Virgin River Collection: Volume 2 by Robyn Carr

Virgin River Collection: Volume 2 by Robyn Carr is $3.99! This collection includes books five through seven in the Virgin River series, plus a novella. I believe we’ve featured the first collection on sale previously and this set is one step closer to collection completion.

Now available in a box set collection, return to Virgin River with these beloved stories from #1 New York Times bestselling author Robyn Carr.

    Second Chance Pass

Vanessa Rutledge’s new baby is helping heal her heart after the death of her husband. She longs to share this love with former Marine Paul Haggerty, her husband’s best friend, but he’s keeping his distance. The good folks of Virgin River might have to meddle to get these two to realize they both deserve a second chance.

    Temptation Ridge

Shelby McIntyre’s plans for her newfound freedom include finding Mr. Right—and everything she wants in a man is essentially the opposite of what she gets in rugged Luke Riordan. The jaded, battle-scared army pilot is all wrong for her, but sometimes what you want and what you need are two different things.

    Paradise Valley

Marine Corporal Rick Sudder is home early from Iraq, and must reconcile his past life in Virgin River with the man he is now. Can Liz, who never gave up on him, help him mend his broken body and shattered heart?

    Under the Christmas Tree

When the folks of Virgin River discover a box of adorable puppies under the town’s Christmas tree, they call on local vet Nathaniel Jensen for help. But it’s his budding romance with Annie McCarty that really has tongues—and tails—wagging!

Four moving stories of forgiveness, new beginnings, and the power of love to heal…

  • Serpent & Dove

Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin

PODCAST RECOMMENDED: Serpent & Dove by Shelby Mahurin is $2.99! This was recently recommended on our podcast episode with Sarah J. Maas and it definitely seems of interest to romance readers. It’s a YA fantasy with a marriage of convenience between a secret witch and a witch hunter.

For her sixteenth birthday, Louise le Blanc’s mother gave her three things: a sacrificial altar, a ritual knife, and a wicked scar.

Lou’s death would have ended the ancient war between the Church and witches, but Lou refuses to become a martyr. Forsaking her coven, she escapes to the gloomy city of Cesarine and hides her magic as a thief in the criminal underworld. But life in Cesarine has its own dangers. Huntsmen roam the city revered as holy men. Witches burn without trial. And the Archbishop, the Church’s austere patriarch, revels in violence.

As a huntsman, Reid Diggory lives by one verse: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.

He’s devoted his entire life to eradicating the occult and making his surrogate father, the Archbishop, proud. Finally given the chance to capture a witch of his own, Reid is devastated when a foul-mouthed thief thwarts him—and doubly devastated when she too disappears. Hell-bent on bringing her to justice, Reid vows she won’t escape again. But when Lou tricks him into public scandal trying to avoid capture, the two are forced into an impossible situation—marriage.

Marriage to a huntsman could provide real protection from the witches—if Lou can convince Reid she isn’t one herself. The secret proves difficult to keep as Lou begins practicing magic in secret within the heart of the Church, determined to prepare for her mother’s inevitable return. As time passes, however, Lou discovers yet another danger lurking: her own growing feelings for her husband. But Reid is still dangerous. He’s just as likely to tie her to the stake as defend her if he learns her true identity. With enemies closing in—and more than her own life at stake—Lou must decide who she can trust before it’s too late…and she’s not the only one with a secret.

  • Burn for Me

Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews

RECOMMENDED: Burn for Me by Ilona Andrews is $2.99! Burn for Me is the first book in the Hidden Legacy series, and is an urban fantasy/billionaire romance with magic and suspense. We had a great guest squee on the entire series and I can definitely confirm the books are amazing! The entire first Hidden Legacy trio is part of today’s deals.

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . .

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn’t sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she’s kidnapped by Connor “Mad” Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan’s after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she’s getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

  1. Laurel says:

If you have not read it yet, I strongly recommend “Burn for Me”. Everything Ilona Andrews writes is wonderful, and this series is one of their best. It is probably my most-read series. Really wonderful.

  2. Erika says:

A question about Burn For Me: Is the hero an Alphahole? This looks interesting, but I’ve had quite enough Alphas for a while, so I may have to skip it, if so.

  3. Laurel says:

@Erika, he is an alpha, but the heroine will not put up with his crap. She is a good match for him. The arc takes three books for them, and part of the plot is watching how they negotiate their relationship. Changes are made. Nevada is a wonderful heroine, and the secondary characters, mainly her family, are some of the best things about the book.

