  • Matzah Ball Surprise

Matzah Ball Surprise by Laura Brown

Matzah Ball Surprise by Laura Brown is 99c! This is a contemporary romance with a fake relationship. Sneezy had mixed feelings about this one and gave it a C:

A lot of what’s good about this book was really good, but the things that didn’t work for me downgraded my experience a lot.

This Passover is starting to feel like the ten plagues might be coming back to haunt them before the weekend is over…one hilarious misstep after the next.

Gaby Fineberg just wants to get through Passover Seder without her “well meaning” family playing matchmaker. She needs a date, just for one simple meal—that includes singing, the history of her forefathers, and not one bit of yeast. The hot guy at her gym would be perfect. He probably hates bread, anyway, with a body like that. But when she finally works up the nerve to ask him…he doesn’t hear a word she said.

Levi Miller is deaf and happily single. Initially, he doesn’t know why this beautiful woman is talking to him, but it’s clear she needs help—and suddenly so does he. In a very complicated situation, Levi finds a simple solution. Gaby will pretend to be his new girlfriend to bail him out, and he’ll return the favor. But he didn’t bargain for a family dinner quite like this one…

  • Riven

    Riven by Roan Parrish

Riven by Roan Parrish is 99c! This is the first book in the Riven series and is a contemporary m/m romance with rockstars. Readers say it’s high in angst and emotional turmoil, but note there was clearly some research done when it comes to music. It has a 4-star rating on Goodreads.

Theo Decker might be the lead singer of Riven, but he hates being a rock star. The paparazzi, the endless tours, being recognized everywhere he goes—it all makes him squirm. The only thing he doesn’t hate is the music. Feeling an audience’s energy as they lose themselves in Riven’s music is a rush unlike anything else . . . until he meets Caleb Blake Whitman. Caleb is rough and damaged, yet his fingers on his guitar are pure poetry. And his hands on Theo? They’re all he can think about. But Caleb’s no groupie—and one night with him won’t be enough.

Just when Caleb is accepting his new life as a loner, Theo Decker slinks into it and turns his world upside-down. Theo’s sexy and brilliant and addictively vulnerable, and all Caleb wants is another hit. And another. That’s how he knows Theo’s trouble. Caleb can’t even handle performing these days. How the hell is he going to survive an affair with a tabloid superstar? But after Caleb sees the man behind the rock star, he begins to wonder if Theo might be his chance at a future he thought he’d lost forever.

  • The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne

The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne by Madeline Hunter

The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne by Madeline Hunter is 99c! This is the first book in the Fairbourne Quartet and I’m getting an enemies to lovers vibe from the description. However, readers warn that while they expected some verbal sparring, the overall romance felt rather boring. Have you read this one?

A woman running a prestigious London auction house? Preposterous! But that is exactly what Emma Fairbourne intends to do when her father dies, leaving her the reins of this fabulous enterprise.  Of course, she is not addlepated enough to do this openly and scare away her wealthy collectors.  So she and her friend concoct a deception, hiring a handsome and charming front man who will do her bidding…

All would have proceeded smoothly–if it weren’t for the maddening interference of Darius, the arrogant Earl of Southwaite, who has been her father’s “silent partner” and now shares ownership of Fairbourne’s.  An earl, of course, has no interest in running an auction house–and Darius is certainly not interested in allowing the lovely Miss Fairbourne to run it either, her ludicrous scheme notwithstanding.  Clearly the business must be sold.

But the headstrong Emma is like no other lady he has ever encountered, refusing to follow his dictates. Holding his temper in check, Darius decides to attack on a different front.  There is another way to achieve her surrender, one far more pleasurable for both of them…

  • When Day Breaks

When Day Breaks by Maya Banks

When Day Breaks by Maya Banks is $1.99! This is part of the KGI series, which is romantic suspense, often with alpha heroes. This book does have stalking that is central to the plot, which may not be for some readers.

The Kelly Group International (KGI): A super-elite, top secret, family-run business. Qualifications: High intelligence, rock-hard body, military background. Mission: Hostage/kidnap victim recovery. Intelligence gathering. Handling jobs the U.S. government can’t…

Eden is said to be one of the most beautiful women in the world. Her face has graced countless magazines and her body has sold millions of dollars of clothing. But her fame and beauty has earned her more than she ever imagined. Evil is stalking her, determined to extinguish the ethereal beauty forever.

Swanson or “Swanny” as his teammates call him is always up for the next mission. He came back from Afghanistan wounded and scarred. Hardly the kind of man who even belongs in the same room with Eden. And yet there’s something about the quiet beauty that stirs his blood and makes him dream of the impossible. Because Beauty loving the Beast only happens in fairy tales and KGI doesn’t deal in fairy tales. Ever.

Not a romance by An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good by Helene Tursten is a Kindle Daily Deal for $1.99.

  2. Caro says:

I remember the book rant about The Surrender of Miss Fairbourne back in 2012. That I remember it after eight years is means either I found it extremely funny or it was very much a “Nope, not for me.” Skimming the rant again, I think it was both.

What’s one’s person’s DNF wallbanger is another person’s catnip, of course, but there seemed one of the comments to the rant described the book as feeling like “a very long set-up” for a series.

  3. Michelle says:

    Re: Maya Banks

KGI is all ex-military and often government contracts. There’s an awful lot of soldiers-and-law-enforcement-are-the-most-heroic-heroes that might be hard to take right now.

  4. Sue the Bookie says:

An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good was a selection in my mystery book club and everyone quite enjoyed it. Senior citizen got away with entirely justified murders!

  5. Darlynne says:

RIVEN was powerful and intense, along with everything said above. The push-pull struggle between the two MCs felt real, as did the work each had to do to be in a solid relationship. Recommended.

  6. Hope says:

@Michelle – also, tiny fragile heroines who think that giving dudes oral is the pinnacle of existence. And I say this as a fan, so, you know.

@Sue the Bookie – I read An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good and I loved it.

  7. chacha1 says:

Ooh, nabbed me some ‘Riven.’ Love that cover!

  8. Susan/DC says:

To be totally shallow, the cover of Riven is gorgeous. Love the field of black and the face that appears riven by the letters of the title (not read the book so can’t speak to what is between the covers, although it sounds as intense as the image on the front).

  9. cleo says:

    Riven is good and angsty.

CW for addiction. Caleb is in recovery but he struggles with it.
