  • Jade City

    Jade City by Fonda Lee

Jade City by Fonda Lee is $2.99! This adult fantasy novel incredibly violent, according to reviews. But readers loved the world building and threads of mythology weaved into the story. To be honest, the book sounds intense and awesome, and a great follow up if you just watched Shangi Chi.

JADE CITY is a gripping Godfather-esque saga of intergenerational blood feuds, vicious politics, magic, and kungfu.

The Kaul family is one of two crime syndicates that control the island of Kekon. It’s the only place in the world that produces rare magical jade, which grants those with the right training and heritage superhuman abilities.

The Green Bone clans of honorable jade-wearing warriors once protected the island from foreign invasion–but nowadays, in a bustling post-war metropolis full of fast cars and foreign money, Green Bone families like the Kauls are primarily involved in commerce, construction, and the everyday upkeep of the districts under their protection.

When the simmering tension between the Kauls and their greatest rivals erupts into open violence in the streets, the outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones and the future of Kekon itself.

  • Lost and Found Sisters

Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis

Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis is $2.99! Elyse reviewed this one and gave it a B-. She warns that with a Shalvis book, she thought she was getting a romance. Unfortunately, she described this more as women’s fiction with a small romantic subplot.

It made me laugh and it made me tear-up, but it wasn’t what I was expected when I picked it up.

From New York Times bestselling author Jill Shalvis comes her first women’s fiction novel—an unforgettable story of friendship, love, family, and sisterhood—perfect for fans of Colleen Hoover, Susan Mallery, and Kristan Higgins.

They say life can change in an instant…

After losing her sister in a devastating car accident, chef Quinn Weller is finally getting her life back on track. She appears to have it all: a loving family, a dream job in one of L.A.’s hottest eateries, and a gorgeous boyfriend dying to slip an engagement ring on her finger. So why does she feel so empty, like she’s looking for a missing piece she can’t find?

The answer comes when a lawyer tracks down Quinn and reveals a bombshell secret and a mysterious inheritance that only she can claim. This shocking revelation washes over Quinn like a tidal wave. Her whole life has been a lie.

On impulse, Quinn gives up her job, home, and boyfriend. She heads up the coast to the small hometown of Wildstone, California, which is just a few hours north, but feels worlds apart from Los Angeles. Though she doesn’t quite fit in right away, she can’t help but be drawn to the town’s simple pleasures…and the handsome, dark-haired stranger who offers friendship with no questions asked.

As Quinn settles into Wildstone, she discovers there’s another surprise in store for her. The inheritance isn’t a house or money, but rather something earthshattering, something that will make her question everything she thought she knew about herself, about her family. Now with a world of possibilities opening up to Quinn, she must decide if this new life is the one she was always meant to have—and the one that could finally give her the fulfillment she’s searched so long for.

  • Flight

    Flight by Laura Griffin

RECOMMENDED: Flight by Laura Griffin is $1.99! This is a romantic suspense and book two in a series, though I think it’s okay on its own. Lara wrote a Lightning Review for this one and gave it an A:

Flight offers readers a terrific romantic suspense with a world of competence, sexual tension, big emotions, and outstanding mystery. I enthusiastically recommend it.

When former forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads moves to the seaside town of Lost Beach, she’s decided to make her living as a wildlife photographer and put crime scenes behind her. But her plans are quickly upended when one morning, she comes across a couple sleeping in a canoe, entwined in an embrace. Looking closer, she realizes the man and woman aren’t asleep—they’ve been murdered.

Detective Joel Breda sets out to find answers–not only about the unidentified victims in the marshy death scene, but also about the aloof and beautiful photographer who seems to know more about his investigation than he does.

As they begin to unravel the motivation of a merciless serial killer, Miranda and Joel must race against the clock to make an arrest before the killer can find them first.

  • The Gilded Wolves

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi is $1.99! This is the first book in Chokshi’s latest series. Book two is also on sale and book three is out tomrorow! I love Chokshi’s writing and it seems this book only showcases her talents even more, but some mentioned getting impatient for things to happen.

Set in a darkly glamorous world, The Gilded Wolves is full of mystery, decadence, and dangerous but thrilling adventure.

Paris, 1889: The world is on the cusp of industry and power, and the Exposition Universelle has breathed new life into the streets and dredged up ancient secrets. In this city, no one keeps tabs on secrets better than treasure-hunter and wealthy hotelier, Séverin Montagnet-Alarie. But when the all-powerful society, the Order of Babel, seeks him out for help, Séverin is offered a treasure that he never imagined: his true inheritance.

To find the ancient artifact the Order seeks, Séverin will need help from a band of experts: An engineer with a debt to pay. A historian who can’t yet go home. A dancer with a sinister past. And a brother in all but blood, who might care too much.

Together, they’ll have to use their wits and knowledge to hunt the artifact through the dark and glittering heart of Paris. What they find might change the world, but only if they can stay alive.

  1. Ren Benton/Lena Brassard says:

WITCHES STEEPED IN GOLD by Ciannon Smart is $1.99. “This Jamaican-inspired fantasy debut about two enemy witches who must enter into a deadly alliance to take down a common enemy has the twisted cat-and-mouse of Killing Eve with the richly imagined fantasy world of Furyborn and Ember in the Ashes.”

  2. Katharina says:

SWORD DANCE by AJ DEMAS is FREE at amazon.DE right now.
“Sword Dance is the first book in the Sword Dance trilogy, an m/nb romance set in an imaginary ancient world, with murderous philosophy students, sex acts named after fruit, and love blossoming in the midst of mayhem.”

CW: one protagonist is an eunuch (abducted as a child), the other protagonist is a soldier and was tortured. Trauma/recovery is handled very sensitively and sensibly.
This is a wonderfully light and cheerful romance.
Book 3 of the trilogy will be out middle of October.

  3. MaryK says:

I reluctantly DNF’d The Gilded Wolves. I was enjoying it, but there were too many POVs and all the head hopping detracted from the main story line.

  4. hng23 says:

I really enjoyed FLIGHT. You don’t need to read HIDDEN (book one), but the protagonists are sisters, so there’s a little bit of backstory. MIDNIGHT DUNES -book three- comes out in May 2022.
Laura Griffin hasn’t disappointed me yet.

  5. Jeanne says:

The writing in THE GILDED WOLVES is masterful, but the story didn’t really do it for me. Also, the characters were very intriguing, but they felt way older than teenagers, especially with all they’ve apparently already accomplished, skills mastered etc. It’s a fantasy story, but I couldn’t really get past that. Didn’t put me off completely though, and I might read book 2 at some point, we’ll see.

  6. Elisa says:

Thanks for Flight! Laura Griffin was new to me, but I liked the review. I’ve now binged on Flight and Hidden and am about to start another. Like her writing!