  4. ChrisK says:

Erika – he kind of comes off as an alphahole at first but I don’t think he actually is. When it comes down to it he supports Nevada and respects her power (and powers). Your mileage will vary but I tend to find Ilona Andrews hero’s alphas but decidedly in a good way.

  5. DiscoDollyDeb says:

Serena Bell’s SO CLOSE (the first book in her Tierney Bay series) is 99-cents in the Kindle Store right now. I highly recommend this story of a woman fighting to save the inn she manages from being sold to a developer. Bell’s books rarely go on sale, so snap this one up while you can. (Also, if you read SO CLOSE and Annika Martin’s RETURN BILLIONAIRE TO SENDER back-to-back, you’ll see how two very good writers can take essentially the same story—heroine fighting against the hero’s plans to sell a property she loves—and each create something completely different in tone and style.)

  6. Chemchik says:

I would say that Rohan’s definitely an alphhole, but he learns very quickly. Patronizing happens . . . Once. Making decisions for the heroine happens . . . Once. Well, ok, more than once, but only once for each type of decision. Once a boundary has been drawn, he’s pretty respectful of it. But he’ll rules-lawyer the crap out of any unclear boundaries for the sake of protecting what he wants to protect. As previous commenters have said, the heroine is clear and upfront about her boundaries, so they work together well.

  7. Chemchik says:

    *Rogan*. Dang it, autocorrect!

  8. Katie Lynn says:

Off The Ice by Avon Gale and Piper Vaughn is $1.99 right now. MM sports romance that I enjoyed when I read it maybe ~2 years ago and enjoyed enough to purchase the subsequent books.

Also, everyone absolutely need to purchase Burn for Me. I love this series so much, and while Rogan is absolutely an alpha hole, he does learn and ultimately respect Nevada’s choices and reasoning.

  9. SusanE says:

Fair as a Star by Mimi Matthews is $.99 at Amazon and B & N (I did not check any other sites).
I haven’t read it yet but I did like the other seven of her books that I have read.

  10. Annie Kate says:

Another enthusiastic rec for the whole Hidden Legacy series. Connor is an alpha hero, but in a thoughtful way that makes sense with the world building and backstory (the series has some very fascinating things to say about what serving in combat does to a person psychologically). Also, while Nevada is attracted to him from go, she refuses to get into any kind of a relationship with him until she knows him well enough to trust him. The trilogy format really lets their relationship have time to develop, which is what makes it work.

  11. Katie says:

Cold Hearted Rake by Lisa Kleypas is also 2.99.

Hidden Legacy is great. Nevada and her whole family are a delight. Rogan is probably the most alphahole-like in the first book, partly because their relationship arcs over the series, but also because this is first person from Nevada’s POV and she finds him much more threatening on first impression than after she spends time with him. I really don’t have a problem with him. If you have read any other Andrews books and are OK with Curran from the Kate Daniels series, then Rogan shouldn’t be a problem.

Serpent and Dove was good. I recommend stopping there, though. The sequel didn’t do much for me, and while some things felt slightly unfinished at the end of the first book, they feel even more up in the air at the end of the second and the whole exercise was unsatisfying.

  12. Jacki says:

@Erika: Obviously I’m in the minority, but I could not get into the Hidden Legacy series because the hero is a HUGE alph-hole. I never got past the fact that he kidnapped and tortured the heroine–straight-up tortured her–and then she ends up in a relationship with him. No. Just, no. The series is really popular, though, which I think is a credit to their writing more than anything. I have plenty of friends who love that series but have ditched other authors for using similar plot devices.

  13. Arijo says:

I just finished Duchess Deal by Tessa Dare this afternoon, I was very happy to find the Governess Game and the Wallflower Wager were also on sale today 🙂 If like me you’re late to the Dare party, it’s a good opportunity to build up your collection.

  14. wingednike says:

The Alpha-hole aspect is strongest in the first book. And she NEVER lets him forget about how they met.

  15. Lisa F says:

One of these days I need to get off my butt and actually read the Virgin River series, but Carr’s other women’s fiction has never really turned my crank, so I keep putting it off. SOMEDAY though.

  16. HL says:

@Lisa F – I kept seeing the Virgin River series a few years ago and decided to give them a try, but they really didn’t work for me. I did check out the Netflix adaptation though. Might be a good start. I found the show maintained the same tone as the writing style.
