful naked woman falls out of the sky and lands face-first on grizzly shifter Berg Dunn’s hotel balcony. Definitely they don’t usually hop up and demand his best gun. Berg gives the lady a grizzly-sized t-shirt and his cell phone, too, just on style points. And then she’s gone, taking his XXXL heart with her. By the time he figures out she’s a honey badger shifter, it’s too late.

Honey badgers are survivors. Brutal, vicious, ill-tempered survivors. Or maybe Charlie Taylor-MacKilligan is just pissed that her useless father is trying to get them all killed again, and won’t even tell her how. Protecting her little sisters has always been her job, and she’s not about to let some pesky giant grizzly protection specialist with a network of every shifter in Manhattan get in her way. Wait. He’s trying to help? Why would he want to do that? He’s cute enough that she just might let him tag along—that is, if he can keep up . . .

  • The Last King

The Last King by Katee Robert

The Last King by Katee Robert is 99c! This is the first book in The Kings series. The man on a motorcycle gives me motorcycle club vibes. Can anyone confirm or deny that element in the book? Robert usually writes steamier contemporaries with alpha heroes and I know Elyse is a fan.

Ultra wealthy and super powerful, the King family is like royalty in Texas. But who will keep the throne? New York Times bestselling author Katee Robert introduces a red-hot new series.

THE MAN SHE HATES TO LOVE

Beckett King just inherited his father’s fortune, his company-and all his enemies. If he’s going to stay on top, he needs someone he can trust beside him. And though they’ve been rivals for years, there’s no one he trusts more than Samara Mallick.

The rebel. That’s how Samara has always thought of Beckett. And he’s absolutely living up to his unpredictable ways when he strides into her office and asks for help. She can’t help wondering if it’s a legit request or just a ploy to get her into bed. Not that she’d mind either one. After all, she likes to live on the edge too.

But soon the threats to the King empire are mounting, and the two find family secrets darker than they ever imagined and dangerous enough to get them both killed.

  • The Revelation of Light and Dark

The Revelation of Light and Dark by Sawyer Bennett

The Revelation of Light and Dark by Sawyer Bennett is FREE! This is book one in The Stone Veil Chronicles. Judging by the marketing copy and some reviews, this is a mix of urban fantasy that turns into a paranormal/fantasy romance, a la Ilona Andrews’ books. Have you read this one?

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.

But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels—things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.

No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear…

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

The Revelation of Light and Dark is book one of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

  1. Celia Marsh says:

I read The Roommate without any spoilers and MAN that’s a ride. (it’s also really good and I recommend it overall, but especially if you don’t do anything other than buy it based on this blurb and innocently start reading without knowing anything more about it.)

  2. Todd says:

The Laurenson is, well, what she does. It’s reliably enjoyable.

  3. footiepjs says:

I flipped through The Roommate at work before its release date and also (I think) before I had heard anything about it and then I immediately pre-ordered it. I really liked it! I didn’t love the next book as much but I look forward to more from Danan.

  4. FashionablyEvil says:

I liked THE ROOMMATE, but didn’t feel like the central conflict was really resolved.

Also, I am waiting for DiscoDollyDeb to weigh in on the Katee Robert because I’m sure she will have read it and have the inside scoop. 🙂

  5. Star says:

The Robert does not have any motorcycle clubs, just rival oil companies and some really complex (read: soap opera level messy) familial dynamics. I’m not really that fond of oil companies personally, but I enjoyed it anyway. The sequel is also pretty good; it has some mental health stuff that I thought was handled both pretty well and somewhat differently from usual.

  6. chacha1 says:

Oh goody. I’ve had ‘The Roommate’ on my wishlist for a while, waiting for a sale. 🙂
