  • How to Catch a Queen

How to Catch a Queen by Alyssa Cole

How to Catch a Queen by Alyssa Cole is $1.99! This is the first book in Cole’s Runaway Royals spin-off series and released in December. I know a lot of us in Romancelandia were looking forward to this one. Have you read it yet?

An arranged marriage leads to unexpected desire, in the first book of Alyssa Cole’s Runaway Royals series…

When Shanti Mohapi weds the king of Njaza, her dream of becoming a queen finally comes true. But it’s nothing like she imagined. Shanti and her husband may share an immediate and powerful attraction, but her subjects see her as an outsider, and everything she was taught about being the perfect wife goes disastrously wrong.

A king must rule with an iron fist, and newly crowned King Sanyu was born perfectly fitted for the gauntlet, even if he wishes he weren’t. He agrees to take a wife as is required of him, though he doesn’t expect to actually fall in love. Even more vexing? His beguiling new queen seems to have the answers to his country’s problems—except no one will listen to her.

By day, they lead separate lives. By night, she wears the crown, and he bows to her demands in matters of politics and passion. When turmoil erupts in their kingdom and their marriage, Shanti goes on the run, and Sanyu must learn whether he has what it takes both to lead his people and to catch his queen.

  • Beauty Tempts the Beast

Beauty Tempts the Beast by Lorraine Heath

Beauty Tempts the Beast by Lorraine Heath is $1.99! This is part of the Sins for All Seasons historical romance series and we recently discussed this one on Cover Awe. It also features one of my favorite tropes: “seduction lessons” though I have a particular weakness for it being flipped, with the heroine being the teacher. If you have any recs for that, let me know below!

    She wants lessons in seduction

Althea Stanwick was a perfect lady destined to marry a wealthy lord, until betrayal left her family penniless. Though she’s lost friends, fortune, and respectability, Althea has gained a scandalous plan. If she can learn to seduce, she can obtain power over men and return to Society on her terms. She even has the perfect teacher in mind, a man whose sense of honor and dark good looks belie his nickname: Beast.

But desire like this can’t be taught

Benedict Trewlove may not know his parentage but he knows where he belongs—on the dark side of London, offering protection wherever it’s needed. Yet no woman has ever made such an outrageous request as this mysterious beauty. Althea is out of place amongst vice and sin, even if she offers a wicked temptation he can’t resist. But as the truth of his origin emerges at last, it will take a fierce, wild love to overcome their pasts.

  • Slow Surrender

    Slow Surrender by Cecilia Tan

Slow Surrender by Cecilia Tan is 99c! This is book one in the Struck by Lightning series. This book has a 3.9-star average, and some reviewers said they found it incredibly hot and thought it had some psychological thriller aspects, too. On Twitter, Corey Alexander previously recommended this one, “If you are a fan of Cinderella romances, orgasm control, semi-public play, or slow burn D/s, this book is for you.”

He pushes her sexual boundaries . . .

From the moment waitress Karina meets him in a New York bar, she knows James is different. Daring. Dominating. Though he hides his true identity from her, the mysterious, wealthy businessman anticipates her every desire and fulfills her secret fantasies. Awakened by his touch, Karina discovers a wild side she hadn’t known existed and nothing is off limits.

    She aches for more . . .

What begins as an erotic game soon escalates to a power play that blurs the line between pleasure and pain. Even as she capitulates to James’s sensual demands, Karina craves more. She wants his heart, his soul. She wants his love . . . and she’ll break all the rules to get it.

  • Jinn and Juice

Jinn and Juice by Nicole Peeler

Jinn and Juice by Nicole Peeler is $1.99! This is book in an urban fantasy series that Sarah mentioned in a previous Hide Your Wallet. I am obsessed with this cover and all of the purples. Any fans of this series in the Bitchery?

Cursed to be a jinni for a thousand years, Leila nears the end of her servitude—only to be bound once again against her will. Will she risk all to be human?

Born in ancient Persia, Leila turned to her house Jinni, Kouros, for help escaping an arranged marriage. Kouros did make it impossible for her to marry—by cursing Leila to live a thousand years as a Jinni herself.

If she can remain unBound, Leila’s curse will soon be over. But Ozan Sawyer, a Magi with the ability to See, Call, and Bind jinn has other plans.
Oz needs Leila to help him penetrate Pittsburgh’s steel-soaked magic, a juice potent but poisonous to supernatural creatures, in order to find a missing girl with her own mysterious connection to Kouros. Unfortunately for Leila, becoming Bound to Oz may risk more than just her chance to be human once more—it could risk her very soul…

I’m sure I’m not the first to remark on this, but Benedict Trewlove is cracking me up. I’m mentally hearing Peter Cook in The Princess Bride: “Wuv! Twu wuv!”

What the Parrot Saw by Darlene Marshall has a hero who’s forced to be out of his usual world and gets really, really schooled in love and other matters by the heroine. Features a parrot who think he’s the ship’s cat. But the rats fear him, so hey.

  10. DejaDrew says:

Aww YES! I’ve been wanting to read How to Catch a Queen, I love the Reluctant Royals series and my library doesn’t have that one.
